“Sorry...sorry.” Tommy hid his mouth behind his hand. “So, no damage?”

Ken shook his head. “Nah, house is fine. Trisha’s car is dirty but undamaged. Muddy out there and there is a shit-ass load of water down at the end of the driveway.”

  “Lovely!” Trisha scrunched her nose.

“At least classes are canceled.” Tommy shrugged.

  “Coffee?” Trisha piped up.

“Coffee!” Both men agreed at the same time.

  Chapter Nine

  9:15 a.m.

KEN and Tommy dug into the bacon, eggs, and toast Trisha had whipped up. She refilled their coffee mugs, and hers, before taking her place at the table. Normally, she wasn’t a big eater, but after an evening filled with boozing and debauchery, there was nothing like a big, greasy breakfast. “You know what would make this breakfast better?”

“I can’t think of anything.” Tommy managed to speak between swallowing and stuffing a forkful of eggs into his mouth.

“I’m thinking a pot of grits, gravy, some hash browns, and about half a pig’s worth of sausage.” Trisha rubbed her tummy with one hand before taking a bite of her toast.

Tommy laughed, and Ken lifted an eyebrow. “That would be more fat grams than you’ve eaten in the last two months.”

“Ugh, don’t remind me.” Trisha frowned. “I want to scarf down comfort food without any thought of what it’s doing to my body.” Both men smiled as Trisha took another bite of bacon. She swallowed her food and took a sip of coffee. “You know, I’m proud of you two. You jumped right in and gave me exactly what I wanted. I hadn’t imagined you guys would be so...open.”

The two men exchanged uncomfortable looks before concentrating on their food and continuing to eat. Trisha glanced from Ken to Tommy and back to Ken. They both had red faces and jittery hands. “What aren’t you two telling me?”

“Nothing,” Tommy answered a little too quickly.

Trisha narrowed her eyes, leaning back against her chair as she folded her arms across her chest. While surveying the two like a lion circling a sickly gazelle, she keyed in on the weak link. “Ken...”

He flinched, dropping his fork in his plate but still refusing to meet her eyes. “Look at me.” While his gaze remained focused on his eggs, Ken threw Tommy under the bus. “He burst in on me during my private time and forcibly sucked my dick!”

Trisha’s jaw dropped and Tommy jumped to his feet, shrieking. “Whaaaaa...no, not...how...not what happened at all. I did not suck his dick!”

Her eyes widening as a huge smile spread across her face, Trisha tilted her head and clasped her hands in front of her. “Soooo, what did happen?”

Tommy opened his mouth, grunting out a few unintelligible sounds. “I was looking for my lotion when I walked in on this guy lubing up his pole with it while he’s watching porn and using his body like an amusement park.” Ken threw a small corner of toast, hitting Tommy on the shoulder. “Oh, mature, Ken, very mature.

“No one told you to sit down and join me. You could have left.”

Trisha gasped, her eyebrows rounding as she clapped her hands inaudibly “Sounds hot! Were you watching man-on-man porn?”

Ken dropped his fork again. “Fuck no! I don’t have any gay porn.” He nodded his head to the side toward his friend. “He might.”

Tommy scoffed, balling up his napkin and throwing it at Ken. “No way... At least all of my porn is live-action, not animated.”

Before Ken could retort, Trisha said, “I like Asian hentai movies, especially Yaoi.”

“What’s Yaoi?” Tommy glimpsed at her.

You really don’t want to know.” Ken shook his head before focusing his silver-gray eyes on Trisha. “You’re more perverted than I ever dreamed.”

She lifted her eyebrows and widened her eyes as innocently as she could manage. “Is that bad?”

Ken took a sip of coffee before setting his mug down and swallowing. “I’m happy with it.”

Tommy pursed his lips, repressing a snicker. “Me too.”

Her hands fidgety, she picked up a napkin, wringing the square of paper. “So... where does this leave the parameters of our friendship?”

“I don’t think there are any boundaries anymore.” Ken wagged his head and shrugged. “We pretty much shot any constraints all to hell.”

“So, where does that leave the three of us?” Her voice cracked as she spoke.

Tommy shot her an incredulous look. “Together... Come hell or high water.”

She released a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding. “Good, I don’t know what I would do if you guys were suddenly not in my life anymore.”

“Never going to happen.” Ken reached over to run his fingertip along her arm. “You fucked up. Now you’re stuck with us.”

Her heart thumped hard as she choked up. She glanced from one gorgeous man to the other. “You know it won’t be easy. There will be a lot of obstacles to a relationship like ours.”

“Don’t care.” Ken’s reply came without a pause.

Tommy reached over and took the napkin Trisha was pulverizing. He set the ragged remnants on the table before taking her hand. “Look, I can’t promise we won’t struggle, but we will talk everything out and work through any issues together. We all love each other.”

Ken placed his hand on top of theirs. “Yeah.”

“The three of us will take care of each other no matter what. That’s a promise.” Tommy squeezed her fingers.

As her heart swelled, Trisha nodded.

Ken swallowed his last bite of eggs. “I might have a lead on that.”

“Oh?” Tommy turned his head in Ken’s direction.

“I finally finished the code for the software you wanted.”

“Say what?” Tommy’s jaw dropped and his cup almost slipped out of his hand, splattering droplets on the table as he fumbled.

“You know, the program you said would make your summer job at your dad’s clinic a lot easier. I finished it. Tedious as hell, and kind of a bitch, but you should be able to export all that medical data, and then matching the codes for filing health insurance will be a breeze.”

Tommy gasped. “Ken, you realize I was joking—I never expected you would actually... There is no way...” The blond’s eyes were so wide, his irises were completely visible. “Wait... Really? Do you have any idea...”? He trailed off as he looked off to the side.

Trisha raised an eyebrow, glancing at Tommy and then over to Ken. “What am I missing now?”

“Ken’s a fucking genius.” Tommy lifted and shook both of his hands for emphasis. For his part, Ken didn’t react or respond except to slurp his coffee.

“That isn’t news.” Trisha rolled her eyes. “Explain… More detail.”

Tommy hooked his thumb, pointing to Ken with the digit. “He doesn’t even know what he has done. If this program works like he says it does, it’s valuable. I can sell it to all my dad’s doctor pals. We can distribute the software to clinics and hospitals all over the place for a lot of cash.”

Ken’s eyes glazed over and he hissed through his teeth. “All that sounds like dealing with people. That’s all you.” He returned his attention to his food, picking up his bacon, and taking a bite.

“Yeah, of course, you will just need to be able to support the program if there are any tech-related client issues.” Tommy rambled to himself, tapping his fingers on the table. “If we can come up with some money for marketing and travel, I could sell this all over Texas and further... Shit.”

“Why are you acting so surprised?” Ken threw Tommy a sideways glance. “Wasn’t opening up our own business always the plan? Graduation is almost here. Why did you think I’d been so stressed?”

Tommy rubbed his temples; his face awash with a mixture of pride and awe. “That was the dream, but I never thought... I mean, I thought...eventually. I assumed it would take a while.”

His dark hair flopping to the side, Ken jerked his head back. “We graduate in a few m
onths. Just when exactly did you think we were going to do it? Were we going to deliver pizza and fill out job applications like a couple of shmucks?”

Tommy shrugged. “Well, yeah, I kind of figured we would have to start off working for someone else first.”

“Fuck that!” Ken shook his head. “Sitting on my ass, getting a degree, and going to work at some entry-level, ass-kissing, people-pleasing job? Hell no. I hate interviews and dealing with bullshit meetings and collaborative projects. I’d rather shovel shit for a living.”

Trisha pursed her lips, trying not to look too disappointed. She’d be happy if the two found success in Texas, but she didn’t want them to go without her. “I’m going to miss you guys while you’re starting up your business. I still have another year of school to go.”

“Pfft,” Tommy snorted. “We won’t be leaving without you even if we have to spend a year here shoveling shit to come up with start-up capital.”

The corners of Trisha’s mouth turned up and her eyes watered. How ridiculous. He says something that crude, and I’m so happy I’m about to cry! “Seriously? You guys are going to stay until I graduate?”

“Only if you promise to go with us when we head back home.” Tommy smiled after delivering the offer of a lifetime to her. Ken looked up and nodded.

Trisha’s heart skipped a beat. This is almost like a proposal. “You know, my grandmother left me a tidy sum when she passed on... Want a silent partner?” Both men laughed heartily. Insulted, Trisha frowned. “How is that funny?”

“Since when have you ever been silent?” Tommy laughed again, a huge grin pushing his cheeks up like apples.

Trisha snickered. “You got me there.”

“We will be glad to take your money.” The big, tall blond winked at her.

“I’ll need a business plan to show my accountant but I believe in you guys.”

“Got it.” Tommy squeezed her hand again before taking another sip of coffee. “While we’re partnering up, how about you ditch the dorm and move in with us?”

“Really?” Trisha’s tummy fluttered as if hundreds of butterflies had suddenly broken free from cocoons inside.

“Tommy’s room is twelve square-feet larger than mine. We can buy a king-sized bed to replace his single. Then we can turn my room into an office until we get commercial space.”

Tommy grinned, nodding. Trisha could practically see the wheels turning inside his head. “During summer break, the three of us will go back to Texas to start the groundwork with Dad and his contacts. Our parents need to meet Trish before we get married anyway.”

  “Married?” Trisha gasped.

Ken argued, “Who says you get to marry Trisha?”

Tommy reached into his pocket and pulled out a coin. “Heads or tails?”

“Heads,” Ken called as Tommy tossed the coin, catching it in mid-air and smacking it down on the table.

“Ha! Tails! In your face! Who’s the man?” Tommy hooted, raising his arms in victory as Ken scowled sullenly. Trisha sat with her mouth agape, still too aghast to speak, but Tommy noticed Ken’s expression and said, “You can father the first child.”

Horrorstruck, she snapped out of the haze to protest. “Excuse me!” How dare they plan her life for her like she wasn’t even there! “I don’t remember anyone asking me to get married! And kids? Are you fucking kidding me? That conversation is quite a way off!”

Ken eyed her as if she had grown cat ears and a tail. “Um...we agreed; hell or high water. It can be assumed that means forever with a family... No?”

“No! Not unless it’s discussed and agreed upon!” Trisha pushed away from the table and began to gather up the dishes.

“Hey, I was still eating that.” Tommy sounded annoyed.

“Sucks when other people decide stuff for you, doesn’t it!” She took his coffee cup too.

Tommy flashed puppy dog eyes she couldn’t resist, and she returned his meal to him. “Come on. Don’t be like that. I’ll come up with a romantic way to propose but give me time to save up for a ring. I’ll introduce you to my parents as Ken and my business partner and my future fiancée.”

Good grief! He barely took a breath as he spat all that out. Aren’t girls supposed to be the ones into all this marriage and family stuff?

“What?” Tommy finally seemed to notice her dumbfounded expression. “You don’t want marriage and kids? I want kids? Ken?”

“Yeah, I want to get Trisha pregnant,” he said, bluntly.

She rolled her eyes, thinking about how she would have snapped the head off of any other man who uttered such nonsense, but she knew Ken hadn’t meant what he said, the way it sounded.

“Ken means he wants a lifelong connection with you.” Apparently, Tommy caught how bad Ken’s statement had come off as well.

“I know.” She sighed after realizing she shouldn’t let stubborn pride stand in the way of reaching out to grab exactly what she wanted. “Fine but I’m not having a baby anytime soon, and I expect a unique, memorable, and classy proposal with a ring!” Her skin tingled as she shivered. A future with both Ken and Tommy, her most heartfelt wish, was coming true. She placed her hand on her chest as if she could control her racing heart.

Ken wiped under her eye with the side of his finger. “What’s wrong?”

Trisha hadn’t realized she’d been crying. “No...I... I just wanted this so much but never imagined I could have both of you.” Ken grabbed her around the waist before pulling her into his lap. Tommy moved to kneel, joining the hug by throwing his arms around them while resting his head on Trisha’s lap.

She ran her hand through a mass of his curls as he cautioned, “Careful what you wish for...”
