Brick Page 22

I wanted Brick to fall in love with me, I really did. But I wasn’t going to nag him or whine about it. Amy claims that the men of the club didn’t take on an Ol’ Lady without first knowing that it would be permanent. I had my doubts.

“Well, if it isn’t miss high and mighty.” The woman glared at me and said it with so much hate that I could feel it on my skin. This woman hated me and I didn’t even know her name.

I gave her the cold shoulder, if she didn’t learn her lesson the first, then I would have to put her in her place. Brick had warned me that I might have to do that. I took my tray of potato salad out to the long table that had been set up for the food. I saw Brick and smiled. He smiled back. I could hear Ms. little bitchy walk faster behind me. As I stopped to put the salad down she walked up to Brick and started to rub her hands down his chest. He tried to get her off of him but she was adamant. “Kourtney, I would let go of my brother if I were you.” Diesel told her.

“There is no sign saying he is taken.” She smiled back at him. That was the straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back. I walked right up to her and pulled her off of my man. “What the hell, bitch.” She yelled.

“Keep your hands off of what is mine.” I seethed at her. She rolled her eyes and I lost it. I broke her nose on accident, okay maybe it wasn’t an accident but it sure did feel good. Kourtney apparently didn’t get the memo, she took a swing at me and I laughed as she slipped and feel. I dragged her by the fake blonde hair to the door and yelled at her. “When you learn some respect you can back.” I slammed the door. Cheers erupted around the common room.

I made my way to Brick who was grinning like a cat. He pulled me into his arms as I buried my face in his chest. My little brother yelled out. “Y’all thought I was joking didn’t you!” his country accent taking over, apparently when he drinks, he goes country. The music started back up and the men started talking and eating again. I glanced a look at my man who was still grinning while he was talking with the men around him. His hand drifted down to my ass and stayed there.

After a few ours I started to feel tired and was ready to go home. I let Brick know that I was heading home, he insisted on a prospect tailing me and the kids to the cabin. I rolled my eyes after I got in the car. Yes, I drove the few hundred feet, I didn’t know what time the party was going to end. Having two tired kids never makes for a easy walk.

Once I got the kids settled in their room I sent a text to Brick to let him know that all was good.

  Made it home baby.

Immediately I got a text from him.

I will be there in an hour. Miss you already.

  Miss you too. Have fun.

I would rather have fun with you.

Well you better get home soon. I’m tired and ready for bed.

The dots at the bottom of the screen bounced for some time. I eyed the prospect named Red for a second. When we first met he was a total ass, but he has been better since he learned his lesson. I smiled thinking about how our first week of an actual relationship has been. Sure with the threat of the Grimm’s it has been a little stressful. But I have enjoyed playing house with Brick. I don’t know what will happen after the issue with the Grimm’s is over. But time will tell.

“Red you want to come in for a beer?” I asked the prospect.

“No, Ma’am I have strict orders to stay out here.” I was going to talk to Brick about that.

“Well okay then. Did you want a beer then?”

Red was shaking his head no, when my phone went off signaling that I had a new message.

I plan on playing with you, getting ready to leave now. See you a little bit, and no I am not drunk. Get a beer ready baby, your man is coming home.

I smiled at the text my man is coming home. I liked the sound of that. Just as I was about tell Red that brick was on his way home. When I saw a shadow run across the yard. I leaned forward to Red whispering to him. “Someone just ran across the yard.” I pulled back and he nodded his head. “Go inside.” He told me sternly. I made my inside the cabin and went straight for my children’s room. I pulled my phone out and called Brick.

“Hey babe. I am leaving right now.” I didn’t have time to listen to what he said.

“Babe, someone was running out in front of the cabin.” I said low. Hoping that he was true to his word and not drunk.

“Lock the door. Check the kids. Make sure the windows are locked.” He barked out. I heard him yelling at some of the others in the background. I checked both kids thankful that they were still in bed.

When I made it to the window I screamed. There was man staring at me from the other side of the window. It wasn’t Red, I had never seen him before.

“Babe, what is it?” Brick yelled.

“There is a man at the window.” I replied back to him. I could hear Brick yelling into the phone as I felt something hit the back of my head. My last thoughts were how much I loved Brick and I hoped like hell they left my kids alone.

  Chapter 26

  Brick

I was on my way home when I got Korey’s phone call. I heard the panic in her voice and at first I though she was worried about me. But after she half screamed at me that a man was in the window. I took off running calling over my shoulder to my brothers to follow me. My heart raced as I thought about her being hurt. That the kids might be in danger, that Korey could be in danger.

I didn’t take time to looks back to see if my brothers were following me. all I knew was that I had to get to my woman and make sure she was alright. I burst through the front door to find Red laying out in the living room. My heart was pounding out of my chest as I made my way to the kid’s room.

Sadie was sitting in the middle of the floor with Sean crying. My heart stopped; I didn’t see Korey anywhere. “Sadie, Babe.” I said. Sadie and Sean both turned to me. “Mama is gone.” Was all Sadie said.

Fuck my head was pounding, the blood was rushing through my ears I couldn’t hear anything. I checked the whole house and didn’t find Korey anywhere. I went back with the kids and slid down the wall. How did they get on our compound, and how the hell did they take my woman from right under my nose? The more I sat there the more pissed I was getting.

I got a call from Diesel while my mind was reeling. “What you got brother?” I barked into the phone.

“Your girl has her phone on her.” I sat up a little straighter.

  “Where are they headed.”

“Going south towards San Diego. I also got their plate numbers Brick. We will get her back. Maybe it is time to call in that favor now?” I looked around me and saw all of my officers were in the room with us. Blaze was sitting with Sadie and Sean. “I think you are right brother. Send me the plate numbers.”

“Got it, brother. Sent.” The call ended as I began to speak. “Its time to cash in on the favor from the Irish.” Nods went around the room.

I placed the call I didn’t think I would ever to call.

“Speak!” the Irish brogue laced voice came through.

  “Evan, it’s Brick I need a favor.”

  “Brick, what type of favor?”

  “An extraction.”

“Ah, child or adult?” I thought it was an odd question but I answered.

  “My Ol’ Lady.”

“Well, consider it done. I will need name, phone number and any other information you have.” I nodded my head as I pulled up the plate numbers and read them back to him, gave him Korey’s phone number and her name.

“They were headed to you last I heard.”

“Yes, I see that. We will get her. you want us to take the trash out?” Evan asked.

“If you could hang on to the trash we will take it out.”

“Not a problem. I understand completely. Who do you think is behind this?” Evan asked the question that made my blood boil again.

  “Grimm’s.”

“They made a very poor choice.” The line went dead.

I looked to my brothers and relayed what Evan had said.r />
“Now what Prez?” Blaze asks as he keeps his attention on the kids.

“We ride, to San Diego and wait for Evan to call. I need Diesel to stay behind to keep and eye on Korey’s phone. Stink and Amy stay with the kids. Jag need you to get with a prospect and snag a cage. The rest of us on bikes.” I tell my brothers. I am still worried sick for Korey, but right now I need to focus on getting my woman back safe.

I kneel in front of Sadie and Sean. “Sadie, Sean I will be back with your mom. I promise.” Sadie throws her arms around me. “I love you. Tell my mama I love her too.” Sadie says without tears. I can’t help but pull her and Sean in close and hug them up. “I will. Be back soon.” I tell them as I leave the cabin behind, now it is time to go hunting, the reaper is getting ready to strike again.

  Chapter 27

  Korey

I have no idea where I am all I know is that we are moving and fast. Panic tried to set in, but I keep pushing it back. my head is pounding, and panicking won’t help out my situation in the least. Brick asked me if I trusted him and I do, but I have no idea if he even knows I am missing yet. Surely, I am not that far from the compound. I try sitting up but find there is not enough room and my hands are tied together but my feet are free. Something good out of a bad situation. Moving hurts my head even more so I lay still as I wait for the pain and nausea to go away. Rolling over on my back I can see the little glow I the dark trunk release. I sigh, I am in a fucking trunk. How stupid can these people be. I reach up with my bound hands and grasp the release, but let go as I think more. We could be flying down the highway, there would no way I could get away. The last thing I want to be is a damsel in distress, but damnit all to hell that is exactly what I am right now.

I can hear muffled voices coming from somewhere. They are getting louder, are they arguing. This could be good for me. maybe they will be rational and pull over. I huff out a laugh. No way would they do that. I close my eyes to try and get a feel for the speed of the vehicle. I try to keep my mind awake but the lull of the vehicle I drift off.

Jerking awake because I can hear shooting and the car is swerving but slowing down. I hear motorcycles and I try to not get to excited. They could be the Grimm’s for all I know. But why would they be shooting at one another.

The car come to a stop and I make a quick decision. I yank on the trunk release and try to run as quick as I can. A arm snakes around my waist and pulls me back. I start screaming and fighting back. I hit whoever has me in the face with my head and it hurts, a hell of a lot. “Lassie, calm down please.” I hear a man with a thick Irish brogue tell me.

Standing in front of me is a tall man wearing a business suit holding his hands out in front of him in a placating matter. “I am friends with your Ol’ Man. Anthony. My name is Evan. Come let me help you.” I eye him suspiciously not moving.

“Prove it.” I tell him. I refuse to move from my spot. He smiles as he takes out his phone and makes a call.

  “Brick, got some good news.”

“Yes, yes I do, yes she wants to talk to you.”

This Evan hands me the phone. I look at him and at my hands. “Oh where are my manners. Andy cut her loose.” This Andy who also has red hair takes a knife out and cuts my ties. I smile at him and take the phone. “Brick?”

“Baby, your okay? Oh thank god I was so worried about you.” the sound of his voice soothes my nerves. I want to cry listening to him. I want his arms wrapped around me so damned bad.

  “I’m fine. Where are you?”

“We are almost there. Baby go with Evan. He will keep you safe okay?”

I eye Evan for a second, he may look harmless but there is an air of danger and respect that swirls around him.

“Yeah, okay. Please hurry babe.” Brick must know more about Evan that he tells me because he laughs at my reply.

“Alright baby, see you in a bit.”

“See you in a bit.” It was right there I wanted to tell him that I loved him, but I was worried that he might wreck with shock. Wouldn’t that be something big bad biker has a wreck because his Ol’ Lady tells him she loves him.

“Walk with me dear, don’t look behind you. It is quite disgusting.” If he would have never said a word, I would never have looked back. the sight before me is gruesome. It is a tangle of bodies and metal all over the road. I have no idea where they were taking me but I didn’t want to know. When I look back at Evan he is smiling. “Brick has his hands full with you little miss.” I can’t stop the laugh that escapes me.

“So Evan tell me, to what do I own the pleasure of being rescued by you?” I want to know why a business man like him would work with my man. Sue me.

“You are quite the curious little bunny aren’t you. Well my dear your man and I go way back. let’s just say we are business acquaintances that have a mutual interest and enemy.” He nods to where the tangled mess is. Well played Mr. Evan, well played I am still just as confused as ever.

I get into the limo, yes a fucking limo with Evan. I had never been in one before to say that I am surprised that the interior is just as lavish as the rest of the car. The black leather is so buttery soft against my hands as I rub it under my palms. Evan is sitting across from me as we watch one another. Evan pours me a glass of red wine and hands it me. “Thank you.” He smiles and pours himself a glass. This man screams money. Money and danger, I don’t know what the club has with this man, I just hope they stay on the right side of him.

“So, Korey, do tell me how did you meet my boy Brick?” I nearly choke on my sip of wine on the way he worded his sentence.

“Well, my brother is his VP of the club.” I start as I mindlessly rub my finger over the rim of the glass.

“Is that so.” I nod my head as Evan continues talking.

“Well, I can tell you that the Angels and Sinners and I have a good bond of sorts. You see ten years ago they helped me out once, in a situation much similar to yours.” He has my full attention now. “Yes, you see the Grimm’s took my little girl from me. So I called on Bear, and he was more than happy to help me out. I was grateful and I gave them a favor that they could call on for. And now here we are ten years later.” Oh no, Brick used this favor up on me. Shit what if they needed a bigger favor.

“Do not fret my child. I would gladly help out my acquaintances.” I didn’t think that he would do it free of charge. There is nothing free in this world. “Ah, here we are. It shouldn’t be much longer before your man retrieves you from my care. In the meantime, come in and have some dinner with my wife and I.” Who am I to tell this man no. As I get out I take in the modest yet expensive home in front of me. There are lights around the house and guards lining the yard. This place reminds me of a Mobster movies. I keep my head down as Evan leads me into the lavish house.

“Marta, my dear. Do we have enough for one more?” Evan calls out. An older woman comes out and greets Evan with a hug and kiss. “Of course, we do. Ah you must be the young woman that has Brick tied up. Good for you my dear.” She doesn’t have an accent, or red hair but dark blonde hair, she is about forty years old if I had to guess. “Come child, come join us tonight.”

“I would love to. Thank you for your hospitality.” Marta pulls me in for a hug. “Oh, Evan she makes me miss our baby girl. Have you spoken with her today?” I follow the two as they talk about their daughter to the large table that has food pilled on it. There is ham, potatoes, dinner rolls, corn and other vegetables. If I didn’t know what the date was today I would swear it was Thanksgiving.

“Wow, Marta you have really outdone yourself. It all looks so delicious.”

“Oh nonsense my dear. I love to cook.” Evan kisses her hand as he takes his seat at the table.

“Yes, My Marta loves to cook and bake. Some nights we have food that is quite uneatable.” Marta slaps at Evan’s arm. Watching these two you can tell that they have been married for a long time and love each other very much. The way that Evan reaches over and touches her face or kisses her hand before she ge
ts her glass. Their daughter must have been lucky to grow up in a house so full of love.

After the quite talkative dinner we shared I offered to help Marta clean up. She allowed me to help her. Seriously the woman is territorial over her kitchen. I was put to the task of drying the plates. “So tell me Korey. Have you found a love match?”

“Yes, ma’am I think I have.” I frown though thinking that we haven’t said anything to one another about love or deeper feelings for each other.

“Oh, no, what is the frown for?” Marta asks drying off her hands and coming to me.

“Well, I was just thinking. We haven’t said the words you know?” Marta smiles at me as she cups my face.

“Well honey sometimes words aren’t needed. Men, especially the men around here. They don’t express it with words. Look into their actions. What do they do? How do they do it? That will tell you all you need to know. Why if I waited for Evan to profess his undying love to me, I would still be waiting.” Marta laughs at her own joke. I on the other hand take her advice whole heartily. Marta gets serious for a minute before she continues. “But when a woman knows she loves her man, she needs to express it. You see men are simple creatures. We can read them, but us they cannot. So, we must tell them. Sometimes even yell it at them for them to get it.”

“Who do you need to yell at?” I hear Brick’s voice. I turn around and see him standing in the kitchen with my brother standing behind him. I run to Brick and jump into his arms. “Baby, god you had me worried.” I nod as tears fill my eyes I try to blink them back but one slips out. Brick wipes it away with the pad of thumb. “Don’t cry babe. Its over.” I nod as I kiss him, it isn’t a quick kiss either. I give him everything I have into the kiss. Trying to tell him without words that I love him. I missed him and I need him.
