“We’re pregnant,” Stone announces, and I laugh. I fight the urge to remind him that I’m the pregnant one.

“Land sakes, Stone. She just popped one out. Don’t you think it would have been better to let her recover before knocking her up again.”

“I tried, Momma Georgie, but I happen to have a wife that I can’t resist,” Stone replies and I know he’s trying to sound serious, but he ruins it by laughing. I roll my eyes at him.

“Daddy is so silly,” I murmur to Georgia.

“Daddy is a randy lad who needs to be careful. Birthing a baby is hard work and you’ve barely healed from having my beautiful great granddaughter.”

“I promise I’ll make sure she’s okay,” Stone replies, much more serious.

“You two stop. What Stone is not telling you, grandmother, is that I begged him to give me another baby. I want little Georgia to have a sister or brother close to her own age. I want them grow up together and have each other to rely on, no matter what happens,” I confess.

“Sweetheart,” Stone says, walking over to sit beside me and pull me into him, comforting me. He bends down and kisses our daughter’s forehead gently and that helps to dispel the sadness—at least some of it.

“Jessa Renee, you know better. Your parents didn’t mean to leave you, but they made sure you had me.”

“You and Stone,” I murmur, casting my husband a gentle look.

He doesn’t say anything, but he does mouth the words, “I love you.”

My heart squeezes in my chest just like it always has when he gives me those words.

“Love you, too,” I reply, not quite as silently. My voice cracks with the wealth of emotion I’m feeling.

“My sweet granddaughter. That baby you’re holding is going to know nothing but good. I feel it in my bones,” Grandmother assures me and I instantly believe her, feeling better.

“Are you psychic now, Georgie?” Stone asks.

“Maybe I am,” she shrugs. “I do know that my son and his wife are smiling down from heaven happy that my granddaughter found happiness.”

“I think they are too,” I agree.

“You’re both dreaming. Most likely, Samuel would have beat the shit out of me for messing with his daughter.”

“Pfft. Be honest now, what is it you want most for Georgia?” Grandmother asks. I look at Stone and smile.

“A good man who will give her the world, just like her daddy gave me,” I respond before Stone gets a chance.

  “I love you, Sweetheart.”

“I love you, too, Stone. I always will.”

“And that right there is why my son would be happy as a pig in mud,” Grandmother says, standing up. “I’m going to take my great granddaughter and me and her are going to enjoy our evening nap.”

I carefully hand Georgia over to her namesake and smile as the two of them leave the room, my grandmother talking softly to my daughter all the way out of the room.

“She’s right you know,” I tell Stone.

  “What’s that, sweetheart?”

I turn to look at him, wanting him to see the truth on my face.

“My father would be completely happy that you and I are together.”

  “Jessa—”

“I know he would, Stone, because without you, I’d be miserable. You’ve stepped up and began taking care of me ever since that horrible day I thought my world ended and now…”

“Jessa, sweetheart,” Stone, says his voice raw.

“And now, you’ve given me a world I never knew imagined. I couldn’t live without you, Stone. I wouldn’t want to live. You and our daughter are everything to me. You always will be.”

“That’s it,” he growls, standing up and taking me into his arms.

“What are you doing,” I laugh.

“Taking my woman to bed for our afternoon nap,” he growls.

“But I’m not sleepy,” I murmur against his neck as I drag my teeth gently against the corded muscle there.

“That’s okay, sweetheart. You’re not going to sleep.”

I smile against his skin, but that’s nothing new.

I smile all the time now that I have Stone Greer as my lover, the father of my child, my husband and my best friend.

Who wouldn’t when they finally realize what they were born to become?

  A dragon tamer.
