“ Doesn’t that dude own it?”

“He’s found someplace else, and he’s leaving. I figure we might as well take it since I’ve aligned myself with him. I mean, that’s how allies are supposed to work. Soon and very soon we won’t need the Phoenix pack. And Niles you can forget about Gemma. It won’t ever happen.” Niles didn’t answer him.

“Are you finished?” He asked. Dell waved him off. Niles walked away angrily, but the other wolves still teased him by talking about Gemma.

“I wish she’d want one of us.”

“I just wanna taste those damn tits. I bet they taste like honey.”

“Fuck her tits. That pussy always smells so fucking juicy. Her mate is a lucky son of a bitch. He doesn’t even want her, much less deserve her.” Dell listened to his pack with a smile on his face. His mind was rampant with thoughts of a plan that would surely catch the pack off guard. This was the beginning of the end of the Phoenix Pack.

  Chapter Fifteen

Niles grunted angrily as he searched the cabinets on their side of the cave for something to eat. It was the morning after the full moon and the events of the night before were still rampant in his brain. He couldn’t get the sick feeling that Dell was up to no good out of his head. That plus Dell didn’t even come inside the cave once he delivered his message to them. As Niles stomped around angrily, he didn’t realize that Kellan was standing there until he bumped into the large man. Looking up at Kellan, Niles backed away. He had his arms crossed as he looked down menacingly at Niles.

  “Where’s your alpha?” He asked.

  “Who knows,” Niles shrugged.

“He don’t tell us shit anymore.” Kellan removed his dominance from vibrating around them and gazed at the young wolf.

“Seems like you got a lot on your mind.” Niles crossed his arms as well. He didn’t know what the right thing to do was, but he just knew he didn’t want to be part of a low down dirty pack.

“I need to talk to you,” he said to Kellan.

“I’m all ears.” Niles took a moment to fathom what he was about to do.

“Despite what you may think of me after this; I am loyal to my pack,” he stated. “I’m only telling you this because I feel like it’s my duty to be loyal to people who have shown loyalty to me.”

  “What’s your point?” Kellan asked.

“It’s Dell. I don’t know what the fuck he’s doing, but something is not right with that man. He’s not the alpha I made a vow to. He’s not the wolf I thought would keep me protected. At the time, I only vowed to him because he was the only dominant wolf I could have vowed to and I want to survive out in this world. But now he’s doing some fishy ass shit that don’t sit right with me, and I’m not going to go down with him. I’d fight with him to the death if his cause was just, but what I feel he’s doing, he’s doing it for himself only. It has nothing to do with me or the other wolves. I just don’t know what it is he really is up to.” Kellan gazed at him for a long while, and that made Niles nervous. What if all Kellan thought of him was that he was just some kind of snitch?

“Look, I’m not just snitching on my alpha to betray him I-” Kellan held up his hand to silence him.

“I don’t think you’re betraying anyone for the hell of it. I actually appreciate your honesty. Funny thing is that Mira expressed the same concerns when it came to Dell. She said she felt off about him and didn’t know exactly what he was doing, but it wasn’t good.” Niles knew that if he believed Mira, then he must have believed her.

“Kellan I’m not prepared to go down with him. He has aligned himself with this weird looking dude all for the sake of protection. He thinks the man can give us tools to protect ourselves, but I don’t trust him either. He hasn’t hurt our pack, but he was the one who tried to hurt your pack.”

“The attacker with no scent that Dell said he didn’t find in the woods?”

“Yes. He found him. I was forced to lie about it because he’s my alpha. But now, my wolf has other ideas about who we should show allegiance to.”

“Niles, I’m going to kill your alpha,” Kellan said. He said it in a way that was so nonchalant it struck fear in Niles’ heart. If you could confess to wanting to kill someone with that much ease, then you were dangerous. And Kellan was very dangerous.

“As long as I don’t end up dead for that bastard then I’m fine,” Niles replied. Kellan had said that about Dell for two reasons. One he was going to kill the son of a bitch. Two, because he wanted to see the reaction, Niles was going to have. If anyone proclaimed to wanting to kill Kellan to any wolf in the Phoenix Pack, they were going to be attacked. Because they still believed in their vows and pledged their allegiance to Kellan, no one should be able to make a threat against him. The fact that he made a threat to Dell in front of Niles and he didn’t seek to react to protect his alpha meant surely that Niles’ wolf did not see Dell as their alpha any longer.

“What about the other wolves?” Kellan asked.

“They seemed more inclined to follow his bullshit. Hell, I don’t trust them either.”

“Thanks for the information. You are welcomed on our side of the cave to keep yourself protected until I figure out how to deal with Dell.”

“Thank you Kellan,” Niles bowed his head in respect. Niles followed Kellan to the other side of the cave. Everyone was having breakfast, but no one seemed to question why Niles was with Kellan. Either Kellan told them in mind speak or they just didn’t question their alpha.

“Sit,” Kellan told him pointing to the table. Niles immediately went for the empty chair next to Gemma, but by default, he was sitting directly across from Tristan who was glaring at him, and rightfully so, because Niles could smell Tristan all over Gemma. They weren’t completely mated, but his scent was wrapped all around her.

“She’s still my friend you know,” Niles spoke up.

“I know,” Tristan shrugged casually. He looked away from Niles to Gemma who was scolding him in his head to leave the kid alone. Tristan was inclined to listen to his mate, so he didn’t say anything else to Niles. Instead, he looked at Gemma his eyes grazing across the low plunging line of her top. Since he’d been in her body, all he could think about was being in her body again. She was so delicate; he wanted to have her under him again with his dick filling up her body.

Gemma looked at him sharply, her cheeks tinted in blush. Tristan smelled her arousal immediately.

“Stop it!” She scolded him throwing a blueberry at him.

“You stop it!” He said. “I don’t want anyone else smelling that.”

“You’re the one putting things in my head you know.”

“Well, I-” the excuse fell from his lips when he realized he was indeed the one getting her riled up.

“Sorry,” he smiled. The rest of the pack was looking at them, smirking.

“Ya’ll are such lovebirds,” Rita swooned.

“Who’s the lovebirds?” The sound of Mira’s voice was a shock to them all, everyone turned and looked. She was standing at the entrance of the dining room her normal strong self. Shifting had restored her strength, and she looked amazing. Rita stood and greeted her first since she was the one Mira had saved in the first place. The rest of the pack followed, greeting and hugging Mira.

“Where’s Jaxson?” Mira whispered in Tristan’s ear when he hugged her. Gemma growled at the both of them and yanked Tristan from her arms. Tristan rubbed the nape of her neck and kissed her cheek.

“It’s okay my Gem.” Mira held her hands up and backed away realizing she was too close to a wolf that had a mate.

“Whoa, didn’t know you were such a wildcat,” Mira commented.

“I can be much more than that if you don’t give him some space.”

  “Roger that,” Mira said.

“And I don’t know where Jaxson is,” Tristan told her.

“Jaxson is in my office like me, Jayce, and Zander are about to be. Tristan, stay with Bliss. Niles, come here too,” Kellan said. By the look on
his face, it didn’t look like he was going to be talking about anything too good.

While they walked off, Mira sat around the table to eat. She and Kyra looked at each other uncomfortably. Kyra tried to smile at Mira, but Mira didn’t return the favor. No one knew what was going on with that, but at the same time, no one asked.

“I’ll be right back,” Bliss said suddenly. She stood and was hurrying off to her bedroom, and Tristan immediately followed her. She ran into the bedroom and to the toilet where she fell on her knees and began vomiting. Tristan went into the bathroom to hold her hair back and pat her on the back to help her. When she was finished, she slumped down. Tristan helped her stand while flushing the toilet. Bliss leaned against the sink, brushed her teeth and washed her mouth. Afterwards, she sighed and dried her face on a towel.

“This pup is very vocal about what it likes and doesn’t like,” she sighed.

“They usually are,” Tristan replied. Bliss looked at him amazed that he was still holding up his vow of protection despite how he was upset with her.

  “Look I know you said-”

“It’s okay Bliss. I forgive you.”

“You do?!” she asked. He smiled.

“Yeah, I do. It’s hard to keep a grudge when things turned out for the better anyway. Me and Gemma talked intently about where our relationship is going, and it’s in a good place right now.”

“Well I think you did more than talk,” Bliss giggled. Tristan rolled his eyes but couldn’t help laughing.

“It wasn’t even supposed to happen like that, but I don’t know it just took me over.”

“Love does that,” Bliss said. Tristan took her hand and led her out of the bathroom. They walked hand in hand like besties back to the dining room where the pack was still eating. Since it was only the she-wolves around, Tristan hung back to give them time to themselves but also keep a close eye on Bliss. He also couldn’t help when his eyes started to wander from time to time.

“Look, he’s staring again,” Gemma whispered to the women. They each turned around and indeed, Tristan was staring at Gemma.

“What?!” He exclaimed realizing he got caught staring. The women only laughed at him and turned away.

“You never really told us how the sex was,” Kyra whispered.

“I can still hear you!” Tristan called out.

“So stay over there. Come on ladies.” Bliss led them to the living room while Tristan stayed in the kitchen. They gathered around Gemma waiting to hear what she had to say. She didn’t want to delve too deep into the details, but she had to express how amazing it was to finally share that connection to her mate.

“I must say though that he did all the work. Next time around I need to be confident enough to drive him out of his mind.”

“Girl you better get confident. You can do it. You got the skills, and even if you don’t he wouldn’t care,” Kyra said.

“Your wolf is tenacious Gemma. Even if you’re a little shy, your wolf ain’t. Use her power.”

“When are the two of you going to complete the bond?” Bliss asked.

“I’m not sure,” Gemma sighed. “Hopefully soon.”

“Just make sure you’re prepared. It can be really intense,” Rita told her.

“I know,” Gemma nodded. “But I can’t wait.” As soon as she said that Tristan came into the living room. He smiled at her before he was joined by the rest of the male wolves.

“Owen is paying us a visit,” Kellan announced. “I trust him enough to enter the cave since he’s been friends with my father for years. Plus, I’ve committed to being his ally. He says he has some information for us.” Kellan scooped up Bliss and kissed her all over the face before kissing her stomach.

“But you missy; I want you in our room before he comes.”

  “Why?” She whined.

“Because you’re going to get defensive around him. He’s not just another wolf he’s an alpha. And I don’t want you worrying about that sweetie.” He kissed her again.

“I need to worry about it Kellan. Pregnant or not you know I still have to be kept in the loop. And I wanna know what he’s here to tell us.”

“Not if that loop upsets your wolf enough to make her want to come out.”

“Well, we don’t have to worry about that. I’ve got my secret weapon.” Bliss smiled at Gemma. Mira who’d missed a lot didn’t know what they were talking about.

  “Wait, what happened?”

“Bliss almost shifted and lost the pup, but Gemma was there to help. She’s the only one that manages to keep Bliss calm even if she’s on the verge of shifting,” Kellan informed her.

“I wonder why though?” Bliss asked. “I mean how come you’re able to do it and no one else is? I’m usually able to control her once Kellan helps me.”

“I’m not sure,” Gemma shrugged. “Maybe I’m just a good singer.”

“I don’t think so,” Mira said. She waved at Gemma’s body. “I can see your aura.”

  “And?”

“It’s the purest I’ve ever seen. When it comes to living beings on the earth, innocence is a fleeting quality. What is it that we deem innocent no matter the gender, race, human, or animal?” Everyone looked at her not knowing what the hell she was talking about.

“Babies!” She exclaimed. “Babies are the most innocent creatures on this earth, whether they are human or not. Once you grow up, that innocence is tainted somehow. You may still be a good person but doesn’t necessarily mean you’re innocent. Gemma your innocence is not tainted. I’ve never seen that before. It’s probably why Bliss’s wolf calms down around you, your innocence.”

Now all eyes went to Gemma. She smiled but put her head down feeling embarrassed. Sure maybe she was innocent, but she didn’t want that to make her seem like she was still some sort of baby. Plus, if she was so innocent, why the hell was her wolf so damn mean?

“I don’t think I’m all that innocent,” she spoke up.

“Gemma I can see your aura,” Mira replied clearly not believing her. Gemma rolled her eyes and shook her head. She looked at Tristan who was gazing at her.

I’m not a baby, she said to him.

  I know that my Gem.

And just cause she says I’m innocent don’t mean that I’m fragile or delicate you know.

Relax Gemma. Nothing changes between us. Those thoughts I had of you before don’t matter. You were woman enough to take me within your body. That’s what matters.

Gemma breathed a sigh of relief and looked away from him. She felt Niles staring at her, and when she looked at him, he smiled brightly at her; clearly happy that things had happened for the better regarding Tristan.

“So are you going to let me stay out?” Bliss asked.

“Owen’s here,” Jaxson spoke up. He began walking towards the tunnels to go and let Owen into the caves.

“You can stay; but the minute you get too agitated I’m taking you away,” Kellan gave in. Bliss smiled at kissed him. Tristan snickered.

“Damn, she’s got you woven around her little finger,” Tristan teased.

“I know you of all people ain’t talking,” Kellan scoffed. Tristan was ready for the comeback when the scent of Owen traveled to his nose. He was temporarily frozen when he realized Owen wasn’t alone. And the scent that came with him; Tristan knew it immediately. He looked at Kellan who also wore the same shocked expression on his face. Tristan swallowed hard as Chloe entered the cave alongside Owen. Even though Kellan was surprised, he still took Bliss over to Owen to introduce them and be respectful. Chloe spotted Tristan immediately. She smiled at him, blushing like the first day they met.

“I hope you don’t mind that I brought her,” Owen said. “She may be alpha female and I need her to get used to these kinds of things.” Owen looked at Tristan.

“No hard feelings right?” Owen asked.

“Why would there be any hard feelings?” Tristan asked with a shrug of his shoulders. Gemma sensed the change in her mate and she didn’t understand
it. She did however understand that whoever the tall, elegant wolf was that entered their cave was looking at her mate like he was some sort of snack.

“Don’t listen to Owen,” Chloe interjected. “I told him I might accept his offer to be alpha female but I haven’t gotten over you yet Tristan.”

“Well I don’t know what to-” In a rush of movement, Chloe charged at Tristan. She swung her arms over his shoulders and kissed him on the lips. The collective gasp in the cave filled his ears. Tristan pushed her off hard. He looked immediately at Gemma. Her eyes were glowing and her face was contorting, changing in and out of her wolf form as if she was trying to keep hold of her wolf. But eventually her wolf won out. Gemma flicked out her claws and screamed; running head on towards Chloe. Tristan grabbed ahold of her arm and yanked her back before she sliced Chloe up.

“Gem no,” Tristan warned her, speaking with a voice he knew her wolf would listen to. Gemma looked at him with her chest rising and falling rapidly and her mouth full of sharp teeth.

“It’s okay,” he said rubbing her neck then moving to her cheeks, continuing to console her.

“It means nothing to me I promise. Hear my truth,” he pressed her hands to his lips and kissed them.

Chloe took a long look at the young wolf who couldn’t even control her wolf yet. She saw the tender way Tristan spoke with her. Chloe took a deep breath. The young wolf smelled strongly of Tristan.

“Wait,” Chloe spoke up. “You mean to tell me that this young ass wolf is the one you left me for?! Are you fucking kidding me?!” Now calm because of Tristan’s words, Gemma looked at the she wolf. She was everything Gemma was not. Tall, exotic, and sensual.

“Tris-you and this woman were-are a thing?” Gemma asked.

“Were. We were a thing Gem. I ended it to be with you.”

“Which was a mistake on your behalf. She probably just hit puberty. What the hell are you planning on doing with her? Read bedtime stories? Does she even know how to please you sexually? Does she know that you like your balls suc-”

“HEY! That’s enough,” Tristan cut her off. He was trying to keep Gemma calm, but he realized if Chloe said anymore he would lose control of his wolf himself.
