The Legend of The “Grau Kiefer” Inn Page 6

gestures he made as he gave his confession speech:

They weren’t supposed to come out… They were supposed to stay in the field until the bank or someone else would have taken it and found their skeletons years later. Yes, I knew what the Apinis had done with their share. The man told me while we were drinking in a bar, but I didn’t care about that. My passion and reason for existence transcends land, money and even this earth. God is so much greater than all of that.

But what do I see, when I walk this filthy, wicked earth, the most amazing of God’s creations? The infidels, the indecent, the whores! Men and women without principles, without sense of duty and responsibility to God, to one another! Today people ridicule God and His values, spit on them and then pee on them laughing! You know I’m right. Just look at the vile and dull things we see around us. Girls getting drunk and shagging the first guy they see. I know that because, despite my efforts, my two girls are also exposed to this Godless world and I have been losing this battle severely. One of them, Līna, conspired with my wife behind my back and had an abortion. Imagine that! As if going to a hairdresser! She is still in high school! Of course, it is the result of the ill and corrupted mind-set our society develops as more and more people refuse our Lord and his teachings.

However, I urge you to imagine a world where legendary mysteries appear to be real! Where the haunting myths and tales begin to seem true! That’s what I set out to create, when I found out that the old ‘Grau Kiefer’ land might someday be taken by a bank, who would invest in its development! What would happen, when they would get rid of the hogweed and find skeletons of a family, who seemingly disappeared more than seventy years ago? How could that be explained? Maybe people would finally ponder that there is more to existence than the vile, spoiled, impersonal and disrespectful earth. And, perhaps, dedicate their lives to serve our Lord like people used to.

Yes, God condemns taking other’s life. I was scared at the beginning. But, I felt his presence and became certain he understands that the situation is dire, and thus a few sacrifices to save many, is something He would accept.

The police reports also stated that Bergs was forced to move his last victims in broad daylight because he felt that there was a possibility that the police might check up on the nearby garages to assess the fire damage.

However, there was another statement, which barely got in the news. Even though it was merely three sentences long, I think it too deserves proper acknowledgement, for it displays another human characteristic that is truly remarkable.

I suppose one never gets to really know what goes on in another person’s head, no matter how long you’ve known each other and how close you seem. I’m ashamed and devastated, but I would also like to state that my family and I feel equally responsible because of our ignorance. So we have already made contact with the affected families and we will seek ways how to help them in any way we can.

It was a statement made by Uldis’ daughter Līna.
