“What you’re telling me is that I’d have a full-time job here at West Side Magick and I’d be free to keep working with you and Ronan on your cold cases?”
“That’s it in a nutshell,” Tennyson agreed.
“This is the salary.” Carson pushed a piece of paper across the table. “Of course, we’ll pay any expenses you itemize.”
“Within reason, Jude.” Cole laughed.
Cope glanced at the paper before passing it to Jude. The money was irrelevant to him. All that mattered was settling in to a new life.
“What do you think?” Jude whispered. “Can we work together?”
“Well, we were a pretty good team on the Fontenot case and we’re doing well as roommates.” Cope was trying to play it cool, not wanting to overplay his hand.
“True. You’re going to need a car,” Jude pointed out
“And you’re going to need rent,” Cope added.
Jude shrugged as if he hadn’t considered that before Cope said it. “What’s your answer? I didn’t hear a yes or a no in there.”
“I didn’t exactly hear a yes or a no from you either,” Cope shot back.
“Okay, on the count of three we’ll both give our answer. Ready?”
Cope nodded. He could do this and if Jude didn’t give the same answer, well then, the chips would just fall where they may.
“One…Two…Three…,” Jude counted.
“Yes!” Both men answered.
“Well thank, God.” Carson rolled his eyes.
Tennyson pushed a manila folder across the table. “We thought this was the most interesting case out of all of the ones that have been submitted to us so far. Welcome to West Side Magick!”
Turning to Jude, Cope could see the smile on his face was a mile wide. He put out a hand to shake. “Partners.”
Jude took his hand, shaking it firmly. “Partners.”
