AUTHOR COMMENTS
I understand this story is not well written and that was ironically the point. I wanted the story to flow in and out like a wave of consciousness, for the reader to feel like they are somewhat between a dream and reality. The idea was to create a sense of confusion and leave the perception of the story to be rather unnerving. The story is erratic like the mind of the main character. The lack of detail was concurrent with the detail his mind provided. Of course with the lack of detail and mental skips, the story provides less information when it should provide more.
The idea for “Psyche” came to me while stationed at Enrique Soto Cano, Air Base, Honduras. When you’re in the military and you get an assignment to Central America, you are prescribed Malaria pills which you take before you arrive the country. Malaria pills have many side effects such as nausea, headaches, and even vivid dreams. The only issue I encountered was the vivid dreams. One night I had a dream almost exactly like the novel. My mind played tricks on me and caused me to suffer. I remember trying to wake up but when I did, it was just a new day within the same dream. When I finally woke up I started writing down everything I could remember. I played with the idea for a few years and then decided to see if I could actually get it published. Which led us to this point.
