  1. Acceptance

  Accept yourself. Love yourself. Be kind and gentle with yourself.

  Accept others for who they are and for the choices they’ve made, even if you have difficulty understanding their beliefs, motives or actions.

  When you accept yourself, you give yourself permission to be happy.

  “The greatest gift you can give to others

  is the gift of unconditional love and acceptance.”

  – Brian Tracy

  2. Action Steps:

  Accepting your circumstance does not mean inertia.

  You can accept who you are and where you are today – with the understanding that this is a temporary situation.

  You have the power within you to change your circumstances.

  You can make plans to grow, develop and improve.

  Accepting others causes your stress level to decrease.

  “The first step toward change is awareness.

  The second step is acceptance.”

  Nathaniel Branden

  3. Attitude

  Your Attitude Determines Your Altitude – Treat everyone in your path with respect, as you never know when you may need them!

  Be realistic, accept where you are at this time in your life and take the necessary steps to move forward….Acceptance does not mean standing still.

  Although you may not be able to immediately change your circumstances, you have control over how you react (by your attitude) to what happens to you.

  “A positive attitude is not a destination…

  It’s a way of life!”

  - Anonymous

  4. Action Steps

  Everything changes…even you….by changing your attitude you change your life.

  3. Accessories

  Accessories can change the look of any garment - that is accepted in the fashion world; it is important however that you acquire ‘good quality’ accessories and use them effectively.

  The BEST accessories are the ones that make a difference in the way you present yourself – because they directly affect the way others see you.

  Be conscious of the people with whom you hang out. These “people accessories” can make or break your reputation.

  Difference making accessories include:

  Camaraderie Character

  Generosity of Spirit Being a Good Sport

  3. Action Steps

  When choosing accessorizes remember that your height, body scale and the particular outfit must be taken into consideration.

  “Beauty of style and harmony and grace

  and good rhythm depend on simplicity.”

  — Plato

  4. Break Away

  Break away from anything that stands in the way of what you hope to accomplish in your life.

  Small people think small and they will crush your dreams, desires and hopes – if you let them.

  If you continuously do the same thing, or hang with the same people, there is no room for growth.

  “Associate with well-mannered persons

  and your manners will improve.

  Run around with decent folk and your

  decent instincts will be strengthened.”

  Stanley Walker

  6. Behavior

  Your behavior broadcasts your character and morals to everyone with whom you interact.

  To be believable your behavior must be congruent with the image you wish people to accept.

  Knowledge of the importance of civility or lack thereof drives one’s behavior.

  “Behavior is the mirror in which

  everyone shows their image.”

  - Johann Wolfgang van Goethe

  By changing your behavior you can change people’s attitudes towards you.

  "Insanity: doing the same thing over

  and over again and expecting

  different results."

  Albert Einstein

  8. Body Language

  We communicated though body language before we spoke.

  In the course of conversation, we send silent signals using facial expressions, such as raising eyebrows, rolling or narrowing our eyes nodding our heads etc., most times these are unconscious actions.

  In order to be congruent, we need to pay close attention to our body language as confirmed in a study conducted by Dr. Albert Mehrabian, Professor Emeritus of Psychology, UCLA - His 7%-38%-55% rule has been extensively quoted internationally.

  Here is a simple breakdown of Mehrabian rule; when we speak – 7% is attributed to what you say; 38% is attributed to how you say it and the remaining 55% is attributed to your nonverbal communication. Food for thought!

  “The most important thing in communication

  is hearing what isn’t said.”

  - Peter Drucker

  ~~~~~
  9. Action Steps
  To communicate effectively we must be aware of what our entire body is saying......
  ”What you do
  speaks so loud
  that I cannot
  hear what you say.”
  - Ralph Waldo Emerson
  10. Class
  Classy people exude an air of confidence and compassion.
  A classy person is self assured, without being cocky or overbearing.
  You can be classy even though you are not rich.
  Class comes naturally to those who care about the welfare of others; are disciplined, yet humble and generous in spirit.
  “You cannot teach a man anything,
  you can only help him
  to find it within himself.”
  - Galileo
  ~~~~~

  11. Action Steps

  Class is not inbred; it can be learned……

  “We only live once, but once is enough,

  if we do it right.

  Live your life with class, dignity and style,

  so that an exclamation rather than

  a question mark signifies it.

  Gary Ryan Blair

  ~~~~~
  12. Commitment
  Commitment – to promise, pledge or obligate yourself to something or someone.
  Commitment begins with the first small steps and laser focusing on the bigger vision.
  Commitment is important in every area of your life – you need to discipline yourself to act everyday on your goals and desires.
  By seeing the bigger picture – your end goal – clearly, you’ll be motivated toto remain committed.
  Put your commitment in writing, place it in an area that you can see and focus on it every day. Doing this will help to reinforce your commitment.
  “The difference between involvement and commitment
  is like ham and eggs.
  The chicken is involved; the pig is committed.”
  Martina Navratilova
  13. Action Steps
  “Don't ever give up.
  Don't ever give in.
  Don't ever stop trying.
  Don't ever sell out.
  And if you find yourself succumbing to one
  of the above for a brief moment,
  pick yourself up, brush yourself off,
  whisper a prayer, and start where you left off.
  But never, ever, ever give up.”
  ― Richelle E. Goodrich
  ~ Jack Penn
  16. Civility
  Act in a polite and refined manner.
  Show respect for the opinion of others, even though they may differ from our own.
  Use words and phrases that are non-confrontational or demeaning.
  Be courteous and kind by your actions and not just your words
  “A crucial measure of our success in life
  is the way we treat one another every day of our lives.”
  P.M. Forni
  ~~~~~

  17. Action Steps

  A true measure of civility is, knowing that what you do or say will not hurt or harm anyone.

  An important question to ask yourself, is - ‘will I like this to be done to or said about me?’

  There are consequences for all that you do – are you willing to pay the price of being uncivil?

  “Civility costs nothing, and buys everything.”

  Mary Wortley Montagu

  ~~~~~
  18. Courage
  Develop the skill of using The Tactic Test - before you listen to anything that may be damaging to someone else.
  Ask the messenger if the news he/she wants to share is Empowering and Uplifting?
  That tactic will stop gossipers in their tracks.
  Have the courage to follow your conviction, but the good sense to know when to change course.
  “Life shrinks or expands
  in proportion to one’s courage.”
  Anais Nin
  ~~~~~

  19. Action Steps

  "Courage doesn't always roar.

  Sometimes courage is the quiet voice

  at the end of the day saying,

  'I will try again tomorrow.'

  -- Mary Anne Radmacher

  ~~~~~
  20. Decision
  Decide that you will be successful and happy regardless of the many challenges that may be strewn along your path - and good things will find you.
  The bumps/challenges are only minor obstacles along the way. By conquering them you make yourself stronger.
  Make a decision and ACT on it….A decision is useless if it is not acted upon, and stretched to its fullest.
  A decision that is acted upon can be life altering.
  Be firm in your decision but know when to be flexible.<
  “Do not plant your dreams in the field
  of indecision, where nothing ever grows
  but the weeds of ‘what if.”
  Dodinsky
  ~~~~~

  21. Action Steps

  Begin today to make decisions – don’t be wishy washy. People will treat you differently if you can be decisive.

  Learn to stand by your decision, but be willing to change if/when you learn that there is a better way to do what you are doing.

  Some decisions are tougher than others….therefore give some thought before you jump to a conclusion. No one will think less of you, if you asked for time, because they will understand that you want to take this seriously – they also know that you are not a procrastinator.

  “The only way you can fail to reach your goal

  is to stop before you get there.”

  Dressing your age shows respect for yourself, your peers and your children.

  Being meticulous when caring for your garments, allows you to appear well groomed at all times.

  Learn about your body type and wear colors and styles that are complementary to your skin tone, and your body type.

  Always dress one level above your status; it says that you are ready for the higher position.

  “You cannot climb the ladder of

  Success dressed as a failure.”

  – Zig Ziglar

  ~~~~~
  23. Action Steps
  Buy more classic than trendy items, doing this lengthens the life of your wardrobe and saves you money.
  Purchase quality garments; rather than, a quantity of garments.
  Learning to build a capsule wardrobe allows you to spend less on clothing and allows you to easily and inexpensively update your look.
  Know the colors that complement your skin tone and wear those colors close to your face.
  Every three to six months take a ‘Wardrobe Audit’ – inspect your clothing for missing buttons, loose seams, stains and other signs of wear and tear. Do the necessary repairs or discard the garment.
