Life Is Sweet

I was most of the way through my emails when Kayla woke up, groaning as she rolled over and fumbled around in bed. I glanced back at where her hand was reaching for something, and feeling impish, I took her hand.

She jolted at the touch, sitting upright and looking at me with wide eyes. “Oh,” she breathed. “Oh, wow. Oh. Hi, Melissa. Good morning. Oh my gosh.”

I suppressed a laugh. “Good morning, beautiful. How are you feeling?”

She swallowed. “I’m feeling really… really nice, thank you for asking. Wow. Wow…”

I raised an eyebrow. “Wow, what? Something up?”

Her blush spread bright across her cheeks. “My girlfriend is so pretty.”

I felt my heart throb. I was almost expecting her to backpedal in the morning, after the heat of the moment was over, but she was staring at me like I was everything to her. “Not to make it into a competition, but mine is a lot prettier.” I pulled her closer and leaned over the back of the chair to kiss her, my arms around her neck, pulling her in for a long, sweet kiss.

“You’re too nice,” she laughed after we parted. “You’re like a supermodel. I’m just a human lollipop.”

I bit my lip, looking her over. “I mean, I can think of some ways I’d like to use you like a lollipop…”

She stared for a second before she turned bright red. “Oh. Oh. You’re talking about… oh. That’s not what I meant.”

I laughed, turning back to my computer. “But it is what I meant. Only later, though. I’ve got work to do.”

I heard her shuffling out of bed behind me. “Coffee the same way as yesterday?”

I reached out automatically to take her hand. “Please,” I said, looking up at her. “And a kiss the same way, too.”

I got both. And luckily, they were both perfectly sweet.

There were a lot of tearful goodbyes when Kayla and I were heading back to the airport. Trish looked like she wanted to murder me and hug me in the same instant—maybe murder via hug, if she figured that one out—as she was the last one left hanging out by the rental car.

“You’d better keep in touch. And you’d better come back once the baby is born. And if you miss Christmas again this year, I’m going to… I’ll find a way to hurt you in a way you can’t even imagine.”

I raised an eyebrow. “I’m terrified, really.”

She looked over at Kayla, who was beaming bright enough to keep the whole galaxy warm. “I’ll tell your girlfriend how you used to wet the bed.”

“I’m quaking in my boots,” I said. “Didn’t you wet the bed once when you were eighteen?”

“Be quiet!” She waved me off. “Point is, don’t disappear for a year again!”

“I got you, I got you. I won’t.” I glanced down at Kayla, who was looking up at me like I was the whole world, and my heart sang at the sight. “I used to do it like once a week when I was tiny.”

“Oh, you can’t tell her, now there’s nothing I can tell her!” Trish yelled.

  “That’s pretty bad,” Kayla laughed.

“I was a pretty troublesome child.”

She rose onto her tiptoes a little to kiss me swiftly on the lips. “I think you still can be.”

“Oh, go make out at the airport. Mel…” Trish hung her head. “Thanks for coming. And for letting me meet Kayla. It’s been great.”

I laughed, pulling her and Kayla both into a hug. “It has,” I said, fully aware she didn’t know just how much I meant that.

The flight home felt a little different than the one here. For one, I could tease Kayla all I wanted now, so when the flight attendant asked if we wanted anything to drink, I said,

“Can we just get some sparkling water?” I put my hand on Kayla’s. “And some grapes.”

“Melissa,” Kayla said, covering her face and laughing.

“Some grapes?” the attendant said, taken off-guard.

“Yeah, some nice, picturesque grapes, like a Roman emperor would eat. Or be fed.”

We got our sparkling water, and some nice, picturesque grapes. I plucked one off the stem, looking over at Kayla, and licked my lips.

“I swear to god, Melissa,” she laughed, still covering her face, blushing an incandescent pink. I loved her blush. “Not in a crowded place like this.”

I shrugged, popped the grape in my mouth, and said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. Just looking at you while I eat, because you’re pretty.”

She let out a puff of air and looked pointedly out the window. “But, you know, once we’re home… it could certainly be an option.”

I’d have to consider that option.

We managed to land without embarrassing her too much further, which was a bit of a disappointment, but when we got back to my car, it felt nostalgic. Like all of it was a time long past, back before Kayla and I were together.

“Wow,” Kayla said when I let her into the car. “I almost forgot how fancy this thing is.”

I closed the door behind her and got in on my side, relaxing into the seat as I turned it on. “I could tell a lot of this old stuff slipped your mind. I didn’t get a single lesson from Kayla University while we were away.”

She stuck her tongue out. “It was a field trip for extra credit. And for the record, you got a lot of extra credit.”

“Oh, good. Maybe I can score above a hundred percent then.” I pulled out and onto the main road away from the airport, where the sun was setting and headlights started to come on around us. “How many points was the sex worth? You seemed to have some fun with that.”

She licked her lips. “It was… a lot. I’ll have to consult the rubric to tell you specifically.”

I was kind of trying to embarrass her. The fact that she licked her lips and half-lidded her eyes told me it went in a different direction. Not one I minded, though.

I checked the clock. I did have to get into the office and check in with David, but we hadn’t specified a time… he’d just said as soon as you’re back. While also scowling like he couldn’t believe I’d dare go see my family.

“Where am I taking you?” I said, keeping my voice light.

“I don’t know, you’re the one driving.” She got a silly smirk, and I looked over, raising an eyebrow. Two could play at that game.

“You just want to hand over control and let me do what I want? I didn’t think you’d be this submissive.”

She giggled into her hand. “You didn’t notice? How didn’t you?”

“Well, you know. When you’re me, everyone you get there tends to submit.”

“Oh, yeah?” She leaned back in her seat, looking confident. “And how many is that so far?”

That was a good one. But I had an answer. “Everyone in the world who matters.”

She let out a quiet laugh, but she flushed, looked out the window. “Are you, uh… busy tonight?”

I bit my lip. “I have a little time. Guess it depends on how slowly you want to take our first time as an item.”

“Our first time?” She put a hand to her chest. “Melissa, I was just talking about dinner.”

I didn’t take my eyes off the road. “You were not.”

“Okay, okay yeah I was talking about sex.” She leaned towards me and giggled. “Let’s go to my place. And let’s hope Shay isn’t there right now.”

“Too shy to tell her about your new girlfriend?”

“Not at all. I’m going to barge into the shop to relieve her after her shift tomorrow and shout about you loud enough I might break the jellybeans again. But for now, the only human interaction I’m looking for is you taking my clothes off.”

“That’s honestly the only interaction I’m looking for tonight, too,” I muttered. “But unfortunately, my boss likes to involve himself, and that’s a mood kill.”

Kayla’s place felt nostalgic too, and when Leonardo gave me a death glare through the side of his cage, I knew I owed him some answers for taking his mommy away for three w
hole days.

Kayla closed the door behind us, and she’d barely even locked it before she grabbed me by the hand, looking up into my eyes, biting her lip. “So,” she said, kicking her suitcase aside, reaching up and undoing the top button of her blouse.

I laughed, leaning her back into the door. “What, right here? With the bunny watching and everything?”

“He’s a bunny. He’s always horny. He wouldn’t hesitate a second to bang in front of me.” She bit down deeper on her lip, grinning up at me.

“I guess he won’t complain, either way.” I took her out of her blouse and took off her bra, pinning her against the door, and I lowered myself to her breasts, sucking on her nipple, teasing her other one with my fingers. She rolled her head back against the door and groaned.

“You’re not even gonna kiss me first?” she laughed breathlessly.

“I wanted some of this first,” I breathed. “And as far as I’m aware, right now your body belongs to me.”

“Oh, god yes. Say more of that kind of thing.”

I slipped up, away from her breasts, kissing the base of her neck, her jawline, and up to her mouth, pressing her back against the door and mashing my lips against hers, pinning her forearms behind her.

“You like being reminded you’re mine, huh,” I whispered, moving up to run my lips along her ear. “In that case, you’re going to take the rest of your clothes off, sit on the counter, and you’re going to let me put my tongue anywhere I want to.”

She went wide-eyed, her breathing slowing down, and she nodded as she slipped her skirt off, then her tights, dropping everything into a pile in front of the door until she was stark naked in front of me, every inch of smooth skin exposed.

“Counter,” I said. “After all, that is where I keep my meals.”

She bit her lip and stepped inside the kitchen, pushing herself up onto the counter, blushing furiously. I slipped out of my blazer, dropped it onto the floor, stepped in between her legs and pulled her into a sloppy wet kiss while I unbuttoned my blouse.

I couldn’t resist for long. “Watch me,” I ordered after I pulled away, putting my hands on her knees, working down her body, kissing along her abdomen down to the base. She was shuddering once I got down between her legs, where her wetness was pooling, and sure enough, she stared at me, her face flushed pink, one hand up to her mouth, as I ran my tongue slowly along her.

She shivered at the touch, rocking her hips and letting out a weak groan, planting her hand by her side. I licked my lips, grinning up at her as I took her in, heady scent and everything. “You’re going to make every sound that comes to you. You belong to me, so it doesn’t matter if you’re embarrassed.”

She gasped when I ran my tongue up her center again, and when I dipped slowly into her, she rolled her head back letting out a long groan. I stopped, pulling away.

“You can’t look away,” I said. “You’re going to watch the whole thing until I make you come.”

“Y-yes.” She nodded weakly, biting her lip as she looked back down, as I pressed myself back into her, slipping my tongue in deeper, exploring inside her, her taste overwhelming me. She twitched, shuddered, rolled her hips into me and groaned loudly, but she never broke eye contact.

I moved my hand up to her center and ran my fingertips around her clit, encircling in tighter. She gasped louder, muffled a cry into her hand, and she wrapped her legs around me as I moved my tongue inside her, pushed her further towards the edge. Pushed her until she was shaking so hard I had to hold onto her to keep her pressed into my mouth.

She started crying my name, breaking over the syllables, but she still didn’t break eye contact. Still stayed like that, staring down into me as I drove her over the edge.

She was good and obedient. I liked that.

She let out a gasp that turned into a long moan when I pushed her into orgasm, clasping her hands down on my head, collapsing onto me and crying out. Her fingers dug into my scalp, and I felt her whole body shudder hard against me, once, twice before it ended, leaving her gasping for breath, still clutching to me like I was life.

I pulled away from her, licked my lips, and grinned. “You’re good at following orders,” I said.

“Oh my god you’re incredible,” she whispered, squeezing words in between gasping breaths.

“Now,” I said, standing up, using a hand on her thigh for support, “you’re going to take me to your bedroom and make me orgasm in your bed.”

She swallowed hard and nodded, clutching at her chest. “I… yes. Anything you ask.”

This was a pretty good arrangement.

  Chapter 16

  Kayla

“Shay!” I shouted, running into the shop. Of course, there were no customers here, but that was fine! I needed to talk to the attendant anyway.

Shay looked up from where she sat behind the counter, smirking at me. “Oh, you’re back. How was Georgia?”

I clasped my hands under my chin, sighing so hard I’m surprised I didn’t collapse from using up that much air. “Oh, it was so beautiful. It was this gorgeous place out in the countryside, and it was so idyllic. The prettiest place. You have no idea.”

She leaned over the counter, laying her elbows on the surface and propping her chin up on her hands. “And you and Melissa?”

I felt my temperature rise by about double. “Oh my goodness. I… we…”

  “You got toge—”

“We got together!” I clapped, laughed, spun around and just felt my skirt flaring out, my arms out, laughing until I was red in the face. “Oh my god we got together she likes me—”

“Of course you did,” Shay said, like this wasn’t the absolute most amazing thing ever. “Congratulations. When are we up for karaoke again?”

“Oh! Double date?” I grinned. “Yes, yes, yes. I want to go around to everyone in the city and show my beautiful girlfriend off.”

“You do realize how obvious it’s been to the rest of us how much you two both like each other.”

I slammed my hands down on the counter. She didn’t even flinch. “Then why didn’t you tell me!?”

  She blinked. “I did, Kay.”

“Oh my gosh, you did.” I giggled, spinning around another few times until I was too dizzy to stand up anymore, and I collapsed against the counter, laughing breathlessly. “Oh my god oh my god she’s so perfect. She’s so perfect. You have no idea how perfect she is.”

“I have no idea what took you two so long.”

“Oh, you know. She’s so busy she didn’t think she had space for a girlfriend in her life.” I sighed. “And it’s true it’s going to be hard waiting for time with her, and I’m going to always be wishing I could have more time with her, but… wow. She’s amazing. Mmmm.” I hugged myself, swaying. “You should see what she does to me. Ugh. I mean, not actually see it, that’d be weird.”

Shay sighed. “My boss is telling me about her sex life.”

“Oh, c’mon! We’ve been friends for a hundred years before this!”

She raised an eyebrow. “Six, but who’s counting. Are you going to clock in, or what?”

“Oh my god. Yeah, I guess I should. I’m going to go laughing and spinning in front of every customer who comes in. I guess it’ll be a good look.” I giggled.

“Just don’t go telling customers about the things she does to you.”

I put a hand over my face. “She’s so dominant.”

“I did not ask, and I was not planning on it.”

“Oh, c’mon. You’re gay too, don’t you want to know all about it?”

She spun the POS around for me to clock in. “I’m very satisfied with Freja. That’s all I’m going to say.”

I couldn’t believe this woman was going to find out about my incredible sexy girlfriend and just tell me to clock in, but knowing Shay for a hundred years now, I guess I could believe it. I clocked in, mistyping my ID twice with how much my hands were still shaking thinking about last night. About being controlled, ordered to do what s
he wanted. It sent shudders through me.

“Congratulations on your sugar mommy,” she said, clocking out. “Tell me when the karaoke’s for, I’ll try and get Freja on board.”

“Yes! And we have to hang out after work so I can tell you everything.”

“Everything where your clothes were on. Yes, let’s.”

That was such a boring stipulation. But I’d take what I could get.

I enjoyed my shift, so much restless energy in my body I was bouncing around from one place to another, tidying up everything, adjusting pictures on the wall and then adjusting them back when I realized they’d already been level. Counting back stock again. Testing candies to make sure they tasted good. That one was normal.

I could tell I scared a few of my customers with the way my attitude, which I was normally turning up to a hundred ten percent, was about a three hundred percent today. But sales were good, relatively speaking. I sold some candy. I made some money. It was a good day.

That was until Jacob came in.

I spun at the sound of the doorbell ready to deliver all the enthusiasm in the world, and when I saw his face, it felt like a wire in me had gotten cut. I sank.

“Jacob,” I said, my voice small. “I told you you’re not welcome here.”

He took a few long strides over to me, his dark eyes fixed on me, and I…

  I felt fine.

I wasn’t expecting that. After the initial shock, I felt perfectly fine. I didn’t need to get messed up over this. I couldn’t. I had a girlfriend now. And she was the most incredible person in the world.

“I’m here to follow up on the invitation,” he said. “I hear you were out of state. I was hoping you made a decision, you and your… girlfriend.”

I crossed my arms. “Having a reason for coming here doesn’t mean suddenly you’re allowed here. But you know, sure. Melissa said she’d go with me, and I wanted to at least get some closure with my dad. So you twisted my arm. I’ll go. Give me the time and place and get your butt out of here.”
