Rebel: House of Fae: A Dark Fae Paranormal Romance Page 26

by Rosemary A Johns

A twinge of regret shot through me.

The other Houses would be hunted through the woods and mountains. Most would be caught. But then, they'd known that when we'd passed on the message about today. Escape for them was far-fetched because they were the distraction. Yet this was their chance to rebel and flick off the professors and Dean who'd oppressed them. And it was still a chance.

From now on, they'd never stop trying.

The faes’ wings outstretched, before they glanced at me. I'd been an outcast only a week ago. The fae wouldn't even let me sleep with them at night. But now, I was their leader.

I grinned, and there wasn't even a hint of malevolence in it. "Get your fae asses out of here!"

My grin widened, as they transformed into their fae form. Like a cloud of white butterflies, they rose towards the sun.

At a sudden honking above, I squinted at the flock of swans, who flew between the fae: black danced between the white.

Apollo twisted to me. His eyes were bright. "My lord, let me choose to fly with my brothers and sisters."

"You never have to ask again."

Apollo transformed in a spray of glitter, beating his wings to rise into the sky. His long neck stretched out in joy, as the other shifters honked joyful greetings.

"We live for our brothers." When Radley touched his wing to mine, golden power sparked between our wings, until my magic wove through him as well.

The words had never held such meaning before. I longed to howl them.

Felix touched his wing to mine as well. "Brothers in wings."

When my power pulled him closer to me, he gasped.

"Fae Four." Beau brushed his wing across each of ours in turn.

  "Mine," I said, simply.

Then I glanced across at Laurel. Her dance was as mesmerizing as before, but her steps were clumsier. She was tired. The dance needed to end sometime, which meant that we'd reached the risky part.

I pulled back from my mates and then marched to Laurel. I dragged her into my arms.

At the same time, I hollered at Radley, Felix, and Beau, "Go!"

They transformed into white fae and a single black fae, fluttering around each other like blossoms.

Yet the peace of their escape above the barrier was broken by the Dean's fury, as he awoke from Laurel's spell. His chair smashed backward, as he threw himself up, cussing at the dazed ogres and dragging Wells up by his lapels.

Wells ignored the Dean, however, raising his hand to the sky, before letting it fall with an aching sadness.

In the confusion, I grabbed Laurel around the waist. She rested her head against my shoulder. Tremors ran through her, and her knees buckled. She'd given every shred of herself to save us. She still pressed a kiss to the base of my neck.

She'd done it. We'd done it. But although the swan shifters and fae were saved, Laurel and I were yet to escape.

Shining One, let me truly be able to fly...

I reached inside myself for my new power. It couldn't be the cruelest prank of all that I was a demigod, right? Intense sensations vibrated through me. My back burned with searing tendrils. Then I screamed as my wings burst out longer and larger than ever before. The feathers sizzled with golden magic.

  Let me fly…

Wells shouted out in shock and awe.

Laurel shivered. "Have I told you that you're the most beautiful creature I've ever seen?"

  I smiled. "Not today."

"Then let me add that you're also the best leader, lover, and friend." She held on tighter. "And I'll never let go."

I flapped my wings in a single powerful beat, rising above the stage.

I was flying....in the name of the forest...I was flying.

Down below, the Dean shoved professors and guards after fleeing warlocks and rampaging beserkers. The rebellion on the ground stopped him noticing the one in the skies.

I swooped higher, higher, and higher. I followed the wave of fae and swans. The Wicked Reform School soon became so small that it looked nothing but a child's play set.

In my arms, Laurel’s glamor fell away: her golden hair became red, her face heart shaped, and her eyes larger. She no longer needed to wear a mask. Our rebellion had freed her as well.

Then I laughed as loudly as I wanted because for the first time since I’d been handed over as a hostage, there was no one to control my emotions.

I was alive, loved, and a demigod in a fated bond to a princess. I wished only that Prince Lysander wasn't still trapped in Rebel Academy.

Yet finally, my fae had rebelled. Who decided whether that was wicked or not?

All that mattered was that we were no longer prisoners. I didn’t know what we’d do next. As long as I was with my bonded, I’d travel across realms because I was no longer under the shadow of death.

  I was free.

Rebel: House of Fae with its magical and sexy fae, swan shifters, and demigod who’s reborn on the Night of the Beltane is an idea that I’ve been sitting on for years, waiting for the perfect setting. I loved placing my Rebel Fae in the Wicked Reform School!

Forbidden romance, fated love, and both Court and Forest Fae were exciting to write. I fell in love with Lord Spring, especially his Wicked Bucket List…

I caught Willoughby’s mouth with mine, and he pressed me against the wall. I wrapped my legs around his waist.

“Strip, fae,” Loki’s son commanded, grasping Prince Lysander by the neck.

Lysander flushed, and his golden wings flapped. His fingers hesitated over the buttons of his pants. But he wouldn’t call the bluff first.

The werewolf’s lips brushed across mine, and I jolted. “May I caress you…here?”

I nodded, shuddering. He drew circles over my skin, and I heated like he was touching me inside, coiling the pleasure higher.

  Lower…please, touch me lower…

When I squirmed to encourage his fingers below the fabric of my ball gown, he chuckled but only continued his maddeningly slow teasing.

“Kiss her neck, prince,” the god ordered; his voice was like winding silk.

The incubus’ eyes sparkled. He was feeding from the order and my pleasure.

  My
crimson magic burst out, whilst I experienced each of the men’s pulsing, panting pleasure.

“Hold the witch’s hands above her head,” the god commanded. “She won’t be able to stay still for what comes next...”

The vampire’s fangs shot out, and I shuddered, as he grazed them along my neck.

“I love you, Violet.” Ash’s pupils were blown, and his gaze was desperate. “I know that you don’t want my protection.” He kissed my neck; his large hands stroked up my spine. “But just once…pretend. I’m not a hero but I could be—"

“I don’t need to pretend.” I caressed Ash’s bare chest, and his wings fluttered.

When my fingers moved towards the waistband of Ash’s jeans, however, his breath hitched.

“How can you touch me?” He rested his head on my shoulder. “When you know what I am?”

“You’re mine.” If Lucifer killed us tonight, at least we died claimed and together. “You’re family and the Brigadier. No one can take that away.”

I’d show Ash just how much I craved to touch.

I pushed open the button on his jeans, and although his breathing became harsh, he didn’t stop me this time.

I slid my hand lower again…
