“I will pretend I did not hear that,” the priest said before raising his voice once more. “JD, Sarah, you are now husband and wife. You may now morally...” Seeing the amused look on JD’s face, he did not finish the sentence. “Why do I even bother?” he asked the air above him as he looked upward, his hands spread as though he was making a plea. “Oh just get on with the kissing.”

Jonathon and Katie kept theirs subtle; JD and Sarah didn’t.

“He’s your son, not mine,” JD’s father said to his wife and JD glanced over to see her scandalised look. His father was grinning.

“Hello Mrs Albery,” JD said to Sarah when he released her.

“I like the sound of that.” Then a thought suddenly occurred to her. “This ceremony was legal wasn’t it?”

“Yes. It was legal. We now have to go and sign the register and get our marriage certificate. You are now mine in the eyes of everyone, not just the hunter society.”

Sarah couldn’t keep the smile off her face.

The reception was held at Sanctuary 14. A huge marquee was put up in the grounds as no building was large enough to hold all of the guests.

“Well it was certainly the most entertaining wedding I have ever been to,” Doc was telling JD’s parents as JD and Sarah walked up to them.

“I would expect nothing less from my sons. It seems like neither of them like to follow any of the rules anymore.”

“I’m glad we didn’t disappoint you,” JD said.

“What happened to you?” his father continued. “You used to be so strict, so disciplined. You would never dream of doing anything that would be frowned upon.”

JD grinned. “I met this incredible woman.”

“And we’re all very glad you did dear,” his mother said before taking Sarah in her arms and kissing her cheek.

“Sarah and I are heading up to the house. It’s getting late and I need to feed.” It was a lie, but it was a lie he knew that nobody would question. He just wanted to be alone with Sarah to celebrate their marriage properly. “We’re just finishing doing the rounds, thanking people for coming, that sort of thing.”

  “Come and see us soon.”

“We will,” Sarah said then JD led her away.

“Are you upset that your family and friends couldn’t be here?” JD asked her as they walked toward the mansion. “We could always have a second wedding if you want.”

Sarah shook her head. “No. I’m quite happy to tell everyone we eloped.”

At the front door, JD picked her up and carried her over the threshold. “That’s one tradition that applies to hunters as well as normal people.”

“Normal people?” Sarah asked, one eyebrow raised.

“You know what he means,” a voice sounded behind them. They turned around and saw Jonathon picking up Katie.

“What’s your excuse for leaving early?” JD asked.

“I simply said that the marriage needed to be consummated. I think everyone was so stunned that I was so blunt that they didn’t object,” Katie said.

“How did you convince the priest to call you JD instead of Jason?” Jonathon asked as the two couples climbed the stairs. “I thought correct names had to be used.”

“I threatened to bite him.” Jonathon stared at his brother, but his face was unreadable so he couldn’t work out if he was joking or not.

They reached JD and Sarah’s room first. “Have fun you two,” Sarah said to Katie and Jonathon as JD picked her up once more.

“I think I can guarantee that,” Jonathon replied as the two continued to walk down the corridor, hand in hand.

“So Mrs Albery,” JD said as he laid her down on the bed. “What would you like to do now?”

“I’m sure we can think of something.” She kissed him and he was starting to respond in the way she hoped when the alarm went off.

“Please tell me this is a joke,” JD said.

Sarah smiled at him. “7 wouldn’t be that cruel would they?”

He shook his head. “No. They’re probably setting off the alarm here as we’re the only team in a position to go hunting, seeing as all other hunters are here. Without their suits or swords, I hasten to add.”

Sarah gave him a quick kiss. “Then help me get out of this dress. We have some vampires to kill.”
