Dylan (The Murphy Series Book 5)

“You look simply stunning, Wife,” Dylan said. Even after three months, that word still sounded amazing to him. Marrying Brook was the best decision in his life.
“Why thank you, Husband,” Brook replied, giving Dylan the most beautiful smile, before he reached her, giving her the softest kiss on her lips.
“You seem… I don’t know… very happy,” Dylan said, giving her a curious look. “Is something going on?”
“Nope,” she replied, giving him a knowing grin before she looked around. “Where is everyone?”
“Well, Mom and the other girls are upstairs getting ready,” Dylan replied, giving her a curious look. “Landen went to the hotel to collect Georgie’s family. Not sure where Dad is. Liam and Finn are in the den. Liam is trying to teach Finn how to change Sophie’s diaper. Talk about the blind leading the blind.”
Dylan laughed as he pictured his two brothers being bested by a tiny baby, and her diaper.
“You are so mean laughing at your brothers,” Brook said, playfully smacking him on the arm.
“I know,” Dylan said with a grin. “But it’s so much fun. Besides, you love me anyway.”
“I do,” Brook smiled kissing him on the lips. “So, where’s Callum?”
“Last time I saw him,” Dylan sighed, but then chuckled. “He was trying his hardest to wear a hole in the patio. He’s been pacing up and down for the last forty minutes trying to remember his vows.”
“Poor Callum,” Brook sighed, giving Dylan another strange look.
“Brook Murphy,” Dylan scowled, his curiosity now well and truly piqued. “There is something you’re not telling me, and I want to know what.”
“Well, Landen did mention that everything was finally settled with the civil case,” Brook replied with a smile. “He said they doubled their offer, so he accepted on my behalf. The money should be in my bank account before the end of the day.”
“So it’s really over,” Dylan sighed, knowing that this was all Brook wanted. It was never about money for her. It was about those who let her down being told that is was not okay.
“It really is,” Brook replied, but her smile widened, and Dylan knew there was more she wasn’t saying.
“But that’s not it,” Dylan smiled, knowing there was something else. “I need to know what.”
“All in good time, Doctor Murphy,” Brook said as she reached up and straightened his tie. “There, now you’re perfect.”
“You are always perfect, Mrs. Murphy,” Dylan replied kissing her one last time. “Now, I think I’m going to go check on Callum, before he wears a hole in his shoes.”
“I think that sounds like a very good idea,” Brook nodded.
“Then we will talk,” Dylan said, giving her a serious look. “Promise?”
“Promise,” Brook replied, nodding her head.
“Good,” Dylan said with a grin before he turned and hurried out the door.
Callum and Georgie’s wedding was perfect. Everyone laughed when Finn said that he was very relieved that no crazy stalker or lunatic turned up to spoil the day. And he assured everyone that the cake was still in one piece.
He talked about how Macy had come into Callum’s life, and how hard everything had been for him and Macy at first. But then he talked about how Georgie turned up, and somehow they’d become the perfect little family.
Then he talked about all of his brothers; how each one had fallen in love with the other half of their soul. He talked about how the road to happiness hadn’t always run smoothly for the men in the Murphy family, but in the end, it was always worth the fight that each one had found their happy ever after.
Then he talked about how his mother and father had shown each of the boys that marriage took hard work and commitment. He said that their love for each other, and how they taught each of his brother’s that happy ever after’s really do exist.
By the time he finished his speech, there wasn’t a dry eye left at the reception. Everyone stood and clapped before taking their seats once more.
Finally, it was time for Callum and Georgie to take to the floor for their first dance.
“That’s all of us married now,” Liam said as he and Lexi stood next to Dylan and Brook watching their brother dance with his new bride. “It’s the end of an era.”
“Or the beginning of a new adventure,” Dylan replied glancing at Brook, still having no clue what secret she was keeping.
“That’s true,” Liam nodded, giving his brother a cheeky grin. “Speaking of adventures. Do you think that guy who came as Nikki’s date knows what he’s getting himself into?”
“Don’t be mean,” Lexi scolded him. “He’s lucky to have someone like Nikki; she’s amazing.”
“She is,” Liam nodded his agreement. “But life with her certainly won’t be dull, that’s for sure.”
Dylan couldn’t help but laugh too, knowing that Liam wasn’t wrong.
“Wow,” he said as he too glanced over at Nikki, who was standing at the far side of the dance floor, her date's arms wrapped around her tightly. “I never thought I would see the day Nikki Greenway would settle down.”
“I guess we’re all growing up,” Lexi said, before she looked at Liam, then added with a smile. “Well, most of us.”
“Charming,” Liam said kissing Lexi. “How about you dance with your husband, instead of ganging up on him with this loser.”
“I would love to,” Lexi replied before Liam led her to the dance floor.
“Are you okay?” Dylan asked as he wrapped his arms around Brook from behind, then softly kissed her ear. “You’re very quiet.”
“I’m perfect,” Brook replied, giving him a broad smile, and she took his hand, and brought it to her lips. “It was a beautiful day. They look so happy.”
“Are you sorry we didn’t have a big wedding?” Dylan asked suddenly wondering if maybe Brook felt like she’d missed out.
“Not at all,” Brook smiled. “Everyone I wanted to be there with us was. All I needed was you.”
“Well, Wife,” Dylan said, holding out his hand. “Can your husband at least have our first dance?”
Brook smiled as she took his hand, and Dylan led her out to the floor. Then taking her in his arms, they began to move in time with the music.
“So, are you going to tell me what has you so happy all day?” Dylan asked as they moved around the floor.
“I was just thinking,” Brook sighed as the smile on her face widening. “All your brothers are married now.”
“They are,” Dylan replied, having no clue where she was going.
“Landen and Amelia have Henry,” she continued. “Finn and Emmy have little Sophie, Callum and Georgie have Macy, and Liam and Lexi have Ella and Noah.”
“They do,” Dylan said, still unsure what her point was.
“So, I was wondering,” Brook said, the smile on her face so big that Dylan could feel her excitement. “How would you feel about our own little Murphy boy, or girl?”
“You… you want to try for a baby?” Dylan asked, his heart now racing so fast with excitement too. Having a baby with Brook was all Dylan could think about since Emmy gave birth to Sophie. He’d just been too nervous about bringing up the conversation with Brook. But maybe she felt the same after all.
Brook didn’t reply. Instead she gave him a strange look like she was waiting for him to catch up.
Finally, he did. He knew exactly what she wasn’t saying.
“You… you mean,” he said, now almost ready to burst with excitement. “You’re…”
“About seven weeks,” Brook said, her eyes dancing with happy tears. “I wasn’t sure until last night. I wanted to wait to surprise you, you know, do this big reveal thing to you, but I can’t hold it in any longer.”
“We’re going to have a baby!” He exclaimed, almost ready to burst with excitement.
“Shhh,” she said, giving him a pleading look. “I don’t want anyone to know yet. Tonight, is Callum and Georgie’s night.”

sp; “You’re kidding me,” Dylan cried, wanted to scream the news at the top of his voice. “I don’t know if I can keep this to myself.
“We can tell them all tomorrow,” Brook assured him. “I promise.”
“Okay,” Dylan nodded knowing she was right. Still, he was struggling to contain just how excited he was. “For tonight, it’s just you, the newest Murphy boy and me.”
“Boy!” Brook exclaimed with a laugh, giving him a questioning look. “She could be a Murphy girl.”
“No, no,” Dylan said, giving her a knowing look. “Something tells me it’s a Murphy boy, now there’s a whole new generation of Murphy boys, and this adventure is just beginning.”
