Henry slammed shut the visor, crouched low in the saddle and hung on.

House Servant’s Directory, or, A Monitor for Private Families by Robert Roberts
Roberts was an African-American butler who worked for Christopher Gore, governor and senator from Massachusetts. His book was first published in 1827 by Munroe and Francis of Boston. The book proved quite popular, for it went into two more printings. According to the description on the cover, the book provides “Hints on the Arrangement and Performance of Servants’ Work” with rules for everything from setting tables to conducting “large and small parties” to cleaning “patent and common” lamps.
