  “Yes, thank you for that. Despite myself,” Brad conceded.

  “And for the other minor incident,” said Jimmy quickly. “Well, what’s going on with dinner tonight?”

  “We made baked ziti,” said Wendell, who then took off, mumbling about the garlic bread in the oven.

  “Wow. Smells great,” Jimmy said.

  “What other minor incident?” asked Brad, hobbling behind the couple into the house.

  His friend shared a look with his fiancée, who averted her eyes.

  “Jimmy?” Brad growled.

  “It wasn’t my fault, first of all.” Jimmy smoothed the back of his hair and then played with his beard.

  “Jimmy!” Brad repeated with a louder voice.

  “Just that your mother called to see how your ankles were. You know, she was worried about you driving all that way home by yourself…”

  Brad inhaled sharply as the room started to spin. What did his best friend do this time?

  Jimmy covered his face with his hands and said, “Jesus, man, it’s 2014. I didn’t know you didn't tell your parents–”
