The Rescue!

“Listen. The whole thing’s a mess anyway. And it’s probably my fault. If I hadn’t had mistaken you for her in the first place, you never would have thought you were Aurelia…,” he breaks off.
I shake my head, sadly. “But it wasn’t just you, was it? It was all of them. They believed it too… I know she was away for a long time, but…,” I drift off.
“I guess we’re similar…,” I concede. Adam fixes me his honeyed beam;
“Nah, you’re way sexier…,” he says, with an exaggerated flourish. “I’m not even lying. I don’t know who that other girl is anymore, and I don’t even care. The only thing that interests me now is me and you… so what do you say…Will you let me come with you, wherever it is you’re heading to?”
His question hangs in the air, as the train goes through a tunnel, shaking to and fro with dramatic lights. I close my eyes and can feel his eyes bore into mine, as the station lights flash in and out of view. It is like my own personal meteor storm.
“Do you even know where this train goes to?” he says, his voice drifting softly over the harsh sounds of the rails.
I shake my head and smile. Then, I press my hands deep into his eyes, look at him and sigh.
My head falls against the tender curve of his neck. That is it, I am here already; I am home…
I don’t even need to know where this train is going, all I know is that I am going with him.
