Never Love a Hitman (The Carlotta Family Book 1)
Page 3
Lorna is a gossiping woman who will take anything you say and spin it to her way. But, I love her no matter what. One time, she really screwed me over in front of Amanda by telling her that she was my fiance.
In all actuality, Lorna is my annoying older sister. Older than me by two minutes but she won’t let you forget that acting like the two minutes is a lifetime more experience than I have on this earth.
“Business. You’re lame. You mean to tell me that there’s not one girl you’ve met that you’re considering?”
“I’m not gay, Lorna! I’m a man. Of course I see a bunch of women in bikinis. Just because I’m not tearing through them doesn’t mean anything.”
She groans. “You sound like an old married man.”
“Why did you call?”
“I worry about you… This is always a hard week for you and I wanted to make sure you were okay.”
“Yeah, thanks.” I hang up before she can say anything more. I don’t need to have my date consumed with thoughts of Amanda. My nightmares still have her starring in them and even my daytime nightmares have her as well. I don’t need any reminders about Amanda.
After getting ready for the day, I scan the computer systems to make sure the area is safe. I want to show Calista a great time but I also want to make sure it’s safe here.
I’m going to spend the next couple of days making sure that Calista has the time of her life without knowing who I am. Is it wrong for me not to tell her my profession? Technically, I do own a sanitation business… so I’m not lying if she asks me.
I already know that she’s a doctor who’s in her first year at the local hospital in her small town she lives in. What I don’t know is who her parents are. My search came up empty. Which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it.
I’m feeling good as I slide my gun into the back of my pants in case I need it while we’re out. I know Calista’s going to love what I have planned and I can’t wait to show her. Plus, I’m kind of enjoying the romancing thing. It’s been such a long time since I got to romance a woman.
I grab my phone and the room key before slipping out the front door of my hotel suite and imagine my surprise when I run into the sweet smelling woman who has become the object of my obsession.
Calista
“Calista?”
That honey voice of his makes me hyper aware of how close he is to me. I couldn’t help it but I thought of him all night last night. I dreamt of what it would be like to be with him in bed. I couldn’t help it.
“Victor?” I ask stupidly. Of course, I know it’s him but the way he said my name was almost out of disbelief. I mean how could I have forgotten about this sexy man over the course of eight hours? Plus, it would be like forgetting the reason why I had my hand down my panties for the better part of the night.
“Well, isn’t this a surprise.”
Since he’s coming out of a room, I could only assume one thing and that is he has a room on the same floor as me. “Tell me about it. You have a room on the same floor as me?”
He smirks. Crossing the hall towards me, he stops and leans in to kiss my cheek. “Pussycat, that’s what you want to use your question for?”
I hiss. “You’d cost me a question?”
“I’ll give it to you for free. Yes, that’s my room. Are you ready for breakfast?”
Nodding my head, I let him place his hand on the small of my back so we can go to the cafe on the first floor. I’m not surprised to see it full but I’m more surprised with the amount of women looking at Victor with want and need. They are doing it so openly I feel the urge to make my presence known.
I reach around Victor and place my hand on his back. Even his back is sexy! What the hell! He’s curious as he looks down at me but he doesn’t say anything. Which is good… I would hate to tell this gorgeous man I’m jealous of these newlywed women staring at him as if he’s a piece of chocolate.
Trust me, I’m well aware that I have no claims on but that doesn’t stop me from trying to get claims on him.
We’re seated and I feel uneasy about being here with him. I have so many questions to ask because I want to get to know him but I don’t want to “waste” any questions asking him something he won’t answer. This game sucks.
“What are you thinking so strongly about?” He asks me while taking a sip of the coffee in front of him.
Following his lead, I take a drink of my coffee then make a face. It’s too strong for me. Leaning over the table, I grab the sugar caddy and creamer to go about making my coffee. Pulling out four sugars and shaking the little packages to make sure all the grainuals are where they are supposed to be, I rip the package open and pour the sugar into my coffee. Then I dump two creamers into it before stirring it up. “I’m thinking your game kind of sucks.”
Victor chuckles. “You must have a sweet tooth.”
“Oh yeah! I’m a teenage boy trapped in a girl’s body. I could live on pizza and sweets and die a happy woman.”
“And what a body you have.”

“Have you ever been on a helicopter ride?”
Nodding, I look at the tarmac which is being used by a couple of helicopters. “Yeah, I did as a kid. My dad and mom were big travelers.” That’s when it hits me! “Doesn’t that count as a question?”
“You are a smart ass. I like that, pussycat.”
Victor reaches over me with his other hand and turns us so I’m in his grasp. “Pussycat, did I tell you how beautiful you look today?”
I blush all the way through my body. The man makes me quiver. I can’t help it. And just like that- all my insecurities fade.
Looking at the helicopter idling in front of us, I gush. “You are going to take us on this?” The little girl who dreamed of fairytales inside me is doing cartwheels. Holy hell! This is the most romantic date ever.
Victor walks us towards the helicopter when a busty woman comes strolling out. “Mr. Bruno, we’ve been expecting you.”
The curvy woman appears with blonde hair in a tight bun and a slutty suit. I hate her on sight with her tits popping out of her button down shirt and heels clacking on the tarmac. Her red lips that are perfectly puckered at Victor is making me feel really stabby.
She makes a move to shake his hand but he doesn’t reciprocate. “Did you get our flight plan taken care of?” His voice is firm leaving no room for an argument.
The man makes me wet with desire with his sexy timbre of a voice.
“Yes,” Miss Skank says and stares me down. “You’re all set.”
I wanted to tell her to cool herself down because she reeks of desperation. But I don’t. I don’t want Victor to think I’m crazy or something even though I was seriously just considering stabbing this slut in front of me. Who am I kidding? I still want to.
That’s probably not sane.
Victor leads me to the helicopter and I’m shocked to see there’s no pilot. Who the hell is supposed to drive this thing? “Who’s driving?” I ask dumbly.
He chuckles while loading me in with his strong hands that have picked me up by my waist. My lower muscles clench almost painfully.
“Me. Now sit still so I can strap you in.”
Does it make me less of a woman for allowing a complete stranger to restrain me and drive a helicopter? Well, if we’re all going to die one day…
He pulls a holster around me and secures it tightly around my waist.
Oh my god. Can he tell how turned on I am? My bathing suit top provides me no modestly and he has to see how hard my nipples are.
Shit.
He pulls the seat belt tight around my waist then turns those big brown eyes up to me. Our gaze is hot and all consuming. My last reasonable defense to not fall in stupid with this man has completely left.
Victor’s the first one to break our stare making me shiver from the missing heat of his gaze. When he looks at me it's like I’m feeling the sun on my body for the first time. “I think I like strapping you
in.”
His husky voice does some crazy things to my lady bits. “I think I like you strapping me in, too.”
Victor
The woman is beyond sexy with her dress on and the natural glow from the sun. I don’t think there’s a minute where I don’t find her sexy and if there is, I would be surprised.
Our helicopter ride cost me about six grand but I’m not worried about it. Calista is well worth it. Everything about the woman draws me in.
She giggles loud enough for me to hear her over the headphones I’m wearing and the sound of the engine as I fly the helicopter to where we’re going next.
Sure, I could have kept everything at the resort but I want Calista to remember what it is like being treated like a lady. I have never felt this way before and it's almost scary. I have killed men before. I have stood in front of powerful men before.
But none of that has made me as nervous as I am right now.
Fuck me.
After flipping the switch on the control panel to start landing, I look over at Calista. She’s smiling so hard I can see her dimple on the side of her mouth.
With in minutes, we’ve landed and I go about shutting the helicopter down. My next plan should be here any minute and I don’t want them to be spooked by the loud helicopter.
We’re out of the helicopter within seconds and I’m handing the keys off to the man waiting for them. “Mr. Bruno. I trust everything was fine?”
I nod. “Thank you. We will be taking the helicopter back to the resort in a few hours. Please make sure it has passed all proper checks.”
The man nods and turns to follow my directions.
“Do people always do what you tell them to do?” Calista asks me with her sultry voice.
Smirking at her, I take her hand. “You want to cash in a question?”
She purses her lips. “Nah, I think I already know the answer to that question.”
“Follow me.”
Our conversation flows freely and easily while we walk towards the barn holding the horses I had reserved. I’m surprised Calista hasn’t picked up on her surprise yet. I’m not hiding it very well.
“Are you ready?” I ask her to taunt her. By the time we get to the barn, I’m about ready to tell her myself where we are.
Before she says anything, two stallions come prancing out of the barn with Olivia holding their reigns. The stallions are a mixture of different colors but their manes are both white. Each of them have a saddle on them for us to ride them.
“Are you ready, pussycat?” I ask her with my eyebrow arched.
“We’re going horseback riding?” Calista exclaims with a look of wonder on her face.
Shrugging, I fight the urge to ask her why she’s so cute but I decide against it. “Of course we are.”
Calista
When was the last time that I have felt free? So free I’m laughing at stupid things like the waves being high enough to hit my toes that are tucked into the stirrups of the horse. Or every time Victor looks at me, I can’t help but giggle.
The man is setting me up for heartbreak but I’m going to enjoy him while I have him.
We ride the horses through the crystal blue water and over to the sandy beach which was completely empty. Everywhere we went on the horses, there was no one to be seen. Almost as if he had planned it that way.
I’m not going to question it though. It's obvious he has money and I know he’s probably trying to show off for me but I don’t need him to. I’m attracted to him for his kindness.
And the fact the man makes my heart beat faster and faster every time he calls me “pussycat.”
Feeling like I’m in some type of fairytale, I shake my head and look over at Victor who’s navigating his horse through the water. My horse follows behind his and I take a minute to worship his strong back. The man is built, that’s for sure, but it’s his back that has my mouth watering. We haven’t even kissed yet, but I’m hoping it's as amazing as this date.
If the man takes me horseback riding and gives me a helicopter ride on our first date, I wonder what he would do on our second. Or third.
I fight the feeling he’s using me to have sex even though it's a nagging thought which keeps popping into my mind. He can’t, right? That’s something Victor wouldn’t do…
Like you know him.
Fuck!
“Pussycat, are you doing all right back there?”
“I’m enjoying the view,” I blurt without even realizing it.
He chuckles and looks behind him catching me blatantly staring at his back. “The view of the water or the view of my back?”
Smirking at him trying to hide my embarrassment, I try to come up with something witty. “Full of yourself, huh?”
Damn it. Why do I even try to be something that I’m not?
My horse, Midnight, trots off on her own path leaving me no choice but to allow her to do it. Victor tells his horse to turn around making me the leader.
“Shit,” he mumbles loud enough for me to hear over the crashing waves and the horses trotting through the water.
Turning my head to look back at him, I see his eyes glued to my ass. “Are you checking out my ass or the horse’s?”
“Brat.”

I don’t know why but I’m nervous as fuck as I get back on the helicopter to go back to the resort. The past couple of hours has been utterly romantic and magical that I don’t want it to end.
I feel like one of those girls that everyone hates because their life is so wonderful.
Calista, it's only for the week. Stop it! Stop thinking it's something bigger than it is.
I can’t help it!
By the time the helicopter lands, I feel the urge to run and hide in my hotel room to tamper down my feelings for the man. I don’t know anything about Victor but there’s something here.
Victor goes about shutting off the helicopter and then sliding out to let me out. The door to my side opens with him standing in front of me with his arms open. Without even thinking twice, I jump out of the helicopter into his arms.
His arms wrap around my waist like an X and I latch onto his neck with my arms holding on to dear life. My feet are dangling making my flip flops fall off but I could care less.
Suspended off the ground, I throw caution to the wind. Aiming my face to his, I give him the opportunity to kiss me first. I’m dying to feel his lips on mine. To know what it feels like to be kissed by a gentleman.
It’s slow at first, the kiss, I mean. His lips rub against mine gently. My lips tingle at the sensation of his kiss. It was then I realized how dangerously close I was to falling in stupid with him.
Fuck falling. I’m all in.
Victor
She practically weighs nothing making it easy for me to carry her into the pavilion behind us at the helicopter pad. There’s shelter over it to protect us from the harsh sun but I want the privacy.
I’m not going to fuck her right now. I decided that the minute her eyes latched onto mine as she jumped into my arms from the helicopter. The look of pure trust, adoration, is enough for me to know to take it slow.
I still have her in my arms by the time I make it to the pavilion. Breaking the kiss for just a second for me to make sure I’m walking over to the picnic table, she takes a deep breath.
“Wow,” Calista breathes and holds onto my neck tighter.
My arms hold her body closer to mine like a band. “Yes, pussycat. Wow.”
She nuzzles closer to me as if she can’t get enough and that’s when I realize what I’ve been missing all along.
Her.
I’ve been missing the intimacy and the feeling of being with someone who wants to be with me because she has no idea who I am.
My dick thickens in my pants but I fight the urge to thrust up against her heat. No. I’m going to do this the way she should be treated. I’m going to romance her.
Gently, I usher her off my lap and she looks dazed. “Uh?” She questions.
I shake my head. “It’s okay, pussycat. Let’s get you back to the hotel.”
We walk hand in hand back to the resort without asking any personal questions. I can tell she’s eager to know why I cut our date early, but I’m not telling her shit. I want her to be surprised tonight.
“So, what’s a guy like you doing here in a couples’ resort?”
“A guy like me?” I question her back with my eyebrow raised. “Sounds like a personal question to me.”
