Thinking about how tired I am, I yawn and press my face into him. “Can we go to bed?”
“Bed sounds like a good idea.” Shep helps me up from the sofa and then I’m in his arms as he strides down the hallway. He pauses when someone knocks on the door. “They’ll go away.”
He takes another step.
Another knock sounds on the door. This time louder.
I groan. “You need to put me down and get that.”
“I don’t want to,” Shep whines.
Bang. Bang.
He steadies me on my feet, then gets the door.
A very scared looking Tegan is standing on the other side.
“I’m sorry.” She pants. “I’m being followed and didn’t know what to do.”
Shep drags her into the house and closes the door, locking up behind her. “Go into the bathroom with Louisa. I’m calling Jared, then Travis.”
My eyes widen in surprise as Teagan stumbles toward me.
Shep turns to us. “Lock yourselves in there.”
“They’re gone,” Teagan mumbles, and lets out a sigh of relief. “At least I think they have.” She rushes to the window and stares out, not even hiding the fact she’s looking. “I don’t see them.”
“Jared’s on his way,” Shep says, then shoots off a message. “Travis probably will be soon.”
“That was scary,” Teagan says, her hands trembling as she pushes the hair from her face. “They followed me from the tavern.” She bites her lip. “Do you think they’re the ones who set the fire?”
Shep gives me a startled look before he covers his fear. He moves closer and wraps an arm around my shoulders. “Travis will be here—”
The screech of a truck braking hard is loud outside my small cottage. Seconds later Travis is shouting and trying to break the front door down. The moment Shep opens the door, Travis’s eyes are wild and searching until they land on Teagan. She runs into his arms. Tears hover in my eyes as I watch the two of them.
“Thank you,” Travis says. “I’ve got it from here.”
“You need to talk to Jared.”
“He’s following me back to the tavern. We’ll talk there.” He glances at me. “Glad to see you home.” He ushers his sister out, and they leave as quickly as they arrived.
“That was weird,” I state once we’re in our bedroom and I’m settled on the bed.
Shep frowns. “I hope whoever it was doesn’t come around here.”
“They won’t. It was obvious she came here for help when they followed her.”
“I’ll take your word for it.” He smiles. “I’m going to take a quick shower.”
Getting comfortable on my side, I hear the shower turn on and debate joining him. I love when our bodies are wet and slippery. If I didn’t have a bout of dizziness, then I would slip in there. I’m fine now that I’m lying down, and just as my eyes start to droop, I blink wide.
Shep is naked as the day he was born. His hands grip the top of the doorjamb and his thick penis pulses strongly, jutting out from his body. My eyes rove over him, but I find they won’t move away from the fantastic arousal pointing directly at me. I lick my lips and finally lift my gaze to his.
My breath catches at the heat staring back at me. His love is there in everything he does. In the way he touches me. In the way he can spend hours talking to me. But right now, the look he’s going for is primitive. And it’s working.
I swallow hard. “I’m no longer tired.” My eyes move lower and his flesh jerks and trembles with my attention on it.
“I’m going to come without moving if you keep looking at me like that,” he says.
My pulse thunders in my head with lust and need. My breasts swell, the tips rock hard peaks. My pussy feels like molten lava, burning up for his touch. Needing to be as naked as Shep, I quickly wiggle out of my dress and get rid of my underwear, then I lie back on the bed.
Shep wraps one of his hands around his cock and lazily strokes himself while licking his lips, his eyes caressing over my naked body.
Breathing heavily, he looks extremely wound up and ready to explode. When he does, I want him on me. I curl my finger, and Shep groans as he stalks my way.
“I don’t want to hurt you,” he whispers, standing at the side of the bed.
I sweep my legs over the side, capturing him between. I brush my lips over the head of his cock. He releases a full body shudder, his body hardening to the point of pain, I’m sure.
He clenches his jaw and groans. “Make me come on your breasts, Louisa,” he begs. “I want to watch my cum drip from your hard as fuck nipples.”
Precum leaks from his tip as I knock his hand away. I don’t tease him right now because I need him too much. Inhaling his scent, I open my mouth and slide down on him. The curse that rips from his mouth has me squirming on the bed. My arousal unbearable.
Shep hisses and tightening his body, thrusts into my mouth. I moan and suck on his flesh as he holds my head to him. Seconds later I take him further and find my head tugged backward as he grips himself and roars. His release squirts out in thick ropes over my chest. He gets his wish. Cum covers my breasts and drips from my nipples.
I try to squeeze my legs closed to ease the ache, but Shep is already on that. He pushes me to my back as he drops to his knees. Both my legs are lifted over his shoulders and then his mouth is on me. His tongue swipes, his teeth nibble, and as he pushes his tongue inside of me, his mouth consumes me.
I grip his hair and come on his mouth. I shudder and pulsate, goose bumps cover my skin as my nipples tingle, feeling rock hard.
Loosening my hold, I feel weak, but very much sated. Shep drops his forehead to my mound, and after a moment, his body vibrates with laughter.
“I’m never going to catch my breath if I stay down here.” He plants a kiss between my legs and then forces himself to his feet. “That was fucking epic, babe.” He heads into the bathroom and returns a few moments later with a washcloth. He cleans my chest and between my legs before he tosses the cloth back into the bathroom.
He helps me into bed, then he climbs in behind me and cuddles around me. “I love you,” he whispers. “I always have.” He nuzzles into my neck.
I take hold of the hand drawing lazy circles on my belly and kiss his fingers. “I love you too, Shephard Carter.”
Epilogue – Shep
A month has passed since I moved in with Louisa, and I still have to pinch myself so I know I’m not dreaming. I’ve wanted her with me for so long, it’s going to take a while before I accept that we no longer have to sneak around. I love her, and I’m so fucking happy that I’m sure my smile hasn’t fallen from my face once since she recovered from the accident.
Not that I wish her to be in pain, but right now with me constantly having a perfect view of her ass in short-shorts, I’m wishing she were home recuperating. She’s killing me every time she bends over to get more paint on the roller.
I never thought I’d call painting fun. Today it is. In fact, the past couple of days have been fun since we started painting inside the tavern. Teagan has been wearing very little, which hasn’t helped Blake and Emile keep their eyes off her. Travis, of course, notices every damn thing, and the glares going on between the four of them is going to blow at some point.
The girls are more than aware the cousins have their eyes on Teagan, so they tease her. I’m not sure anything will happen in that direction, but Louisa is busting a gut to not tell them to get on with it already.
Distracted by the goings-on in the room, it takes me a few minutes to realize Tia has moved next to me. She keeps glancing in my direction before returning to the section she’s painting. It was my section.
I lift a brow the next time she looks at me.
“I was wondering if you needed help at the coffeehouse?” she asks, and sighs. “Mom and Dad said as long as I support myself, I can stay in Blossom Creek. So, I need a job.”
I grin. “I’m afraid we don’t need help.”
Her face
drops.
“However,” I say, “I do believe the surgical center is looking for a receptionist.”
Her eyes widen. “Really? I can do that.” She pauses for a moment then hoofs it out of the tavern.
“Please tell me you haven’t given Tia a job?” Zeke asks.
I drop the roller on the tray and laugh. “No.”
“Thank God.”
“But I did tell her the surgical center has an opening.”
“Fuck me!” Zeke curses.
“She can’t be that bad.”
“I have a sexy, hot girlfriend, who I want when I want her,” Zeke grumbles.
Laughing, I shake my head. “Isn’t there an apartment available since Kennedy moved in with you?”
He shakes his head. “Blake and Emile took it over.”
“Shit. I forgot… Wait! The tenant who took over Vivien and Levi’s apartment is moving out.”
“Didn’t she move in the day Vivien and Levi moved into their house?” Zeke asks.
“She did. But she’s changed her mind. Can’t handle a small town.”
“Hmm,” Zeke mumbles, casting his eyes over to Kennedy. “She’ll need someone to share it with. It’s two bedrooms and more expensive.”
“I’d love to see her face when you tell her she’s moving out.”
“Who’s moving out?” Levi passes us both a beer only to receive a frown when Travis joins us. “I brought them in the cooler.”
“Good.” Travis grins and helps himself to one. “God, it goes down well when someone else brought it.”
“Shut up a minute,” Levi mutters. “Shep was going to tell me who’s moving out.”
I roll my eyes. “The woman who rented the apartment you had.”
“She’s only been in two weeks.” Levi shakes his head and wanders over to Vivien.
I glance around the tavern, it’s looking great. The walls are different shades of gray and blend well with the new chrome outfitting the bar area. Travis takes it all in while he guzzles down the cold beer. I don’t miss his eyes narrowing on Blake and Emile as they watch Teagan as she moves out of view.
I chuckle, and Travis turns his narrowed gaze on me. “They better keep their hands off my sister,” he growls.
I snort. “Good luck with that.”
An advantage of living in a small town is everyone helps each other out. Like these past couple of days. Without friends helping Travis and Teagan, this place wouldn’t be nearly finished. We’ve all pulled together, and it looks fucking awesome.
“I think”—Louisa brushes up close and personal—“that we need to go home and shower.” She sucks my earlobe and I’m instantly hard as rock.
Growling, I grab her ass and tug her closer. “We do need a shower.” I give one solid squeeze of her fabulous ass.
“Everyone has sex on the brain,” Travis grumbles. “Fuck!”
I glance in the direction he’s storming toward and chuckle. “We need to leave. I think there’s about to be a fistfight.”
I lift Louisa up and stumble when she wraps her legs around my waist and wiggles against my cock. “We need to get home quick,” she says.
“Let’s go.” I help her get her feet under her, and taking her hand, I lean forward and kiss her cheek. “I love you.”
She lifts her face and the smile she gives me is worth more than words in this moment.

I'm a center forward with the Boston Bay Vikings and consider myself to be a private and compassionate man. Although I enjoy a beer with friends and the occasional hookup, I like to be alone. My past isn't one of love or kindness; in fact, it's best left buried. I know I should avoid Hailee, but the harder I try, the more I find myself drawn to her.

I'm a nervous wreck after being kidnapped, shot, and buried alive. Sutton has stood by my side and protected me from the press, which is only interested in getting my story—an exclusive—from me. My father enjoys being in the spotlight and is flying in from New York to make sure I do what I'm told. Before he arrives however, Sutton kidnaps me from the hospital, and this time, I’m a willing participant.
