Hollywood Lies

“The Grand Master. Did she know?” Beatrix asked, wondering if it was just some twist of fate or if somehow the Grand Master knew and had placed them together because of their feelings for one another.

Sebastian crossed his arms. “Trinities are formed based on the potential each triad has. Potential to innovate or improve some aspect of society or technology. Trinities also serve to protect and support artists and innovators. Emotions like love don’t factor into that decision, though the Grand Master does consider compatibility. The three of you were placed together because the Grand Master feels strongly that yours and Stefan’s celebrity and existing activist efforts, when backed by the resources of the Trinity Masters, have the ability to spearhead long-lasting change. With the support of the Trinity Masters, you can effect real change both in the United States and in the world.”

“That explains them, but...what about me?” Levi asked.

“Your military experience and contacts are a critical piece of advancing their efforts. You know what conflict-stricken areas face. What they need. With your help, Beatrix and Stefan, and our other members in the military, can put pressure on the U.S. Armed Forces to change and adapt the civilian interface.”

Beatrix’s breath caught as she realized exactly how much the Grand Master expected from them. She was an actor. She could make noise and draw attention to issues, but she couldn’t…

  She glanced at her husbands.

  She could.

With them at her side, she could.

“Congratulations,” Sebastian said. “A car is waiting out front to take you to the hotel.”

He nodded his head once, then disappeared into the shadows.

None of them seemed ready to separate, even for the few minutes it would take to change back into their clothing.

“I hope the two of you rested up because it’s been a long, lonely few months,” Stefan said. “I’ve had too many nights alone in my bed to imagine all the ways I would have taken you if we’d had more time.”

Levi grinned and rubbed his hands together. “We have time now. All of it.”

“I still can’t believe it.” Beatrix had said the same thing several times now, but her future reality, this dreams-coming-true moment, was still too new.

Stefan reached out, pulling both of them to him in a three-way hug.

Beatrix had never felt so warm, so safe.

  So loved.
