  “Railing about the legal profession?”

  “The same! Perhaps you’ve already read them, then.”

  “Mr. Snopes,” Edmund called from his office. “We will go over the count’s matter when you return, correct, sir?”

  William gazed out the window at the spring sunshine that warmed the office air. It was a day for Bach: music that was light, melodic, gallant. He felt the first tremors of a piece as he turned back to his junior.

  “Yes, Edmund. I can’t think of anything I’d like more.”

  Todd M. Johnson is the author of acclaimed novels Fatal Trust and Critical Reaction. He has practiced as an attorney for over thirty years, specializing as a trial lawyer. A graduate of Princeton University and the University of Minnesota Law School, Todd taught for two years as adjunct professor of international law and served as a U.S. diplomat in Hong Kong.
