Alder was mentally exhausted answering another round of questions from two police detectives and accompanying FBI agent visiting his home. The same questions were repeatedly being bombarded towards him, only asked slightly different. He could sense their frustration just as much as he was frustrated covering the same ground with no relevant information exposed.
“Well we're getting ready to try and visit my friend Stephen in the hospital. So can we move this along?” Alder interjected hoping to end the interrogation.
Detective Salinski responded, his high pitch voice annoying Alder. “I don't know if you realize, they're still not allowing anyone to talk to him at this time, apart from law enforcement, of course.”
“We'd still like to try,” Alder answered.
“Well then, just a couple of more questions,” Detective Salinski continued.
“I don't think so. We've definitely answered enough questions the last couple of days. I don't know what more we could answer.”
“Alright then, thank you for your time Mr. Dennison,” Agent Normans interposed, firmly directing the signal for departure to both detectives.
As soon as the three investigators left the house, Alder wanted another drink. He pulled out a fresh diamond-cut crystal tumbler and filled it half-full with bourbon. He saw a look of disapproval in his wife's light brown eyes.
“You want some?” Alder quipped, reacting to her stare and offering her his glass.
She remained quiet.
“Fine, more for me.”
Alder's comment made Maria more upset. He just stood by the bar watching as his wife reorient a couple of knick knacks on the shelf unit, grab one of Michelle's dolls from the steps on the staircase and storm upstairs. “We're going to leave in ‘bout half an hour,” he commented.
“We're not going with you if you keep drinking like that. Besides, he's your friend anyway,” Maria sharply answered, reaching the top step, realizing she hollered loud enough to wake both children from their nap.
Alder glanced at his glass half filled with bourbon. The thought of pouring out the liquor crossed his mind, but he decided to finish off the drink.
Thinking about what Detective Salinski warned him concerning Stephen, he pulled out his phone and called the medical center to find out Stephen was still being sequestered from seeing any visitors. Alder prepared another drink and caught up on a couple of TV shows, using the quiet time to unwind before having to return to work in the morning after several days off.
