Mika tossed a sealed vial into the ocean. “Corbin, your eyrie is still willing to house us all?”
“For you? Always, dove.”
“All right let’s pack up and go. I want nothing left for them to take or find by the time the sun is fully risen.”
Samhain was over. The new year had officially started.
“Whoever wants to stay, can,” Mika told them. “They will be looking for me, not you.”
Both Audrey and Malachi’s eyes hardened, the ones with the most to lose.
“Unless this place falls, I can always come back,” Audrey said. “I’m sure I can learn whatever I want to, wherever I want to. So, I’m staying with you.”
“So am I.” Malachi crossed his arms over his chest. “I’ll find another way to pay for my certification when the time comes.”
Mika stared at them for a moment, making sure they truly wanted this. Then she looked to Lucien who had hidden who he was, who had risked everything to come here. And then exposed himself for her.
The fox shrugged, smiling slightly. “They know what I am now.”
“The petition was approved by the dean.” Mika searched those golden eyes. “You can stay as a fox.”
“And miss all the fun?” Lucien snorted. “Yeah, I don’t think so.”
Corbin chuckled and Dagon huffed a laugh.
The raven nudged the hellhound. “I could probably get you into the eyrie too if you want.”
Mika’s lips twitched as she hid her smile. Corbin really liked this hellhound.
“I will need a replacement first,” Dagon said slowly. “But I will put in a request with the prince.”
“How pissed is he?” Audrey asked. “Maybe you should go through Jessica.”
“Probably a good idea,” Ethan agreed. “He looked super pissed.”
What she’d done tonight…
It would haunt her. It would make them call her a monster. They would try to take her down, take her out – anything and everything to foolishly try and stop the change that was coming.
But what she’d done, it was to protect this, her people. It was to save these moments they had together and any possible future they might have as a family.
And she would never regret that.
“Whoever packs the fastest gets to ride a blood beast,” Mika told them, holding out the ruby. “Ready?”
“Holy shit, yes,” Audrey screeched. “Ready.”
They all grinned at her and Mika grinned right back.
“Last one done is a rotten egg.”
