by Gabriel Rathweg

VEHICLE TYPE – Forward Assault Airship

  NAME – The Invincible

  DURABILITY – 805/805

  CLASS – Unique

UPGRADES – Fire Resistant, Earth Strength, Earth Durability, Water Resistance

WEIGHT – 750lbs (1500lbs with gear, provisions, and crew)

WEAPONS – 4 Swivel Guns (Modified Mounted Long Rifles)

  DIMENSIONS – 45’ length, 12’ beam, 4’ gunnel, 6 max crew – Gondola

  75ft by 50 ft – Balloon

This ship is built using Earth, Water, and Fire Magic giving it enhanced strength and lighter weight. It is powered by coal and uses magic as well to fuel the steam engine and propel and raise the craft. The vessel is less durable than normal wood and is subject to damage easily. The giant propeller and machine parts are infused with magical abilities and can operate without fuel by pouring one’s own magical energy into the engine.

The last thing I had wanted to make were personal weapons for my elite warriors and leaders. I hadn’t had time before with the impending invasions and all the other work that needed doing, but now I finally had the time to make the weapon I wanted. It was way past time for a big fucking revolver. I had always been a fan of the 357 Magnum and other similar large barrel handguns. Movies like Dirty Harry and games like Borderlands and Destiny drilled the advantage of stopping power into me from a young age. The thing about these big powerful revolvers was that you needed strength to hold them because of the recoil, but with my magically enhanced body it would be no issue. Event the elites would have the strength to aim and fire these bad boys.

That was how I ended the first week after the monster army battle, by lovingly crafting a brand-new type of revolver for my elites. And it was lovely, infused with all three magics and made with the same metals I had been crafting my cannon and other weapons with, but with these I added a little gold and silver. The result was a dark smoke grey steel shot through with streaks of the shiny precious metals, veins of gold and silver made the weapon practically glow. It was a thing of beauty, looking much like a larger Colt .45, and the dark brown polished wooden handles I had hand carved with the initials of each owner in them, gave the gun the perfect flair. I checked the guns information when I finished.

  TRI-GUN ELITE REVOLVER

  WEAPON TYPE – Revolver Handgun

  DURABILITY – 300/300

  CLASS – Ultra Rare

UPGRADES – Earth Strength, Water Resistance, Fire Resistance

  WEIGHT – 8lbs

  DIMENSIONS – 12” length with a 6” grip

This handgun is a beast. It fires the same round as the Long Rifle, which is comparable to a .50 BMG round. All three magics infused into the weapon give it extra durability and help cause the gun to never misfire. With the Earth and Water Magic infusions the weapon will fire underwater and even if clogged with sand.

Forge Bonus – Infused magic acts as power, any of the three kinds, Earth, Fire, or Water can activate.

I grinned as I read the next prompt.

  ABILITY UPGRADED…

  MAGE GUNSMITH (LEVEL – 2)

A combination of Magical Artist and Mage Builder. All your firearms that you create, even the most basic are all works of art. Your ability to sense the proper calibers and rifling when creating is tripled. The infusion of magical power into weapons is tripled. This skill will grow as you level and learn new abilities, plans, and skills.

When I finished perusing the information, I closed the window and got back to work, I still had quite a few of these babies to make.

By the beginning of the second week things had settled into a routine and I held a meeting to discuss our future plans and the state of things as they currently were. By the time I arrived in the citadel’s lower level, where we had built our war room, the basement floor, in the center of the building. During our latest round of construction improvements an underground cavern had been found twenty feet below the surface, directly under the Forge of Yin and Yang. It made complete sense to me as the three magical ley lines that converged in Thrudheim had made the forge so amazing there must have been some physical representation of that. And there was, it was a cavern much like the one found in the Fortress of the Earth.

Shadow Bear had been the one to find it and I still laughed remembering the excitement on his face when he came to tell everyone. Still, it was remarkable that the cavern here was so much like the other, but the addition of all the precious gems and metals was material jackpot. Then there was the monolith inside, which had been a surprise. It was the same interface as the Jicarilla one and helped us with planning and logistics. All the others had already arrived except for Dusk and Dawn. I had them in the Invincible patrolling and checking for any problems with the aircraft, a shakeout cruise if you will.

Greetings were exchanged but mostly everyone was looking at the large dark brown lacquered wooden box I was carrying. I placed it down on the center of the rock table everyone was sitting around with a loud thump. Then with a grin around the table and a flourish I opened the box’s lid. Ooh’s and Ah’s sounded out as the contents were revealed. Inside was a Tri-Gun Revolver for each person around the table, sitting on a bed of soft velvety hide. There were ten softly glowing weapons each with a warrior’s initials.

“Go ahead, there is one for everyone.” I said, gesturing to the box.

After all the weapons had been handed out and they all had sufficient time to fawn over them and thank me profusely, we all sat back down and got on with the business of the day. Reports from all the ironclad captains were the same, training was going well with the water and airships. The tribe’s folk were all on board, so to speak, and things were progressing as planned. Frigg had taken over heading up resource collection since Dusk and Dawn were de facto Airmen now, and our larders were all stocked up and continuing to grow. Everything was going as well as it could be and it was a little surprising, considering I felt like things had been nonstop since Coyote had brought me back in time.

I was quiet for a minute as I thought about the last few months. It had been a wild ride, but I wouldn’t have given it up for the world. This was the life I hadn’t realized I wanted even if it had begun with a real shitty situation. Well, I had it now and would do everything in my power to not lose it. The table had gone quiet as I was caught up in my inner thoughts and I finally noticed that they were all looking at me. With a smile and a shake of my head I shook off my musings and looked around the table at my companions. They were all staring at me with their full attention, it was time to relay our new plans. I accessed the megalith’s interface.

  WORLD MAP

I selected the World Map option and it appeared on the center of the table. With some mental suggestions the map changed until it formed a topographical representation of North America. I zoomed in until it showed just the regions between the Appalachians and Rockies, and the Caribbean, the Great Lakes, and Great Northern Forest. On the map were my three bases. Each marked by name and with a small icon of a town. With those was a new blood red dot, that glowed like a disease, representing an enemy base right on the mouth of the Mississippi, where modern day New Orleans would normally be located. Everyone’s eyes were on that pulsating red light.

“Yep, that red dot is the enemy. Coyote visited me after the battle and told me that the ones who brought The Great Suffering were there. That they had started an outpost to bring the battle up the Mississippi to us here at Thrudheim. Well, I for one am tired of having the fight brought to me and defense is getting old. I think it’s time for us to go on the offensive.” I said.

Cheers broke out and when they calmed down, I began again.

“Here’s what we’re going to do…” I said, laying out our plans, the enemy wouldn’t know what hit them.

EPILOGUE – WAVE OF MUTILATION – THE PIXIES

  LOUSIANNA, MOUTH
OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER

The pair of Choctaw warriors hid in the brush overlooking the mouth of the great river. For the last few days they had been watching the weird pale humans that had arrived in their giant canoes and were now swarming on the beaches. These men were not like the Choctaw. Not only were they lighter in color but their clothing and weapons were all odd. Even their canoes were like nothing the warriors had ever seen before.

These canoes were massive easily thirty feet high with long trees sticking up even higher into the sky. They had giant billowing hide coverings making them seem like they could fly. Originally, the scouts thought to go approach the men, but the way they had interacted with the Natchez tribe who had been on the beaches when they arrived. That notion quickly went away as all the tribe were either killed or taken as slaves. The invaders had used weapons that belched lightning and thunder. The Choctaw warriors were too scared to go any closer. There had been three warriors, but one had been sent back to inform the tribes elders.

From the time the warriors first observed the giant canoes, there had only been one, now there were over a dozen. They floated in the water and disgorged more men and materials by the day. Already, the men had farced the Natchez slaves to start cutting down and harvesting all the surrounding trees. They were now building a gigantic fort that ringed the entirety of the rivers exit, beaches, and surrounding land. The Choctaw scouts were in awe of the size of the things being constructed. Huge beasts of legend appeared, these massive animals were ridden by the invaders or used to help build their monstrous structures.

The days went by and the pair watched with growing dread. New terrifying things appeared each day. And more and more of the giant canoes came while the structures became bigger and more intimidating. After a week, the wooden walls were forty feet high and the whole river was blocked off by those huge canoes, which now there were over twenty of them, with more coming by the day. Along with the increased building and canoes, more tribes besides the Natchez could be seen. The invaders were sending out parties with those weapons that contained thunder and lightning, each party came back with new slaves. The hidden scouts saw Chitimacha, Caddo, Coushatta, Adai, Houma, and that was just the recent ones. Fear that they’d see Choctaw tribesmen soon was a constant fear in the scout’s minds.

After the second week of more of the same the scouts decided they’d leave the next morning. They had learned all they could without approaching the invaders. The two scouts used the rest of the day and packed up their small camp while keeping eyes on the invaders for anything new or unusual. Nothing different happened throughout the day and the night. The next morning the pair were about to leave when something new did happen. In the rivers mouth was the largest canoe yet. This one was two times the size of any of the others. There was so much metal on it that it shone like a giant jewel on the blue water below it. The huge white cloth floated like clouds above the canoe, they were so large and so many.

The scouts watched as dozens of smaller canoes disgorged from it and more and more men and beasts came to the invaders fort. That was it, they had seen all that they needed to, it was past time to go. The two looked at each other and nodded, then grabbed their gear and turned to leave then froze in place, fear gripping them more than ever in their lives. Standing in front of them were three of the meanest, nastiest, and vilest looking men they had ever seen. It took a moment to register all their features. They were dressed as tribesmen and had similar features but that was it. Boils, lesions, and tattoos covered them from head to toe. Their eyes glowed an evil red that bespoke unknown and dark powers. The largest one in the middle, bigger than either of the Choctaw scouts by over two feet, hefted a humungous hatchet in his hands and smiled at them.

“The Fallen…” One of the scouts breathed.

“That’s right, the Fallen. Now, where do you two little Choctaws think you’re going?” A giant said, in a menacing voice a wicked leer across his tattooed face.

  WARRIOR ACADEMY

  EPISODE 5

  CHAPTER 1

  TRACK 1 –

“All students head to the dormitories in an orderly…” Ichigo Miyamoto’s voice was drowned out as the NRE fleet chose that moment to fire their batteries.

Cannon fire ripped through the dawn air, overshadowing the din of the alarm’s klaxon cries. Tuki and I watched in growing horror, since my enhanced vision and senses let me see the dozens of fiery explosions blossomed before my eyes. I saw the shots before I heard them moments later, luckily for us the ships were all bow facing, so that limited the amount of shots coming our way. That would change when the shark like ships turned broadside to fire.

“Hiro!” Bron’s voice broke me from my thoughts. “We have to go!”

His words were punctuated by the now landing cannon shots. Which were bouncing off the school’s force shield, each bang sounding like a giant gong, banging in a staccato rhythm.

“He’s right boss, we have to go. It’s not safe here.” Tuki chimed in, echoing Bron’s sentiment.

Just then Headmaster Miyamoto’s voice amplified and sounded out over the racket of the cannonballs smashing into the shield. Each hit causing the invisible dome to flare translucent blue with every successive strike, looking like a giant strobing disco light, accentuating the teacher’s words.

“Faculty and students, Defense Plan Lock Down Alpha 1 is in effect! Initiate immediately, details are being sent to your AR2’s. This is not a drill, I repeat, this is not a drill!” The Headmaster called in a loud but calm voice.

My AR2 dinged and I spared a moment flicking my attention to the message.

DEFENSE PLAN LOCK DOWN ALPHA 1

  INITIATED…

ATTENTION ALL SCHOOLS FACULTY AND STUDENT BODY

ALL FACULTY MEMBERS FORM DEFENSIVE AND OFFENSIVE BATTERIES

ALL STUDENTS IN GRADE SOPHOMORE CLASS S FORM GUARD SQUADS AND FALLBACK TO POSITIONS A THROUGH D

ALL STUDENTS IN GRADE SOPHOMORE CLASS A AND BELOW, AND FRESHMAN CLASS S AND BELOW, FALL BACK TO PREDETERMINED SHELTER SECTIONS 1 THROUGH 3, FOLLOW THE ROUTES ON YOUR AR2’S

I closed the message just in time to watch as every member of the faculty burst out in different color lights and streaked towards their positions and the incoming enemies. Ms. Parker’s aur
a shined a crisscross of light blue air and dark red fire, Mr. Samson was the dark brown of the earth, while Mr. Joker’s was a fluctuating rainbow of colors that never settled on just one. My gaze trailed over the rest of the faculty, Mr. Austin the pure white of snow and ice, Ms. Smith was bright pink like glowing cotton candy, and Mr. Strange was an almost clear color that was just a haze in the air.

My fellow classmates and I cheered as the Faculty got into position. Ms. Smith, Mr. Strange, and Mr. Joker reinforced the barrier lending their magic, while the rest passed through the barrier and streaked towards the enemy brining the attack to them. In just a few seconds the three teachers were streaking through the sky, dodging the incoming cannonballs and closing in on the ships and ABBA’s. When the teachers were almost in range of the enemy things took a rapid turn for the worst.

Ninja Commandos, I don’t know what else you’d call someone wearing ninja garb that was patterned off green camouflage, appeared behind each faculty member. There were three for each teacher, nine in total, each wielding glowing weapons, which they held pointed at the teachers who seemed oblivious to their assailant’s presence, they were so focused on the shield and enemy in front of them. I looked closely at the weapons and my AR2 dinged, I glanced at the information in the corner of my eye.
