Baby Be Mine

“I can’t say I understand,” Mr. Brighton said, “but I can see that you want this, and that makes me happy. I was surprised at your change of heart though. You’ve always been so independent.”

“Dad,” Marissa said softly. “I’m still independent, but I know that my future is in God’s hands, and that has given me confidence that I never had.”

Mr. Brighton nodded taking his daughter’s word as he started down the aisle to give her to this strange man who had not only helped her find her way in a difficult time, but who had made her so happy.

“Whose turn is it?” Marissa asked rolling over as the sound of her daughter’s disgruntled cries echoed down the hall.

“I’ll get her,” Trace said sliding out of bed and padding down the hall on bare feet.

Marissa smiled sleepily, liking the way her cowboy looked in his underwear and an old T-shirt.

They had been remarried for nearly three months now and she had settled into her new life in Wyoming.

Transitioning from her maternity leave to moving to another state had been hard, but she was thrilled to have a home and family of her own.

Not only was she looking for a teaching position at a local school for next fall, she was also helping Daisy at the center working with younger women who had little education or training.

She understood so much more about love than she had before. God’s will had been unfolding for her, and she felt his presence in every aspect of her life.

For the moment she, Trace, and Ashley were staying in the small apartment Trace had before they had wed, but they were considering a house of their own.

“Here you go,” Trace said handing off the little girl who burrowed into her mother’s arms. “She’s ready for her midnight feeding.” Trace finished, climbing back into bed snuggling in close to his wife.

“She’ll have to start sleeping through the night soon,” Marissa said. “When summer is over, she’ll be staying with Daisy while I work.”

“Are you sure you want to go back?” Trace asked. “You don’t have to you know.”

“I know,” Marissa said. “I’ve been thinking about taking a couple of years off, but I think for now we need the money.”

“I’m selling off a piece of land in Biders Clump,” Trace said as Marissa took care of the baby’s needs. “It will go a ways,”

“Are you sure?” Marissa asked. “I’m not sure I’ll know what to do if I don’t teach.”

Trace pushed a strand of Marissa’s dark hair behind her ear watching her smile at the familiar gesture. “You do whatever you want,” he said. “I want you to be happy, and I know how much you care about teaching.”

Marissa nodded, leaning into him and stealing a kiss. “I don’t know what I ever did to deserve you,” she said her heart full of peace and joy.

“I guess you turned up at just the right time,” Trace said kissing her back.

Life had not gone the way he expected it to, but he was sure glad he’d been standing near that fence at the right time.

  About the Author

Danni Roan, a native of western Pennsylvania, spent her childhood roaming the lush green mountains on horseback. She has always loved westerns and specifically western romance and is thrilled to be part of this exciting genre. She has lived and worked overseas with her husband and tries to incorporate the unique quality of the people she has met throughout the years into her books. Although Danni is a relatively new author on the scene, she has been a story teller for her entire life, even causing her mother to remark that as a child “If she told a story, she had to tell the whole story.” Danni is truly excited about this new adventure in writing and hopes that you will enjoy reading her stories as much as she enjoys writing them.
