River looked back at Alex.
“We're going to the gates, then we'll see what they say. Be ready for trouble,” She added.
“I'm ready for anything,” Alex replied, pausing to touch the holster of his loaded gun, “Don't let them search the vehicles in case they rob us and don't hand your weapons over.”
“We won't!” River agreed.
Then Alex got back on his bike and started it up, heading for the gates as River pulled away in the van as Chris kept a grip on his weapon, ready for the first hint of trouble.
In the car, Sage was looking intently at the nearing gates as they drew closer. Joy reached around to the back and gripped Mickey's outstretched hand and kept it in her grasp as he sat there cradling the shivering child who closed her eyes and coughed again.
Maybe this town would bring them hope. Or maybe, it was the biggest mistake they had ever made since this journey had begun. They were almost at the gate now. They would soon find out if this was the right choice, or if they had taken a fatally wrong turn...
