Enid moved around the table, put her arms about Arnold’s neck and stared into his eyes. ‘I’ve got my eye on a new frock as well. When you take me out tomorrow to buy a new twin tub and set of kitchen stools, we can buy the frock as well. Can’t we?’

Arnold wrapped his arms around his wife’s waste and kissed her on the forehead. ‘Yes love. Of course we can.’

Enid snuggled into his chest. ‘It will be lovely to dance at the Winter Gardens and have a trip around Bridlington Bay in the Thornwick won’t it?’

She began taking off Arnold’s smoky boiler suite. ‘Come on Eros, its time you and I bathed. I put the immersion on before I went out. There’ll be plenty of hot water for our sylvan pool. See you up there.’

Arnold gazed at Enid as she slipped off her shoes, slid out of her stripy dress then wiggled through the sitting room. He pulled of his socks, shirt and underwear not bothering to undo buttons. He left his clothes in a heap on the kitchen floor. ‘Righto, Aphrodite, I’ll fetch a couple of bottles of stout.’
