Obsessed with my Professor (Class is in Session Book 4)

I raised an eyebrow at her.

  “You can’t teach her.”

Although I knew this to be true, it still hit me hard.

"She'll either have to drop the class with you, or you'll have to withdraw from teaching the session, which puts your other students and the department at an inconvenience." My face fell. Both options seemed awful. "Or I can transfer her to one of my classes. I can make room for one more."

  I smiled at her. “Really?”

  “Yes, for you, Neil, anything.”

"Thank you, Anna!" I said, reaching out for a hug.

“Yeah, yeah.” She rolled her eyes but accepted the hug. “For all this trouble, you’d better be serious about this girl.”

  “I am,” I insisted. “I really am.”

“Hm, okay,” she said with a slight smile. “Then what are you still doing here?”

I immediately stood up and looked toward the venue. I glanced back at Anna before heading back in and scanning the crowd for Leyla. She wasn't here anymore. I started thinking about how I reacted at the moment. She probably thought I was mad at her.

“I think I’m going to head out,” I told Quinn.

  “So soon?” he asked.

I nodded. “I’ll see you on Monday.”

  “Alright, drive safe!”

Fifteen minutes later, I found myself back at my apartment. I sighed as I fell into the comforter, glancing at my phone to see a few email notifications. I shut it off and set it to the side. School was the last thing I needed in my head.

I thought back to how it felt to kiss Leyla and the way she moaned my name. It was almost like I could smell the vanilla. My eyes darted to my phone again. It wasn’t like I was doing anything else. My idle fingers eagerly zoomed across my phone and made its way from my social media to the email app.

  Morris, Leyla.

This caught my attention. I scanned the email, pausing as I chuckled about her comment about her car then stared at the number at the end of it. It was a little late to be calling, but still, I wanted to hear her voice.

“Hello?” she said in a groggy voice.

“Hey, it’s Neil. Erm, Professor Jamison.”

She shot out a laugh. “Whatever.”

A silence fell on top of us.

  “I’m sorry, Neil.”

“Stop apologizing. You did nothing wrong.”

“It just feels like I messed things up for you. Did I?”

  "No, you didn't. I'm still a Professor."

“Oh, thank God,” she said in a breath.

I laughed softly, then paused as I stared up at the ceiling. "Leyla?"

  “Hm?”

  “I don’t.”

  “What?”

“You asked in your email if I regretted what we did. I don’t.”

“Good,” she said. “Because we’re going to do it again.” I let out another laugh. “And again. And again. And again. You get it.”

I nodded. “Yeah. That works for me.”

I could tell she was smiling. Her energy radiated to me and made me feel light. I never planned on falling for any student, but the best things never were planned, after all.

  “Leyla?”

  “Hm?”

She sounded like she was about to fall asleep.

“I’m falling in love with you,” I confessed.

“Not crazy in love, though, right?"

  “No. Like sanely in love.”

“Mutually in love,” she completed. “I love you, Neil.”

A smile pulled at my lips. I wished I could say it to her face a million times, but I settled with telling her on the phone, late at night, with champagne coursing through me and fatigue weighing me down. “I love you, too.”

  Epilogue

  Leyla

Pop! The cork flew off, and mist escaped from the bottle of champagne, making my success feel even more real. I watched as it got poured into my glass. The bubbles excited me almost as much as my new house, but not as much as my new husband.

I turned to see Neil standing before me with a bright smile. He pulled me into him and kissed me softly. “I’m so proud of you, baby,” he said, reminding me of my recent graduation. “You never cease to amaze me.”

"Pass the alcohol! I'm dying over here." Casey's voice reminded me of the other guests gathered in our living room. I turned to see her dangling an empty glass beside Anna and Oliver, close friends of ours now. Friends from school, along with my parents and Neil's, sat nearby.

I moved over to her with the bottle and filled them all up.

“Congratulations to my best friend!” Casey exclaimed, drawing out a laugh from me.

  “Thank you,” I said.

I raised my glass in my center of the crowd. "I couldn't have done it without the most important person in my life. Neil. I love you so much. You motivate me, and you keep me sane." I smiled at him from across the room, taking him in.

I love you, too, he mouthed.

Now, let’s wrap this up because I want some celebratory dick and I can’t get that while you guys are still here, I wanted to say, but instead I said, “Cheers!”

  “Cheers!” they all chimed in.

Neil walked up to me and took me into him, pecking me on the lips. "I can't wait, either."

  My eyes widened.

“Come on. I know you, Leyla.” He shot me a crooked smile. “I promise I’ll take care of you after this is all over.” I beamed at him. He always knew the right thing to say.

  “Say less, professor.”

He laughed and held me close, the real celebration going off in my heart.
