“Come on Kat, Amara isn’t going to hurt him, she’s just endlessly curious.” Meg tries to take Kat by the arm, but she flinches away. Kat frowns and leads Meg toward her bedroom, pointing out pieces of the littles art along the way.
“She better not,” Kat says as she walks away from Theo.
Theo and Amara head into the office and engage the privacy seals.
After a minute or so of staring at each other, Amara smiles. “How long have you known?”
“Since I was in your lab the first time, I could feel it.” Theo chuckles. “I know you mean me no harm, you didn’t mean him any either.”
Amara’s shoulders slump in relief, she wipes cold sweat from her brow. “Thank Him for that. I guess that should make our questions more interesting seeing as you already know I’m Arcanatrix. I guess I should explain what happened with your ancestor, how I made the biggest mistake of my life.
“I’ll explain how I ended up killing my best friend, the Great Golden Dragon, or as I knew him, Jinlong.”
Afterword:
This book was a work of love, you see I’ve always read novels. From my dad reading me the Redwall novels by Brian Jacques at ages 4-5, to me reading Magician by Raymond E. Feist in Elementary School (my dad has the original British printing, the cover is just gorgeous), to me finding my love of superhero novels in college. I always liked the movies about superheroes, but it wasn’t until I read Meta by Tom Reynolds that I realized that I wanted to tell my own story like this, for that I’ll always be grateful to him and his contemporaries like Drew Hayes with his Super Powereds series, which is just fantastic. Together, they made me realize that I didn’t have to be a professional author to write a novel, I just had to have an idea and a dream of putting that idea out into the world.
I toyed with writing a fantasy novel from the time I was 10, most of those attempts never got past the first five or so pages before I got discouraged and quit. In the end, it took a lot of time to get this novel to a point I was happy with, but I feel like my life is better just for having done it.
I really hope you enjoyed this novel; if you did, feel free to reach out to me on Twitter, @Curunir471 is my handle there. Most of my posts on there are regarding my avid tabletop RPG interests.
A final note: Remember, dreams have more power than you think.
