Maverick: Rogue Enforcers Novel

“She’s alright, I suppose. The only good witch I’ve ever met that doesn’t make me want to eliminate her. Until…”
“Yeah, I get it, she opens her mouth.”
“Now you’re catching on, Connelly.” I smirk at her as she rolls those beautiful hazel eyes of hers at me. She’s such a contradiction to wolves I’ve met in the past. They usually bear some lighter tones of hair color, but she bears hair as dark as night, with hazel eyes that I could get lost in for days at a time. Her lithe, athletic build is courtesy of her wolf gene, but her large breasts, yeah, those are something I noticed right away and find myself vigorously staring at here and there.
“My eyes are up here, Maverick,” she says, lifting my chin to where our eyes meet. “I take it you’re a breast man?”
“And thighs, and ass, and those unbelievable eyes you have,” I admit.
“Good to know,” she says with laughter coming out in her words. “Should we help them?” Her head tilts to the side as she keeps her eyes glued to my friends as they finish taking the heads off the last few members that I can see.
“Nah, they’ve got it.” I’ve never held anyone’s hand before, and the feel of her body as it leans into mine brings forth some foreign feelings I’ve never experienced before. For once in my life, I want someone’s touch.
Connelly
Mate is sexy. Claim him now my wolf howls in my head.
Welcome back. I never thought I’d miss someone as much as I have you, wolf. Where have you been?
In the darkness, I could see everything happening, but I couldn’t talk to you or help you out. I don’t know why, but let’s not allow that to happen again.
Agreed. We need to shift in order to heal, are you up to it?
Always, we need to run, then… we mate.
Can we at least shower first before you hump our mate’s leg?
She sighs in my head before finally replying if you insist.
Thank you I respond as I feel my bones begin to crack as they make way for my wolf to take over. As soon as all four paws touch the ground, I begin circling Maverick. Marking my territory so to speak, surrounding him in our scent so others know not to come close. My wolf is a possessive bitch it seems.
“Your wolf is beautiful, Connelly,” Maverick tells me. His voice is husky and full of admiration. My wolf is as white as the driven snow, with a saddle mixed of different shades of grey. She is very impressive.
My wolf prances in front of him, showing off her exquisiteness. If she were a cat, she’d be purring with his praise. Mate thinks we’re sexy.
He didn’t say that, he said we’re beautiful in wolf form I internally roll my eyes, making sure she sees the action.
Nope, he thinks we’re sexy, he wants to mount us.
Jeez, wolf. A little full of yourself, aren’t you? In response to my question, she turns her back to Maverick and wiggles her ass. It’s her way of inviting him to take her from behind. Stop it! This is not the way our first time will be with him. I doubt seriously he’s into bestiality, wolf.
I bet he’s a beast she flutters her tail.
Stop making him think we’re a hussy, wolf!
We are a hussy, for him we’ll always be available. How can I argue with that? I hear him chuckling as he bends down and runs his fingers through the coat of my hair.
“I will not take you like a wild animal, Connelly. Plus, no one will ever bear witness to our lovemaking. That’s for us alone,” he informs me, tilting his head to the side to show me that we now have an audience.
My mate! My wolf growls and takes a protective stance against the new group of interlopers. Her teeth are bared as she warns them away from him. She wants to protect him, I can’t fault her for that, but these are his friends.
Wolf, no. These are his friends; you can’t eat them.
They’re too close to him! she angrily responds.
“Wolf! Control yourself,” Maverick states, snapping his fingers in her face. “These are friends of mine, they helped me rescue you. Be nice.”
She lets off an irritated huff at him before I take my body back over. “Sorry,” I say once my human body has taken control, “it seems she’s a little protective over you, Maverick.”
“As she should be. She’s a good protector for her mate,” Charisma says in approval.
See! They understand, let me back out.
No, wolf. It’s time for you to rest for awhile. Thank you for helping me regain some strength.
I’ve been slumbering a long time. You should let me take over again until we’re one hundred percent better.
When we get to where we’re going, I’ll make sure to let you out to run. Promise I tell her. She turns her back on me in my mind then sticks up her tail. It’s her way of flipping me off. Kind of rude if you were to ask me.
“Is your wolf agitated?” Maverick questions.
“She’s been locked away for a long time and needs to stretch her legs longer than what she was allowed,” I answer.
“That’s my fault,” Charisma inserts herself into our conversation.
“What do you mean?” I skeptically ask her.
“I knew if she made an appearance; you’d end up killed by the spiked collar. I had to put her to sleep, only until you were rescued. I couldn’t take the chance that you’d shift and die. It was mild and the spell broke as soon as your mate touched you.”
“You really shouldn’t mess with one’s wolf, Charisma. I thought I’d lost her when she didn’t respond to me.”
I’m gonna rip her head off! my wolf viciously growls. She needs to pay for her indiscretions.
“I only wanted to save you,” Charisma interrupts my wolf’s tirade. “They would’ve shredded you to pieces if you’d shifted.”
“Who? The vamps or the spikes?” I question, hands firmly planted on my hips to keep them from reaching out and choking the life from her. Well, technically she’s already dead, but I would make it a permanent demise.
“Calm yourself, mate. She did what she had to do in order to save you.” Maverick reaches out for me and pulls me into his side. “She did this for us, to ensure we had a future, Connelly. Please don’t be angry with her.”
“Easier said than done, but I will try. Did y’all manage to kill all of the vamps?” I turn my question to the group.
“Some scurried off into the night,” the witch, Esmerelda informs us. “They will come after us, we need to join forces and be prepared. We must not be separated or it will be the end of our existence on this earthly plane.”
“Joy, we’re having a sleepover,” I huff. I want some alone time with Maverick. We need to get to know each other and seal our mating. It’s usually a three-day event for wolves. The woman goes into heat as soon as the bite of a mating mark has taken place. The heat lasts three long days from what my mother told me. The woman has to be tended to morning, noon, and night by her mate. It’s a love fest of sorts. We will only stop long enough to fuel ourselves with food and liquids.
“Let’s go, the longer we sit here, the easier it is for us to become prey,” Maverick informs us. We all trudge to where they parked. I’m ecstatic when I see two bikes and a very colorful van. “The black bike is mine,” Maverick says as we come upon them. And black it is, the rims, the pipes; it’s all midnight black. I’ve never ridden on a bike before, and I can’t wait for my first experience to be with him.
“You’re naked,” he says with wide eyes. I’m surprised it took him this long to notice.
“Yeah, sort of happens when I shift without removing my clothes first.”
“This won’t do,” he says as he eyes me from top to bottom. His eyes alight in need as they land on my breasts. The wanton woman in me sticks her chest out further.
“Fucking hell,” he hisses and I laugh at his uncomfortableness. As shifters, nudity doesn't bother us, but it seems my mate is just as protective of my nudity as my wolf is of his person.
Maverick
Her hands shake as I help her mount
my bike. I assist her to wrap her hands around my waist as I pull her body to where it’s plastered against mine. “Place your feet here,” I show her the pedals for her feet to rest on. “Make sure you don’t touch the pipes.” She’s wearing nothing more than my shirt. Once we had made it to where we parked our rides, I realized she was naked and took my shirt off and tossed it on her. I didn’t come prepared with any extra clothing for her to wear. I’ll have to make sure I’m more prepared in the future at anticipating her needs.
Since my place is the closest, and has enough rooms for everyone to sleep in, I mentally decide that my house is our best option. It’s secured with technology, I’m a bit dramatic when it comes to security. My property is outlined with the best technology as well as my cabin. Privacy and protection is my top priority when it comes to my sanctuary. Now that I’ve found the missing piece of my soul, I’m happy that I’ve taken such cautious measures when it comes to my home… our home.
I lead the others to where I live. They follow with no questions asked, which is why these people are the ones I chose to help me out. It’s not that I don’t believe the other Rogues wouldn’t have assisted me, it’s that Paxton is the only one I know on a deep level. I’ve briefly met the others here and there, but I have no connection with them. I don’t trust, nor play well with others, which is why the Blood and Bones Enforcers rejected me in the first place after initial training when I attacked another recruit after he touched me without prior consent.
Fuck ‘em, Colton found me, then trained me to be the best Rogue Enforcer I could be. He gave me a purpose in life, one that led me to Connelly. I’ll be forever grateful to him for this. He doesn’t care about my socialization skills, only that of my ability to carry out a job. And I’m damn good at it. Not the following orders bit; but he’s found a way to accept that. I’m good at what I do, so he gives me a little leeway.
As we pull up my drive, the security lights come on and I see Paxton’s eyebrows raise when he takes in my home. Everyone assumes I live a life of a peasant, I’m sure they have all envisioned a one room shack that’s falling in on itself. My home is nestled into a mountain, but the front of the home is visible, and has a rock-like exterior. It blends in well with its surroundings, making it hard to locate. I have a table and chairs out front for the nights when I sit out and enjoy the peacefulness of the animals as they play. They are my neighbors and help me protect our shared homestead. I feed them which has earned me their unwavering loyalty. Jasper, my friend and foe, who happens to be a squirrel, gallops over to us. He’s usually a shy fucker, so imagine my surprise when he waltzes right up to Connelly. “Well, hello little friend.” She bends over and scoops him up. He runs up her arm and settles himself on her shoulder.
“Well, that’s different,” Paxton says with a mystified expression.
“She’s an animal whisperer,” Esmerelda gasps. “It’s very rare, and a gift that is sought out.”
“Excuse me, did you say animal whisperer?” I angle my head to watch as Jasper rubs his head on Connelly’s cheek. I’ve never seen him so open, he’s not like this even with me. I usually have to lay his food out and step away for him to come within eyesight of me.
“Animals have always gravitated to me,” Connelly states as she runs her fingers over his head.
“Can you hear them?” Esmerelda questions her.
“I’m not crazy,” Connelly quickly defends herself.
“Of course you aren't.” I get ready to defend my mate’s honor. “You’re special, spectacular.”
“Rare,” Charisma inserts. “Animal whisperers are very powerful beings. I’m afraid you will always be hunted for that special gift alone. Everyone will want to use you to empower them.”
“Why would someone seek her out?” Landry asks the question that’s rumbling around in my head.
Connelly
“Because, not only can I communicate with the wild, but I can also command them to do my bidding,” I reluctantly answer. My father always warned me not to let anyone discover my gift. I can not only command the naturally born animals, but shifters when they are in their animal forms as well.
“So, say you told one of them to attack me, they’d just what… do it?” Landry continues with her line of questioning.
“Yes,” I hesitantly answer.
“That’s so cool!” Landry exclaims.
“Not so cool if it’s you she commands to kill,” Esmerelda explains.
“Say what now?” Paxton dumbfoundedly questions Esmerelda’s previous statement.
“This is why she’s going to be sought out for the rest of her life. She can not only command natural born animals, but shifters as well.”
“Don’t you mind trick me,” Landry points an accusatory finger in my direction. “I’ll bite you.” I can’t help but giggle at her.
“I’ve only ever used it against a shifter if they’re attacking me or hurting an innocent,” I go on to explain.
“This is extraordinary,” Maverick exclaims. “My mate is perfect.”
“Did you expect anything but?” I go on to tease him.
“Never thought I’d have a mate, Connelly. I’m different. There’s a lot I need to explain to you. But first, let’s get you inside, feed you and let you get clothed.”
“Sounds like a fantastic plan to me, Maverick. Time for you to go play, little buddy.” I lean down and let Jasper leap off of me. “Show me our home.” I turn and face him, lifting up on the tip of my toes, I kiss him under his chin. He reaches his hand out to me and I clasp mine in his. As we walk inside, my stomach rumbles. It’s not the first time this has happened, but it’s loud and Maverick’s eyes widen, then narrow as his eyes travel to my stomach.
“I’ve got some steaks in the freezer, I’ll get them cooked as soon as I get you settled in the bathroom. I did promise you a well-prepared meal and bath, Connelly. I have a gigantic bathtub that you can soak in while I get everything prepared.”
“I have a few extra clothes you can borrow, Connelly,” Landry inserts. “I’ll grab them while Maverick gets you settled, then, I’ll start dinner so he can be with you.” She quickly turns away and walks back outside with Paxton practically walking on the back of her feet. It’s amazing to watch the couple together, if she moves, it’s like a magnetic force is pulling him, and he moves with her. They’re so in sync with one another, I can’t help but wonder if one day that will be Maverick and myself.
“Come on, beautiful, it’s time to get you relaxed. You’re safe here, you can enjoy a long soak if you’d like.” He’s repeating things he’s already said to me, and I can’t help but wonder if he’s nervous to be left alone with me. I dutifully follow him down a long walkway until we enter the biggest bedroom I’ve ever seen. “This is my… our room. I hope it’s to your satisfaction.” The furniture is mismatched, but has a homey and inviting vibe. I hold back a chuckle when I realize that his bedspread has a giant wolf’s head on it. Upon closer inspection, I gasp when I realize that the picture is a close one to my very own wolf. “What is it, what’s wrong?” He turns around in the room, his claws come out, he looks ready for battle.
“Your wolf,” I say, pointing to the comforter. “It’s uncanny how much it resembles mine, Maverick.” He turns around, his head angles and a look of contemplation forms.
“I saw it about a month or so ago at the supermarket. It called to me and I couldn’t resist purchasing it. I immediately put it on my bed, I didn’t understand it at the time, but now it makes sense as to why.”
“Why?” I ponder the question out loud.
“Because the wolf part of me was needing his mate. My vampire wasn’t pleased, but it calmed me down, so he didn’t fight me too hard on it.”
“Do your two entities get along well with one another?” I ask.
“Not particularly.” He reaches up and scratches the back of his head.
“While I soak, would you tell me about them? Your wolf and vampire, I mean.”
“You uh… you
want me in the bathroom with you? While you’re naked?” His hands wave from my head to my feet. He seems so nervous and unsure; totally unlike the take-charge man who’s protected me since he got me down from that wall.
“Have you never seen a naked woman before, Maverick?” It’s meant to be a tease, but I’m shocked when he shakes his head no. “H-have you ever been with a woman before?”
His eyes close before he whispers, “Yes. But, never have I seen a woman’s skin bared. It was always a quick, mechanical release.” I don’t understand what he means exactly, and make a mental note to ask later, when my wolf is calmer.
“Okay, we really shouldn’t have this conversation, my wolf is growling at the thought of you being with others.” I can feel her clawing my insides with anger and agitation. She’s demanding we find them all and remove the threat from existence. The homicidal feelings she’s sharing with me causes a shiver to run up and down my spine.
“I don’t understand why, there’ll never be another from this point forward.” The poor fool, he just doesn't get the sort of possessiveness my wolf is feeling when it comes to him. Walking toward one of the closed doors, I’m hoping it’s the bathroom since it is placed in an area that makes the most sense for it to be.
Yes! I fist pump when the door opens and I see a glorious bathtub, big enough for several people, come into sight. Walking in, I bend over, plug it and begin filling it with hot water. “When I was sixteen, I lost my virginity to Bryan Donahue. It was sloppy at best, hurt like a motherfucker, but I have never been a quitter. So, when I was eighteen I let Malcolm James go down on me. It felt wonderful as his tongue brought me pleasure that I had never imagined I’d feel after the first sexual debacle.” My tone is light, almost anecdotal as I relay some of my past to him.
“Stop,” I hear growled from behind me. But, I don’t; it seems my man needs a lesson in love and war, and who better to show him the errors of his way other than me.
“Malcolm was an exquisite lover; he was a lot more experienced than I was. He taught me things that to this day makes my stomach quiver in need and desire.” I hear something break and look over my shoulder. I have to hide the smile as I notice that he’s pulled the door from its hinges and it’s broken in half. Turning back around, I continue, “he taught me the proper techniques for a blow job.” My body is spun around and my shirt is forcefully pulled from my body. Seems my wolf isn’t the only one jealous of past conquests.
