The Sandcastle Murders

Thank you to all of those who read this book, or parts of this book, as it came to life. Your thoughts, ideas, smiles, confusion, questions, suggestions, and encouragement kept me plodding along.
I would most like to thank Heather Gray, a Twitter friend who turned out to be a real friend; a real-life writer – who also happens to be massively talented, supportive, encouraging, kind, smart, and not afraid to be honest. Her incredible editing skills are a force to be reckoned with, and my book is better for her.
Once again, I would like to thank Anthony O’Brien for his work on the cover of the book – that cover pushed me over the top. Anthony created the cover back in February this year - a year when more than anything we all needed something to look forward to. The cover inspired me through edits, and edits, and edits. Yes, a cover is definitely one of the most important parts of a book!
And to the love of my life, Stuart - who seems to actually believe that seeing me smile is his entire role in life - thank you. Thank you for spending this year with me, for making every good dream we have come true, and for enduring my flights of fancy with enthusiasm. You are a wonderful human being, and I couldn't have found a more perfect person to spend a year of quarantine with.
To those who read this book, thank-you for letting me introduce you to some of the weird and wonderful characters living in my head. I love them all, no matter how quirky. The book was fun to write. I hope you found it fun to read.
With Gratitude,
K.E. Warner
About The Author
K. E. Warner
K.E. Warner cut her reading and writing teeth on mystery books by the likes of Agatha Christie, Ruth Rendall, P.D. James, Sue Grafton, and more recently, Louise Penny, and Alan Bradley. Those writers, and the characters they created, lived in her head and heart through careers in banking, ghostwriting, and fundraising. They inspired every suspicious thought she had, and every mysterious word she wrote.
After writing stories for her own consumption for years, she began taking creative writing courses at the University of Toronto. When she moved from Toronto to Vancouver Island, writing became a way of exploring Vancouver Island and the unique and wonderful people and places that make up its beauty. The Stey Cove Mystery series grew out of the love she holds for Canada’s best-kept secret – Vancouver Island.
She has been published in the online literary journal Cabinet of Heed, and the 2019 VSS365 Anthology, a collection of stories created by the Twitter writing community. This year she entered the NYC Midnight 100-word story competition, succeeding in making it to the final round. The Sandcastle Murders is her second novel in The Stey Cove Mysteries series. A third book in the series will be published in 2022.
When she isn’t travelling (the best part of any country can be found in their bookstores), baking (still perfecting a decades-old chocolate chip cookie recipe), or playing in the ocean (nothing consoles the heart and soul like paddleboarding with sea creatures), she can be found playing word games with the inspiring and talented online community.
