“Well, then you best invite me in, sis. Cause I got a whopper for you.”

  To the grave my ass.

  Chapter 28

  Emma

“How do you feel today?” I whisper in his ear, lightly running circles with the tip of my finger over his chest.

“Numb. Exhausted. Pissed. Anxious. Take your pick, Em, because I have no idea how I feel.”

“It’s perfectly normal to be overwhelmed. It’s a lot to take in all at once.”

He lets out a deep exhale before rolling me over on the bed, pinning my arms down above my head.

“Let’s just leave. Go away someplace where we can forget that Asheville even exists.”

“Is that really what you want, Colt? Leave Lincoln when he needs you the most?”

His head falls to my chest, releasing his grip on me.

  “No.” He huffs out.

“I didn’t think so,” I retort, playing with his hair. “Are you going to confront your parents?”

“I promised Lincoln I wouldn’t. He wants to talk to Scarlett first so they can combine forces and do it together.”

“Hmm. I have to say that even though this must be painful for all of you, it is nice that neither Lincoln nor Scarlett will feel so alone anymore. Now they have a family to fall back on.”

“They always had a family, Em. Being blood doesn’t change anything.”

“You know what I mean. With Lincoln losing his parents so viciously this year and Scarlett being an orphan for most of her life, finding out you have siblings is comforting. They have each other now. They have you. It can be very lonely when you don’t have a family to call your own.”

He tilts his head up, his emerald jewels glistening with love.

“Is that how you felt? When you lost your parents, and then your grandfather? Alone?”

I nod. “But I don’t feel that way anymore. I have you. You’re my family now.”

The words have barely left my mouth when I feel the swell of his cock hardening against me.

“Anytime you say romantic shit like that, you get me hard, woman,” he growls.

  “I can tell,” I snicker.

The wolfish grin that springs to life is the only warning I have that he’s about to ravish me. His eyes go to the robe on the floor before leaning over the bed and grabbing its tie.

  “What’s that for?”

“You’ll see.” He licks his lips seductively.

He pins my arms once more above my head, lacing my wrists together with the satin tie. He then knots it on the bedpost, turning me sideways to ensure I’m comfortable.

“Mr. Turner, if you’re going to fuck me, I suggest you get to it,” I tease, squirming under him impatiently.

The spark of deviousness in his stare has me wet and wanting for his touch. Bound this way, I’m completely at his mercy, anxiously anticipating as he owns every part of me—body, heart, and soul.

“Colt,” I beg when his tongue begins to trail down my body.

“So impatient, professor.” He tsks teasingly, his teeth scraping against my sensitive nipple. When he lightly bites my breast, my legs wrap themselves around his hips, desperate to have him possess me. He grabs my thighs, forcing them wide open, his head getting lost in between them. Colt fucks me with his mouth, making sure I cum on his tongue at least once before he has his way with me. I shout out his name when he succeeds in his mission, needing to touch him and frustrated that I can’t.

“Colt,” I beg pleadingly, tugging at my binding.

“Not yet. Only after I’m done with you.”

In one fell swoop, he turns me over, grabbing my hips so that my ass is up in the air, and I’m left kneeling on the bed, the position leaving me completely at his mercy. When his tongue begins to play with my puckered hole while he gently rubs my clit, I feel like I’m going to pass out with the myriad of sensations he’s inflicting on me. I bite my pillow to keep me from screaming, but Colt doesn’t like that. He pulls at my hair, commanding my head back so that he can hear all my wails of ecstasy.

“I want to hear you scream out my name, professor. Let this whole damn apartment building hear you cry out who owns this pussy.”

His dirty words, added with the forbidding kinkery of our foreplay, have me bending to his will, panting out unashamedly how much I need him to fuck me. Hearing my call, and with one strong hand gripping my waist and another pulling my hair back, he thrusts deep inside of me, giving me exactly what I want.

“Argh!” I cry out when all of him stretches me.

He ruthlessly pounds into my pussy, as his thumb plays with my puckered hole, only heightening my arousal.

“One day, I’ll own all of you. Your mind. Your mouth. Your entire body. I won’t rest until all of you belongs to me.”

I want to tell him he already does. That my heart and soul has his name branded to them, but words fail me. All I can do is call out his name as he continues to push me closer to the edge.

“That’s it, Em. Fuck. That’s it,” he praises, my core clenching around his cock.

My eyes roll to the back of my head, finally succumbing to his forceful domination. My brain short circuits as the steamroller orgasm rips me apart, shattering reality and replacing it with nothing but white light.

“Fuck, I love you, Em!” he wails, cumming inside me.

I’m still in a post-orgasmic daze when he unties me, pressing butterfly kisses on my wrist before settling my body against his.

“I wish we could stay in bed all day,” I whisper, hugging him to me.

  “And why can’t we?”

  I sigh, saddened.

“I got an email from the dean asking me to meet him at Richfield this afternoon.”

“What the hell does that fucker want? School doesn’t start for a few more days.”

“I’m sure it’s nothing, but I still have to go.”

“I don’t like it.” He tightens his hold on me possessively.

“It’s my job, Colt. Besides, there are a few things I need to do back at the school anyway.”

“Fine.” He lets out a defeated exhale. “I’ll drive you there and then go check on Lincoln to see how he’s coping after yesterday’s shitshow. Text me when you’re through with the prick, and I’ll pick you up.”

  “Sounds like a plan.”

Colt lifts my chin from his chest to give me a kiss, the look of adoration in his eyes making my heart soar into the heavens.

  “Go take a shower, Em.”

  “You’re not coming?”

“I’ll make some breakfast for when you get out. I was a little rough with you just now. If I have a shower with you, then I can’t promise I won’t fuck you against the wall just as hard.”

  “I don’t mind.” I flirt.

He laughs and plants another kiss on my lips.

“Go before you change my mind.”

He slaps my ass before getting up from the bed. Still chuckling, he pulls on his boxers and heads to the kitchen. I lie in bed a while longer, thinking of excuses I can come up with to give the dean so that I don’t have to show up today and just stay here in our little bubble. I pick up my phone to look at my calendar to check what time he scheduled our meeting when something else grabs my attention.

  One.

  Two.

  Three.

  Four.

  Shit. Shit. Shit!

  Five!

I’m five days late. My period is never this late. This must be a mistake. I count the days again, going back to last month to see if my calculations are wrong. But no, it’s there in black and white. Wrapping a sheet over my body, I rush to the bathroom, opening up my medicine cabinet.

  Shit!

I missed a few pills this month.

With everything happening with my research on The Society and Colt, it must have slipped my mind entirely. I close the cabinet and slowly walk out of my room, scolding myself for my reckless behavior and worried about how Colt will talk the news. Rather than being in the kitchen
as I expected him to be, Colt is standing in front of my living room window.

“Colt,” I stutter. “I have to tell you something.”

  But he doesn’t turn around.

“Colt, this is serious. I’m late. My period is five days late.”

And though there is panic in my voice, he still doesn’t face me. I walk over to him, entwining my fingers with his.

“Colt, did you hear me?” I ask worriedly since he doesn’t move an inch.

I squeeze his hand for a reaction, apprehension settling in my gut that something is very wrong here. Finally, he turns his attention from the window and onto me.

  “Colt?”

  “It’s snowing.”

“You’re firing me?!” I blurt out.

“What did you expect me to do after you paraded yourself with your student at the Richfield party? You’re a bright woman, Emma. You knew the stakes and the repercussions that would occur after making such a reckless decision. Don’t tell me this comes as a surprise to you.”

“Of course it does! There was no forewarning or disciplinary action done against me. You can’t just fire me like this.”

“I can, and I will. Since it wouldn’t be fair on your students that you leave midterm, you’ll finish the school year as stipulated in your contract. That way, you can save face and say that you left because there wasn’t a vacancy for us to keep you any longer. We both know once rumors surface that you’re screwing around with one of your students, it will be harder for you to gain employment elsewhere. Consider this a blessing that I’m being so benevolent with you and not have you removed from the premises today.” Rage bubbles beneath my skin as his eyes lustfully skate over my body, even as his expression deems me to be nothing but trash. “As far as I see it, you should be thanking me.”

“Thanking you? Is that what I should do? Tell me, Montgomery, how would you like me to thank you for this act of mercy to my reputation? Would you like me to fall to my knees? Is that the thanks you had in mind?”

“If you opened your legs for that spoiled asshole, then opening your mouth for me shouldn’t be too difficult for you.”

  I spit at his feet.

  “You disgust me.”

He rushes at me, his hand gripping my jaw.

“No! You disgust me. What did I ever see in a slut like you?”

“You saw what I wanted you to see. Now get your filthy hands off me before I sue you for harassment!”

“Like anyone would believe you.” He smirks.

“I can think of one person who would. The same one that can snap his fingers and have you tossed on the street just as easily as you’re trying to do with me.”

His nails sink into my skin. I keep my eyes deadlocked on his so he knows I’m the last woman he should be fucking with.

“I won’t say it again, Montgomery. Get your hands off me!”

But instead of doing what he’s told, his grip only gets stronger as he pushes me against my desk, opening my legs with his knee.

“You’ll pay for that.” He grunts.

I don’t think. I just react. I bite into his neck, my teeth piercing his flesh, and once his hold slightly loosens, I knee him as hard as I can to his already stiff cock. Montgomery falls to his knees, wailing and groaning like the little bitch he is.

“You bitch! Get the hell out of my school! You’ll never work as a teacher again! I’ll make sure of it!”

I sneer, bending down to his ear and gripping his dirty blond hair so he can look me in the eye.

“You’re wrong. I’m going to keep my job. You, on the other hand, have your days numbered. You messed with the wrong woman, Montgomery.”

Before I stand up, I elbow him in his spine, leaving him on all fours in my office. I grab my handbag and rush out of there. I might be overselling my threat that he’s out of a job, but when Colt finds out he put his hands on me, he’ll pray that his prestigious career is all he loses.

I grab my phone from my purse to call Colt to pick me up, but by the way my hand can’t stop trembling, I reconsider. I need to be calm when I tell him what happened just now. If he sees how rattled I am, he’ll go off the deep end. No. I have to have my wits about me so I can protect Colt from his temper. I head to my classroom to buy some time to cool off when another Ryland surprises.

“Kennedy? What are you doing here?”

“Professor Harper?” she says, surprised as if she weren’t expecting my arrival.

“Is there something I can do for you?”

She wrinkles her nose, her eyes going through the room like she’s looking for something.

“As a matter of fact, yes,” she proclaims, straightening her spine and lifting her chin all business-like.

“Oh?” I ask, puzzled since I’m still trying to figure out how she knew I’d be here to begin with.

“Colt told me where to find you,” she states, answering my unspoken question. “I thought we might have a little talk, us girls.”

  “Us, girls?”

“Yes,” she confirms, the unreadable expression on her face giving me pause.

“Colt tells me you might be pregnant.”

“He did, did he?” I grind my teeth.

I really do need to have a talk with Colt about keeping our private business private.

“Yes. I didn’t realize you two were so serious.”

By the way she is taking my measurements from head to toe, I get the feeling she’s not on board with our relationship. From the looks of it, my day is going to be filled with Ryland assholes. Good thing I’m fully prepared to put them in their place.

“We are. However, I don’t see why that should concern you.”

“Right. I guess you wouldn’t, but it does. I grew up with Colt all my life. He’s what you would call my annoying older brother in a sense.”

  “Colt has enough siblings.”

  More than you know.

“Doesn’t change the fact he’s still my family. And we protect our own.”

“If I didn’t know any better, that sounds vaguely like a threat, Miss Ryland. If that was your intention, I have to warn you I don’t do well with threats.”

  Just ask your father.

“Please, Emma. You can call me Kennedy. And no, I’m not threatening you. I just want to make sure your intentions with Colt are noble. However, if this baby is somehow the way you found to trap him, or if you don’t care for him as he does you, then yes, it is a threat.”

I place my bag on top of my desk and sit on its edge. Crossing my arms over my chest, I stare at the girl who thinks she can intimidate me.

“What some people consider to be actions based on wanting to protect their friends, others might call it a toxic state of possessiveness. Immature jealousy or even envy of what they can never have.”

She tilts her head back and laughs, sending a chill down my spine.

“You were always my favorite teacher, Emma. It’ll be fun having you around,” she singsongs and then waltzes out of the classroom with a spring to her step.

That family is one creepy nut job after another.

Thankfully Kennedy’s little visit was enough to take my mind off what happened in the office with her father. Feeling calmer, I text Colt that I’m done for the day and that he can come to pick me up. Since I’m not sure if I’ll have a job here anymore, I gather up my few belongings to take with me just in case.

With a few books and binders in my hands, I leave the classroom and head to the parking lot. The Hamilton Estate isn’t far, so he shouldn’t be long. Though it’s chilly with the new batch of snow that fell throughout the night, the crisp air will do me some good to keep my temper in check.

When I get to the steep steps that lead to the building’s ground floor, I kick myself for my brilliant idea of bringing all this stuff with me. Forgoing holding onto the rail, I send out a silent prayer that I don’t lose my balance and break my neck just because of a few school books.

I’m on the second step when suddenly I fee
l a shadow behind me. Before I have time to look around, two strong hands press on my back, pushing me into the air.

  After that, everything happens quickly.

A loud cry leaves my lips as my body drops down the flight of stairs.

And as I’m about to hit the floor, knowing I’m seconds away from my head slamming into the stone ground, I think of Colt’s emerald eyes and how I might never see them again.

Before everything around me fades to black, the last thing I see is a shadow of a silhouette and a wisp of blond hair blowing in the wind.

  Chapter 29

  Colt

“Looks like you two had fun,” I smirk, walking into Linc’s kitchen and finding Kennedy sitting on the kitchen island eating cereal out of the box in nothing but my cousin’s T-shirt.

  Shit, not cousin.

  Brother.

It’s going to take some time to get used to this.

“I… um… I’ll leave you boys to talk. I’m going to grab a quick shower and get changed,” Kennedy responds timidly, jumping off the countertop.

Before she can get very far, Lincoln pulls Ken by the waist, spinning her around in his arms and laying one dirty kiss on her. I avert my eyes to the ceiling because no one wants to see their brother make out with a girl who is like a kid sister to them.

When the two horny assholes don’t break apart, I clear my throat to remind them I’m still here. Ken’s hooded stare remains on Lincoln as he whispers something in her ear after their kiss. When her cheeks blush and his eyes fall to her lips again, I don’t need to be a mind reader to know they still have sex on the brain. The smoldering look they give each other makes me wish I was still in bed with Emma and getting the same service, rather than having to watch them go at it.

“Ken, you said something about taking a shower, remember?”

“Right.” She grins widely, pulling away from Lincoln’s embrace and skipping out of the kitchen.

“And make it a cold one, Ryland!” I yell mockingly.

“Bite me, Turner!” she sings playfully from outside the kitchen.

“You sure didn’t waste any time.” I laugh, punching Linc on his bare shoulder.
