“Too long. I’ve missed you.” I pull her closer and nuzzle her neck. Her giggles tickle up my spine and wrap around my heart. The nervousness I felt earlier has dissipated. All that matters is right here and now. “You look stunning today.”
“You’re not so bad yourself,” she giggles again then stretches her neck, giving me wider access to her porcelain skin. “Gabe and Nicole are leaving soon. We should get back to see them off.”
“They won’t leave without saying goodbye.” I nibble along her jaw until my lips are close to hers. I gently kiss her lips and rest my forehead to hers. “There’s something I want to say first.”
Her eyes flutter open. Her long lashes feather across mine.
“The last year has been the best year of my life. I never thought I wanted or needed anyone in my life until I met you.” She sucks in a breath. “I love the way you touch me like no one else can. I love your passion and honesty, your witty banter, and the way you drive my heart wild. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I love you Nicole.”
“I love you, too.” Her voice is merely a whisper.
I slip the ring from my pocket and kneel on one knee.
“Will you marry me, Nicole?”
She nods enthusiastically while covering her trembling lips with her fingertips. I take the champagne flute from her hand and slip the ring on her finger then rise to meet her face to face.
“Say yes.”
“Yes.”
She lights up my world with one single word. Then I quickly kiss her, hoping she’ll never stop saying yes to the life ahead of us.
