It's Scrub nurse Jane Cabot's twenty-ninth birthday and she would like to be married before she is thirty. Her life is full - theatre nurse, Samaritan's Counsellor, choir member, hockey player - but so far she has not found the right man. Could the new anaesthetist David Kershaw be the one? He's a good worker, thoughtful of staff and patients, obviously interested in her - and drop-dead gorgeous. But she has been warned about him. He only likes casual relationships.
