Outbreak Page 32

The fight was hard and gruelling, particularly because of their vast numbers. Also taking into account their improved strength and robustness, leaving most of the group exhausted. But eventually to fight came to an end when all the infected were dead, and the farm was littered with the corpses of the infected. Max suddenly felt his whole body calm, but where was Marie?

"Marie!" he called his voice halfway back to normal.

"I'm okay," she called coming to him.

"Is everyone okay?" he called bringing them all together.

They all gathered around as he checked every one of them was present, and amazingly everyone of them was still alive. Even Dinah and even though she was of no interest to the infected, she herself had fought hard as well putting herself at risk.

"Did anyone get bitten," he asked with some trepidation.

Everyone suddenly began checking themselves and others with concern etched on tired faces, everyone replying back that they were okay.

All except for one, "Oh fuck I do appear to have been bitten I'm afraid," Jenkins said resignedly.

The whole group were in shock and some began to break down, while others fell silent. But Jones reacted in anger, first blaming himself for not looking out for him enough. Then let his temper out on the dead at his feet kicking their lifeless bodies.

"YOU FUCKING BASTARDS I'LL KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU!" He vowed.

"It's okay Jones it wasn't your fault old chap," Jenkins soothed.

With that, a tear rolled down Jones' face as the man finally broke, along with everybody else.

  End of part one.
