Loving And Letting Go: Chapter 1It was nigh on winter when John Beiler's mental health deteriorated to the point that he had become a danger to himself and to Rebecca Zook. He had stopped taking his medications and his schizophrenia had come to control his thoughts and actions. Two sheriff's cars drove him to the mental hospital in the next town, with his mamm and daed riding along so he could be involuntarily committed and treated.Chapter 2"Yes, John, they did. I don't know how they managed to hide Rebecca that well, but, given how you were talking, it's good that they did. So, you never intended to hurt her. That's good. Tell me, just a couple days after coming back to the hospital, how do you think of her today?" Mike asked, continuing to lean forward.Chapter 3Waking, Rebecca saw that it was daybreak. Getting up, she got ready for school. Downstairs, she helped with breakfast, feeling thoughtful. It seems you got your message, Rebecca. The next time you see him, if he brings up courting, say, "Yes."Chapter 4On Christmas Day, Atlee Fisher came to visit with Rebecca after dark. Sitting in the living room, they visited and laughed, getting to know each other better. They had just begun to court, but already Rebecca felt that the beginnings of this relationship were healthier and based more on a desire to get to know each other, rather than on the desire of one to control the actions of the other. She looked forward to Atlee's visits -during the day, she completed her chores, feeling happy.Chapter 5John, seeing the cold blue look of her eyes, remembered almost too late what she had told him about her personality. He let go of her arm and raised both hands so the palms faced her.Chapter 6At the end of the summer, Jenny King began working on wedding preparations in earnest. In October, when the bishop read the wedding banns, he read out Jenny's and Caleb's names, freeing them to notify family and friends, inviting them to the impending celebration.
