Some Laneys Died: A Skipping Sideways Thriller
Page 27
I have been fortunate to find excellent beta readers and editors to help me discover my ideas, shape my thoughts coherently, and write the best story I can. At the top of that list is Jerrica McDowell, an enthusiastic long-time supporter who’s unafraid to point out errors and plot holes. And to tell me what works. Plus, she’s pretty good at writing blurbs.
Special thanks to Barbara Kuzic, Emma Fenton, Jessica Scurlock, Samantha Cove, Sarah Abiz-Strugala, Maddy D, SequenceD, Heather Lucinda, Ashleigh Bilodeau, Alex Rook, and Ruth Torrence, a very intelligent high school student who gave me feedback well beyond her years. She will be my go-to true YA reader. Also, I wish to thank Cate Hogan, an expert in storytelling, for her excellent advice.
Once again, Cherie Chapman (www.ccbookdesign.com) designed my cover. She is amazing. I write books quickly so I can work with her as often as possible.
There was always a Laney in this story, but Bailee found her way into this book, just like she found her twin sister Laney. I am grateful for her persistence and determination. Without her, there would be no series of Skipping Sideways Thrillers. Yes, Book Two is on the way.
About the Author
Brooke Skipstone is a multi-award winning author who lives in Alaska where she watches the mountains change colors with the seasons from her balcony. Where she feels the constant rush toward winter as the sunlight wanes for six months of the year, seven minutes each day, bringing crushing cold that lingers even as the sun climbs again. Where the burst of life during summer is urgent under twenty-four-hour daylight, lush and decadent. Where fish swim hundreds of miles up rivers past bear claws and nets and wheels and lines of rubber-clad combat fishers, arriving humped and ragged, dying as they spawn. Where danger from the land and its animals exhilarates the senses, forcing her to appreciate the difference between life and death. Where the edge between is sometimes too alluring.
Some Laneys Died is her second novel. Her first was Someone To Kiss My Scars, also available in French (Embrasser Mes Blessures) and Spanish (Alguien Que Bese Mis Heridas).

“Powerful. Original. Deeply felt and convincing.” — Kirkus Reviews
Hunter needs to remember. Jazz needs to forget. They need each other to heal in this teen thriller of survivor love.
Hunter’s past is a mystery to him, erased by a doctor at the direction of his father. But memories of the secret trauma begin to surface when Hunter sees other people’s memories—visions invading his mind with stories of abuse, teen self-mutilation, rape, and forbidden sex.
His best friend Jazz has dark and disturbing memories of her own that she hides behind her sass and wit. Hunter discovers he can rescue the victims, even though he risks adding their suffering to his own.
Hunter and Jazz kiss each other’s scars and form a bond of empathy no two teens should ever need.
Book Two of Skipping Sideways Thriller Series
All The Other Laneys (will release during fall 2020)
In Book One, bones from twin girls moved into Laney’s universe. As did her sister, Bailee. But separate universes still existed. A new universe formed with each choice she made.
In Book Two, those universes collapse, forcing all
the other Laneys into one world. Can they all exist together? Or do Laney’s choices eliminate her other selves? And other Bailees?
And Cadens?
