He figured his scowl could probably etch glass, but everyone moved.
Tanaka was much lighter than Kim, but both got carried out of sight.
“What about you?” Dolf called from the shadows.
“We’ll be back in two days, or you’ll need to break us out of the local jail,” Rob said vaguely, climbing back into the truck and bringing the generators to power. He rolled the window down and looked back with a harsh smile. “Watch the news.”
Then he powered everything up and aimed it south.
Back across the water. Back to sneak up on the resort, where hopefully nobody had noticed a stolen truck.
“What was all that about?” Mac asked as they got airborne and began to accelerate.
“I’ve been on duty for two weeks,” Rob said simply. “I’d like a day or two off to relax, and maybe not get our cover blown when news reaches the resort.”
Mac scowled at him now, but he knew what she was about to say.
“So I was duty?” she snapped.
“You were the only part of this mission I liked, Mac,” Rob said. “But yeah, I’d like a chance to maybe just take you and Alicia to dinner and dancing, without having to maintain my cover constantly and worry about getting arrested.”
“We might still get arrested,” she replied, maybe a little mollified.
“Yeah, but now it will be Dolf’s problem, not ours,” he grinned. “Your favorite assassin would like a day off. Maybe lay by the pool and stare at you with naked lust instead of professional objectivity.”
He laughed out loud when Alicia swatted him on the shoulder.
“What about me?” she asked.
“You gonna be nude with us?” Rob asked.
Mac laughed when Alicia blushed and stammered.
Yeah, he needed a day off. There were still bad men and women out there threatening Lincolnshire.
But that was okay. The Service had Handsome Rob, Assassin to do the dirty work.
Even if that meant hardly ever killing people.
