Seed- Part Two

Page 26

by D B Nielsen

‘–three ... two ... one ... HAPPY NEW YEAR!’ Around the museum, revellers exchanged hugs, kisses and felicitations.

St. John bent his head down to mine to kiss me, his lips tasting sweetly of champagne. I immediately melted into him, feeling the pounding of my heart in rhythm with his.

As he drew back, St. John whispered, ‘Look up, Sage!’

Dazedly, I looked up, gazing out beyond the glass ceiling of the Great Court at the fireworks overhead. The crowd was cheering at each successive explosion; each starlit burst more dazzling than the one before.

As my arms tightened around St. John, I watched fireworks exploding in a shower of colourful sparks – bright cyanotic blue, blood red and golden streaks.

But they reminded me too much of Elijah’s imposed vision of the Fall of the Grigori.

As I continued to watch the fireworks light up the night sky, streaming down like lightning bolts of blue flame, ribbons of golden fire unfurling, I gave a slight shiver within the circle of St. John’s embrace. Like Romeo, I felt the hand of fate bear down upon me and could not “shake the yoke of inauspicious stars”, seeing them fall one by one, falling from the heavens, tumbling to earth like fallen angels.

‘Happy New Year, Sage,’ St. John murmured.

And the face of a golden god, jade green eyes burning with such intensity, blotted out the falling fireworks which illuminated the night sky and the great glass ceiling, hiding them from my vision, as his lips met mine.

  Praise for SEED

'You know that thrill when you discover an author whose every word draws you in and you cannot put the book down? This is one such book and this is one such author. I absolutely adored SEED. I did not want to part from it, did not want it to end.’

Renita D’Silva author of Monsoon Memories

‘I stayed up until very very late one night reading this novel. Very difficult to put down once you're immersed, the pages just keep on turning... This author knows how to weave a spell with words, how to pull you into the world she's created and make it real.’

  H Chim

‘As an avid reader I'm fairly particular about certain genres, but Seed has it all; Angels, Nephilim, Religion, History, language, Romance & Suspense. ... WARNING: make sure you're well-rested with plenty of portable food & drink at hand AND nothing in your agenda but time to read.’

  Acknowledgments

To the many archaeologists, historians and curators whose preservation of artefacts, artworks and monuments has made my digging into the past much easier, I owe a special thank you. Any mistakes within these pages remain, unfortunately, my own.

Big thanks to all my friends and fans for becoming my ‘beta group’ – with particular thanks to Cindy, Qim, Chris, and Timothy – emotionally and editorially your support has been invaluable.

My gratitude and appreciation to Lorella Belli for the insightful advice, kindness and conviction, checking the manuscript, much laughter, and for loving my novel almost as much as I do.

Lastly, but most of all, thanks and love to my family for all the support, the continual encouragement and commitment to the dream – in particular to Alain for his act of faith and tireless enthusiasm (for all the above and everything else besides).
