The Cowboy's Marriage Mistake Page 18

by Jessie Gussman

Apparently she’d been corresponding with the gentleman who was now standing at the front of the church, about to become her husband.

Funny the things children didn’t know about their parents.

Cord couldn’t be happier for his mother.

“She’s beautiful,” Rosie whispered in his ear.

He brushed his lips against her temple. The paperwork for Joseph should arrive in the mail this week. Once it was signed and recorded, he’d be officially their child. Maybe that’s what was giving Rosie that beautiful glow.

Sure, she was happy that they’d donated some of the one billion dollars they’d inherited when they’d gotten married to construct a very nice library in Sweet Water where she still worked part time.

He’d told Rosie what he’d learned about Rosalin. He hadn’t wanted to, but after what happened at their wedding, he felt she needed to know. That might have worked out well, too, since Rosalin had been consumed with guilt once her twin had known. Clay had suggested she travel with Mac’s harvest crew for the summer, and she’d agreed.

So, things with Rosalin were looking up, too.

But, if Cord had to guess, he suspected that she was glowing because their family would be increasing – first with Joseph, then again early next year when their baby was due. They hadn’t told anyone yet, and Rosie glowed from the inside out.

Of course, his siblings, Lark and Wilder, were the two dark spots on an otherwise beautiful future.

Wilder was in Arkansas. Their sister, Charlie, had visited him. Apparently he had a child. Their mother had been overjoyed that he was okay, and apparently doing well. But she wanted to know her grandchild. No one knew the story behind the child, although Cord’s mother was determined to go see him for herself. Maybe she and Howard were going to Arkansas on their honeymoon.

Regardless, Cord had a feeling that was going to work out. He wouldn’t mind seeing Wilder again.

But Lark...that was a different story. She’d bought a man she barely knew off an unreputable website, married him and had all but disappeared.

Everyone in the family was worried about her.

His mother reached the front of the church and the music stopped.

Cord tightened his hold on Rosie as the preacher started to speak.

Life was never calm – there was always something making ripples and waves, but Cord had a feeling that everything was going to work out just fine. Eventually.

  Thanks so much for reading!!
