PARTNER!!!” clenching his fists, before storming down the hall.

Jade licked the side of her lip and tasted blood. Jake looked back and she was standing there, watching him. She turned her back toward him.

Jake hollered “Wait a minute!” while Jade headed up the hall.

“What happened? You changed your mind?!”

He approached her and stood in her face, eyeing the cut on her lip.

Jake replied, impatiently “You have something that belongs to my partner.” stretching his arm out and reaching for the machete.

He, as well as Jade, grabbed the machete, playing Tug-Of-War. She kicked him in his chest, brushing him back some. Growling appeared and something was charging at Jake. Jade stepped in front of him and took the hit. She smacked the floor, after hitting the wall, in the process. The mysterious handgun slid near Jake’s feet. The mutated human knocked him into the wall, before he could grab the gun. The beast approached Jade. It lifted her up and slammed her against the wall, pinning her against it.

Jake yelled, loudly “LET HER GO!!!” before firing at the beast.

The beast’s grip tightened on Jade’s neck. Jake charged at the mutated human and jumped on its back.

He yelled “TAKE THIS!!!” hammer-fisting on the mutated human’s head.

The beast threw Jade on the floor. It fell backward, onto the floor, crushing Jake beneath it. He screamed in pain, from his ribs being shattered, instantly. The mutated human rolled over and started punching Jake, repeatedly. Jade sneaked behind it and lunged the machete into its temple. Swinging, erratically, the beast punched Jade, sending her into the wall. She watched it charge down the hall and barrel through the wall.

Jade asked “Are you okay?” slowly crawling over to the badly injured Jake.

She leaned over him. He gargled and coughed up blood, causing it to splatter on his face. His eyes were halfway opened. Jade felt for his pulse, but could barely feel it.

Jake stuttered “Wh-why did you do th-that?” his voiced, pained, and fading.

“You have to avenge your partner’s death, Jake.”

He struggled to sit up. He leaned against the against, continuing to cough up blood.

Jade insisted “You need to get those injuries taken care of.” before pulling a syringe out of her hip pouch.

She stuck it in his arm and injected the blue substance into him.

“That should hold you off, for a bit.”

Jake could feel his energy and strength returning, ever so quickly.

“What did you inject into me?”

Jade replied, calmly “A substance for being badly injured.” throwing the syringe on the floor.

Noticing the slash marks around Jade’s ribs, he said, worriedly “You’re injured.”

Jade muttered “I’ll be fine.” before collapsing to the floor.

Jake shrieked “Jade!” while running over to her.

  “Ja-Jake…”

He whispered “Stay with me.” shaking her, repeatedly, and steadily.

Jake looked behind him and something was standing there, growling at him. Jade staggered to her feet.

  “You’re hurt, Jade.” Jake murmured.

  “I’ll be fine. Trust me.”

Jake said “Alright.” before turning to face the mutated human.

Jade looked at her wound and watched it heal. She grabbed the mysterious handgun from Jake and loaded it. The mutated human charged at Jake, like a rabid beast. Jade shoved him out of the way. She jumped on the beast’s back and lunged a dagger in its left eye. It ran down the hall, until it collapsed to the floor. She sat on top of it and ripped the dagger, and its eyeball, out of the socket.

  “I think I got it.”

  “Are you alright?”

Jade replied “I’m fine.” while standing up and walking toward him.

Jake kept his eyes on her. He felt that there was something strange about her. He tightened his grip on the assault handgun, after noticing the slash marks on her ribs were mysteriously gone.

“Those slash marks, on your ribs… They’re gone…”

Jade laughed, suspiciously “Slash marks? They were merely a scratch.”

“What the Hell is going on here?!”

Jade squawked “You wouldn’t understand!” as she headed up the hall.

Jake watched her cut around the corner and disappear, out of sight. He readied his weapon and headed up the hall. He peered into the hole in the wall, but it was too dark for him to see anything. Jake could see a door with a valve handle on it, in the corner of his eye. He jogged up to it and peered into the window.

Jake whispered “It’s that bitch and that doctor.”

Jade walked to the body that was laid on the operating table and leaned over it. She laughed as she cut the heart out and drained the blood into a cylindrical test tube.

“Does that other one know about your condition?”

Jade replied “No. He hasn’t the slightest clue.” looking over at the door.

  “Something wrong?”

  “No. Nothing. Nothing at all.”

Looking into the telescope, Doctor Vernon explained “Let’s continue with our work, before any other interruptions occur.”

Jake peered in the window. Jade was dissecting the body, on the operating table. There was a cage in the corner of the room. She walked to it and placed a plate in front of it. The door slowly opened. A mutated human crawled out of it. The beast looked over at the door and locked eyes with Jake. Growling, it charged at the door, ramming it off of its hinges.

Doctor Vernon shouted “What the Hell was that about?!” angrily.

  “I don’t know.”

“Well, go find out. It could be an intruder.”

  “Yes, Sir.”

Jade ran out of the room, searching for the mutated human, and the intruder. Jake looked down, out of the air vent, and watched the beast barrel down the hall, disappearing, out of sight.

Breathing, deeply, Jake whispered “A little too close for comfort.”

He crawled through the air vent. There were two paths in front of him. Growling could be heard, coming from one of the paths. A chill ran down Jake’s spine. Breathing, deeply, he crawled down the path on the right. As he continued crawling through the air vent, muffled voices suddenly appeared. There was an air vent gate underneath him. He looked down and Jade was walking around, holding something.

Doctor Vernon asked, thoroughly “Did you run that analysis?” slowly entering the room.

  “Affirmative.”

  “What do you have?”

Jade replied “I have a Connor Pierce, and a Jacob Winthrop.” while handing him the two folders.

  “So, they’re military troops.”

“Well, Connor is dead, because of his murderer of a partner.”

  “I’m aware of that.”

“That other imbecile is working on that 967JD Case file.” Jade laughed, hysterically.

“That Missing Persons file, I presume?”

  “Precisely. That’s the one, doctor.”

Doctor Vernon laughed “What a fool. He doesn’t know that there isn’t such a case.”

He left the laboratory. Jake continued to crawl through the air vent. He reached the end of it and peered through the gate in front of him. It hit the floor, with a thud, after he kicked it off. He dropped down, to the floor.

Aiming a gun at the back of his head, Jade ordered “Don’t move!”

“So, you, and that doctor set this entire scheme up?”

“I wouldn’t call it a scheme. More like a ploy.”

  “You psychopath!”

Jade spat “Watch you mouth!” as she pistol whipped Jake, in the back of his head.

He collapsed to the floor and rolled onto his back. Jade stood over him, aiming the pistol at him.

“I should kill you, but that would foil our plans.”

  “Plans?! What plans?!”

  “You’ll find out, soon enough.”

Jake pulled a knife out of his
boot. He jammed it into Jade’s leg, causing her to collapse to the floor. She shot at him, as he ran out of the laboratory. Jake looked back and there was a trail of blood behind him. A sharp pain ran through his body, causing him to fall to one knee.

Jade hollered, viciously “YOU’LL PAY FOR WHAT YOU’VE DONE!!!” limping out of the laboratory.

Jake stood up and hobbled down the hall. Doctor Vernon approached Jade, who was limping toward him.

  “It’s Jake!”

“Go find him! And put an end to this!”

She nodded her head and limped down the hall. She turned the corner and was immediately hit, in her face, with a fire extinguisher. She hit the floor and lied there, unconsciously.

  Jake muttered “You rotten bitch.”

He dragged her unconscious body to one of the chamber rooms. He threw her in one of the tanks and closed it, locking it, securely.

“Let’s see you get out of this one.”

Jake hobbled over to the controls and pressed the button with the raindrop symbol on it. The tank with Jade in it, filled up with a clear, liquid substance. He dropped to one knee, as the sharp pain ran through his body, once again. He looked over at the tank and Jade was slowly regaining consciousness. She gargled and coughed up the clear, liquid substance.

Jade coughed, heavily “Get me out of here!” her voice, muffled, by the thick-layered glass.

“You’re going to suffer, just like my partner did.”

Jake hammered down on the button with the lock symbol on it. An alarm sounded. A metal barricade swung around the tank. Jade banged on the glass, as she was locked inside of it. The alarm stopped sounding, once the tank was securely sealed. Growling appeared, putting Jake on alert.

Doctor Vernon lashed out “Find that intruder and eliminate him, at all costs!”

Men, wearing gas masks, barged into the chamber room.

“Search every bit of this chamber.”
