Amelia and her mother, Diane, prepared the food while everyone else sat around outside.

“I plan on having your baby shower once the little girl is here,” her mother stated as she prepared the vegetable tray and dip. “I’m sure everyone will want to meet her.”

Amelia placed the tray on the counter and walked back to the sink. She prepared the last bit of fruit and carried it to the counter. “Thank you for being here today, Mom.”

“I wouldn’t want to miss it,” her mother stated. “Rumor has it something special is going to happen today.”

Amelia raised an eyebrow. “What’s that?”

Her mother shrugged her shoulders. “You’ll have to wait and see.” She walked through the front door and out onto the front porch.

Amelia followed her. Everyone sat in a circle on the front porch. Benny and Bailey sat on the swing. Amelia’s parents sat along the railing of the porch. Zach sat on one knee and held open a small black box. Inside the box sat a medium-sized diamond ring. It glistened as the sunlight shined on it.

Amelia’s eyes grew wide and filled with tears when she realized what Zach had planned. She covered her mouth and said, “Oh, my gosh, Zach.”

Zach cleared his throat and said, “We’ve been through plenty of ups and downs. We’ve had plenty of unexpected chances.” He smiled up at her as she walked closer to him. “Amelia Jean Edwards, will you marry me?”

She bounced on the heels of her feet and said, “Yes! Yes, I’ll marry you!”

He slid the ring on her finger and wrapped his arms around her. She held his face with her hands and kissed him. “I love you, Zachary Michael Gallagher.”

“And I love you, soon-to-be Amelia Jean Gallagher.”
