Cooper Page 31

by Lagomarsino, Giulia

“Yeah,” I said playfully. “It’s just a shame that it took you so long to make a move.”

“I was biding my time. I had to wait until you really wanted me before I swooped in and stole your heart.”

“Is that what you call that year that you avoided me like the plague?”

He shrugged lightly. “It was all part of my master plan. Draw you in.” He moved closer, sitting down beside me on the bed. His lips were just inches from me. “Make you fall in love with me.” His hand brushed lightly down my back. “Be a complete asshole to you and push you away.” His lips brushed down my neck. “Make it all up to you only to crush you and leave you devastated.”

“And how did that last part work into your plan?”

“Devastation has a way of cementing relationships. I know now what it’s like to feel like I’ve lost you forever. You know what it’s like to lose me. So, my brilliant plan worked.”

His hand slid around my neck and his lips brushed against my cheek and whispered over my lips.

“I’ll never fucking leave you ever again. I’ve seen what my life would be like without you, and it would utterly devastate me. I’ll never walk away again or make you feel like you’re nothing to me. Because you’re everything. You’re the woman I want guiding my daughter through the rest of her life. You’re the woman I want to marry and have kids with. And you’re the woman I want standing beside me until the end. You’re my sunshine.”

“Just promise you’ll never leave me again.”

“Never,” he swore right before his lips crashed down on mine. He kissed me with so much intensity that I felt like I was literally melting all around him. This was my Coop, the man that had finally let me in and trusted me with his heart and mind. I would never take that for granted again, and I would never break his trust. I was going to do everything I could for the rest of my life to hold onto this man.

I heard a click and pulled back, glancing over at Cap.

“Oh, don’t mind me. I was just taking some pics to add to the file.”

  “What file?” Coop asked.

Cap grinned wide. “The file of the fallen men of Reed Security.”
