by Jacqueline Hakitten

"Sir?" I tried to call him but nothing, his face blank. 'He talks to his wolf or I guess his wolf talks to him.' Maat chuckled. Now I understood why she was always teasing me with the mental house. It was really funny to see someone who speaks to his wolf.

"Are you alright sir?" I asked the moment his icy blue eyes started glowing with the sparks again. "Yes, yes, I am fine. I was just lost in my thoughts." He replied back and his cuteness was unbearable. Can I even say about the man that he is cute? I wasn't sure but I didn't care.

'Did he introduce himself?' I asked Maat. I guess I missed his name. 'Calen.' She replied instantly.

'Calen.' I repeated for myself and his name sounded like music to me.

"So, mister Calen." I wanted to say something but he interrupted me. "Just Calen please." She corrected me.

I could help myself and smile at him.

"So, Calen. Are you staying in town?" I asked but instantly slapped myself for the stupid question. Of course, he is staging in town. They are moving their whole pack here. I wish to disappear or maybe lose consciousness or actually whatever I could blame my stupidity on it. 'Just relax. He would not bite you, eat you, at least not right now.' Maat commented which left me speechless. What was that supposed to mean I had no idea.

"Yes." He replied chuckling on my silly question. Sure, he knows that I actually know about his pack.

"We bought the land nearby here to the North-east. We divided that this is a perfect place for us." He explained.

"Well, I hope you would not destroy our lovely woods," Rosie commented. I completely forgot that she is here with us.

I felt sad when he turned his gaze to Rosie so he could reply to her. "Of course not. We are trying to implement our cabins into the woods without putting down the trees if possible. Well, we needed to put some of them down but we are nature lovers so we like deep woods and hiking. Sadly, the place we were living till now was too close to the city and the highway was almost right beside our houses so we searched for a place away from civilization. Our community is actually very similar to your madam Rosie. We have just a little more people than her in the town but that's all." He was surprisingly very open given to the fact that I am rogue and Rosie a human and I found it very attractive. He was honest and I liked that.

The whole time he was talking my eyes didn't leave his mouth. 'You wanna kiss him that badly?' Maat asked me and my cheeks blushed as I realized that she was right.

"That's really great to know. I am glad you care about the woods." Rosie replied to him and his gaze returned to me. His piercing icy blue eyes were staring right into me and I felt the fire growing inside. What was happening to me? I didn't know.

"Actually, I know here from Madam Rosie that you are a very good herbalist and chemist, making your own cosmetics and medicine. I was curious that maybe you could visit us and show to our doctor some of your products. We prefer natural medicine so I am sure we could use your knowledge as well." He asked me and I was caught by surprise.

What should I say? I asked myself. 'Say yes. Hurry up.' Maat pushed me. "That would be great, thank you," I replied. 'Wait isn't it dangerous to go to his pack? What if there is someone who would recognize me or worse our enemies.' I asked Maat as the worries crossed my mind.

'Does he look dangerous to you?' She asked me and I shook my head mentally to her. 'Do you feel threatened by him?' She asked another one and I had to deny it again. I had no bad feelings from him at all. Honestly, I felt very safe in his presence and I had the feeling like I know him already for a very long time.

"So, it's settled. If you allow me, I could take you to our small village right now so you could see for yourself where it is and later you could visit us anytime." He said to me. "I would bring her back here Madam Rosie if you don't mind that I would borrow her for now." He meant it as a question but it sounded more like an announcement. Rosie winked at me and replied to him and approved. I looked at her back a little nervous and afraid but she shushed me with her hands encouraging me to go.

"Just go. I would be right here waiting for you and don't worry I would take care of your stuff. Just take some samples with you." She told me with a smile.

"Oh, that's a great idea." Calen agreed to give me a smile. When did I sign myself for this theater? I didn’t know but for some reason I felt like the main star.

I collected several samples for cosmetics and medicine and went with Calen to his big car. It was black and big but that was all I could say about that.

"I am sorry I waited to introduce myself to two weeks." He started to talk the moment we were alone in the car.

"I know this land is yours and I didn't want to intrude so I made sure no one would enter the area where your scent was." So, I was right. He didn't want to make me feel uncomfortable in my own home. That's actually nice and thoughtful of him.

"Thank you." Was everything I said as he left me almost speechless.

I saw his hands as he was holding the steering wheel. I could pay him as maybe more nervous than I was from how sweaty his hands were. It actually made me relax knowing that this situation is the same for him as for me.

"You were beside my cabin two weeks ago," I said suddenly. 'Maybe this time you should try to stay quiet.' Maat commented and for the first time, I agreed with her. I don't know what was wrong with my mouth today.

"About that I am sorry." Wait. Why is he apologizing?

"I should have followed you but when I came to town two weeks ago, I smelled your scent and it was strange." Ah, I guess he is talking about the herbs I used to mask my scent two weeks ago. "I was curious because I was told this land has no pack so I wanted to check to know you were a werewolf." He explained. He unconsciously bites his lips waiting for my reply.

"It's alright. I followed you the next day to find out your intention. And seeing you were respecting my area I let it be." Like hell I did. 'Like hell you did.' Maat repeated after me and I am sure she meant my stalking him.

"May I have a question?" He asked cautiously and nervously so I guessed what he wanted to ask about.

"You wanna know why I am here all alone." I finished for him and he nodded. I understand his concern. By his face and beard, I would guess him to be over twenty-five and for him I was too young to live alone in the woods.

"I guess this question would need to wait for now if you don't mind," I replied to him back, turning my gaze out from the window watching the trees as we were heading into his new land. My mind was fully occupied with the memories his question brought back to the surface.

  Chapter 9

  REI'S POV:

As we entered his land, I saw several guys standing around as security. Plenty of buildings were already finished including the pack house. I remember that in my pack we had the pack house similar to this one. Despite being completely new, they build it as an old hunting cabin except for the enormous size of the pack house. Let's say compared to the motel in the town this pack house looked like a luxurious hotel for several dozens of people. I was surprised when I saw how precisely they were building it to remove as least trees as possible. He didn't lie to Rosie about this at all. He stopped the car right in front of the pack house and I looked at him. He was looking back at me smiling.

"Welcome to our home." He said but scoffed and almost directly corrected himself. "I mean my home and my pack not like our in the meaning of mine and yours." I laugh seeing him quite cute and lost in his thoughts completely confused. Again, why am I even thinking about him being cute? What is wrong with me? I asked myself. But of course, I am never alone, am I? 'No, you would never be alone and I am sure I could name at least a dozen things that are wrong with you,' Like I did ask for her opinion which Maat gave me.

I don't know what got into her but since we were in the car, she was abnormally cheerful and happy. I could literally feel the happiness radiating from her like beams of light.

I did not say anything and he meanwhile got out of the car and was heading to my side as I struggled to open my
door. He opened it for me and held the hand for me to help me out of the car. My cheeks went red almost instantly and I felt the hot blood coming into them.

"Thank you. By the way, it is a really nice place and I see you are really fast with the building. I am impressed." I tried to sound as natural as possible but given to his expression I am sure I am red like a tomato. I am not sure it was a very good idea to come here. 'Maat, could you please hide me?' I asked her and she immediately obliged my request. The truth is I could use herbs to cover myself completely which meant no-one would recognize that I was a werewolf. I would be only a human who works with plants and herbs. But with Maat's protection, I could either disappear completely as there would be no smell at all or I could alter it, to hide in the middle of the woods full of animals. Sometimes her skills are unbelievable.

I knew Maat finished the moment he turned to me with the silent question in his eyes. 'Maat you removed my smell completely?' I asked her, confused. He shouldn't notice much difference since I was already using some flower perfume. 'No, I only made your perfume stronger so maybe he doesn't like that smell.' Maat commented and it actually made sense. Note for me not to use this perfume again.

"Thank you for the compliment on our land and our new home." He answered and I was glad he didn't comment on my smell. "We are trying as fast as possible, the summer just started but there are still many things to finish and we want to be sure everyone from our pack would have a warm place to stay during the winter. I assume winters here are cold and with plenty of snow." He said to me, turning and pointing now to the pack house in front of us. "This we build as first, it is possible to place everyone inside, but since we respect the privacy of our people, we want them to have their own homes." I could understand that. "You say we, about whom you are talking?" I asked curiously and he turned his gaze back to me. Oh, I could really stare into those eyes for the rest of my life. 'Focus.' I slapped myself mentally again. Why is it so damn distracting? I couldn’t focus on him.

'Relax sis, it is just overwhelming to finally talk to another wolf openly, well at least a little bit. Actually, it is nice to not talk about anything specific, like you know, he is a wolf.' Now was my turn to face palm myself as her mumbling was completely out of any sense. 'What are you talking about?' I asked her to make sure my voice sounds amused and teasingly.

'Nothing, nothing.' She severed the link between us and went to her quiet corner. "Wolf talk?" He asked me suddenly and I realized I just zoned in front of him. "Kind of," I replied back and felt my cheeks again. I hope I didn't have that usual black stupid face I normally have.

"Don't worry, we all have that here." He tried to comfort me and just from thinking that they are actually in the same situation here it felt like I was relaxing. Not completely since I was still in the possible enemy area but so far, I know they were not hostile towards any rogues. "And about your previous question, well, I might be the Alpha but there are elders I need to discuss important things about the clan with. So, I kind of got used to the fact that decisions like moving the whole pack were made by us and not just by me." He explained to me very detailed. I don't remember if we had the Elders back in my pack.

"Thank you for both answers," I said again and noticed a tall guy was slowly approaching us. He could be almost two meters tall, with dark chocolate hair and light brown eyes as he came closer. His cheekbones were sharply cut and I have to admit his body was well built. Not like Calen was any different but compared to this guy Calen was a little bit shorter.

"Good morning L... lady." If I would not know better, I would swear he wanted to say something else before he stopped himself and greeted me. "Good morning sir?" I answered with a question mark at the end.

"This is Zack, my beta." Calen introduced him and Zack held out the hand for a handshake. "Nice to meet you, I am Rei." I introduced myself.

"Any family names?" He asked and I shook my head thanks to Goddess he left it like that and didn't question me further.

"What brings you here today?" He gave me another question and I heard a quiet growl coming from Calen. Zack put his hands up in surrender and bowed to me before he turned away and started walking away.

"Nice meeting you Rei." It was the last thing I heard him say before he disappeared behind the pack house

"Let's go in. I would take you to our pack doctor." He told me and I nodded. I noticed that he already took my back from the car. I didn't even see him open the back door and take it out. Anyway, we were heading inside, and wow, just wow. I was left speechless when we entered the atrium of the pack house. It was really looking more like a hotel.

As we entered there was a hallway heading directly to the stairs that led up and down. From outside I already knew there were three floors but could not see how long the building was. To my right side, there was a huge living room with several sofas and huge television hanging on the wall. To the left side, there was a kitchen and I saw tables and beside them other tables with chairs. I could not see deeper into the rooms as there were the hallway walls on both sides but I assume the whole floor was only for those two rooms so the people could suit there altogether.

What actually surprised me was when we headed directly to the stairs but instead of up he wanted me to go down. I froze on a spot not completely sure if it was a good idea.

"Oh, I am sorry about that, I am sure it looks weird that I want to drag you underground of our pack house but believe there was no other way where we could exactly build our small hospital. So as you see this floor is dedicated to the social area and the dining room. Up we have hundreds of rooms in those two other floors same as the other half of this floor if you would continue behind the stairs. Down we have a hospital. It was safer that way." He tried to explain to me and calm me down when the panic appeared in my facial expression. I didn't sense any lies or bad intentions from his posture and body language and given his voice tone he was actually a little bit more than I was.

I nodded to him and he continued the stairs down. He was right the moment we were halfway down and the stairs turned. I saw a lot of lights and already rooms for examinations, beds, and the necessary electronics.

"How did you manage to build everything in such a short time?" I asked him curiously. Like seriously they came just two weeks ago and they already built a hotel?

"Honestly we didn't. The down floor is actually finished only partly, just the kitchen and the social area. From the rooms, just a few of them finished so the people here have the place to sleep. The upper two floors are still empty without painting or anything. The hospital here is also only half-finished." His melodic voice was singing for me and I found myself again lost just from listening to him.

The beautiful tall woman came to us. She had nice shoulder length hair. The hair went beautifully together with her emerald green eyes and she had cute freckles around her nose and cheeks. She was similar to Calen and fairy beautiful. I started to feel like a dwarf here with my one hundred sixty.

"Hello, Alpha." She greeted me. "Emily, this is Rei. Rei, this is Emily, our pack doctor." She said and I bowed slightly, showing my respect. "Nice to meet you." I offered her hand to shake and she accepted. "Nice to meet you too." She replied and turned her gaze back to her Alpha with the question in her eyes knowing that I am rogue. I know Maat didn't remove my rogue smell or my wolf smell that would be suspicious but she altered my smell as much as possible so even if anybody knew me or knew my scent, he would definitely not recognize me now.

"She is the girl I told you about earlier that lives in the woods. She brought you some medicine examples so you might check it and maybe we could establish some kind of cooperation since we are going to share this land." He said to her and she nodded. By the expression, I could understand they were mind linking each other.

"Oh great, may I see?" She turned her gaze back to me and suddenly a smile appeared on her face. Not sure what Calen told her but her face was way friendlier now.

We went into her office and took out all the exa
mples I had in my back. She took the first one opening a small sachet and looked at me surprised and shocked. "How old are you?" She asked me out of blue. "Ehm, seventeen?" I said asking since I was confused why she was asking me that.

She frowned and turned another sachet opening it and smelling the medicine inside. I know wolves have their senses heightened the same as me, or maybe with training even higher than are mine senses now so for sure, she could recognize the herbs inside in it.

"How did you manage to get the exact ratio of different herbs?" She gave me another one and started to feel like back at school when I was back in my pack. "Am I being tested or something?" I asked curiously and nervously.

"No. No, of course not." She said hectically back and I saw that Calen is mind linking her again.

"I am sorry it is just so surprising. This is for severe migraine." She lifted one sachet and handed it to Calen and he smelled it. "This one would fight infection if you put it on the wound or with the exact doses you could use it and anti-inflammation tea to drink." She lifted another one.
