Her Alien Protector: Voxeran Fated Mates #6 Page 19

  Thank goodness.

“Hey, Felicity.” Ivy walks up to join me, nudging my shoulder with hers. “Ready for another day of walking, walking, and more walking?”

I laugh at her teasing tone as we head toward the area where everyone is gathering for a quick breakfast before we head out. “I think I’d be more ready if I knew where we were going. Are we headed anywhere in particular?”

Ivy purses her lips, tilting her head to one side. “I don’t know. Honestly, I think it’s pretty much just ‘away from the village.’ Droth just wants to put space between us and anyone who might be hunting us to try to get the communicator.”

  “Right. That makes sense.”

I glance over to where the Voxeran prince is huddled in a small knot with a few of his most trusted warriors, and of course, Charlotte. I can’t see through their bodies, but if I could, I’m sure I’d see that they’re all gathered around the small black box that will allow us to communicate with people off-planet. They’ve been trying to get in touch with someone from Vox for days, but I know they’re worried about pinging the wrong person and letting Drokar get wind of what they have planned. So it’s a delicate operation.

“I hope they get through to someone soon,” Ivy says, cracking her neck a little as she twists it side to side. “I’m dying to get off this planet. Even if I don’t have a mate, I’d rather live on Vox than this damn place, where every other thing wants to kill you.” Her eyes glitter as she sticks her tongue out, waggling her eyes a little. “And besides, once we get to Vox, there will be so many more chances for a mate bond to spark, you know? We’ll probably meet a bunch of new Voxerans, and who knows when sparks might fly?”

I chuckle but nod indulgently. “Yeah, who knows?”

I’ve sort of been designated the unofficial counselor of the human contingent of our little group. The ladies come to me when they want to get something off their chest, are struggling to adapt to life on Nuthora, or any number of other things. I don’t always have the perfect advice, but I can at least give them a willing ear, someone to listen as they unburden themselves.

Among the survivors from the crash of the Foreigner II, there seem to be a segment of women who are desperate for the mate bond to happen for them, and another segment of women who are a lot more uncertain about it. They’re skeptical, even wary, of the intensity of the bond and the love that seems to come out of it.

Personally, I’m not quite certain which camp I fall into. I’m not as freaked out by it as some of the ladies are, but I’m also not one to sit around daydreaming about it, as Ivy and a few others do.

Maybe that’s because I’m pretty sure the bond isn’t going to happen for me—at least, not while we’re still on Nuthora. I’ve gotten to know the warriors we’ve been living with pretty well over the months since we arrived in the village, and although I like them all and can’t deny that they’re each incredibly attractive, I haven’t felt a particular spark with any of them.

And from the way I’ve heard the mated women describe the bond, it’s a whole hell of a lot more than a spark.

  It’s more like an inferno.

“Well, hopefully it’ll be a light day of travel,” Ivy says, drawing me out of my thoughts. “I think my callouses have callouses.”

I laugh again as we join a group of women who are yawning and blinking sleep from their eyes. But as I glance back over my shoulder to where Droth and the others are still gathered around the communicator, Ivy’s earlier words echo in my mind.

We’ll probably meet a bunch of new Voxerans…

I’ve gotten so used to the group of alien warriors who took us in that I haven’t really considered what other Voxerans might be like.

Will they be the same as the men we know? Or different somehow?

And when we finally meet them, will they accept us as their brethren have?

Her Alien Rebel, Felicity and Ren’s story, is next. He’s expecting to carry out a rescue mission, not to find his fated mate… but from the moment they meet, sparks fly between them.
