He watched her as he turned the knob and pushed the door inward. The scent of baby powder drifted from inside. His heart beat a little faster as he entered his house. The lights were dimmed, and tiny battery powered candles were lined up from the door toward the hallway.
He glanced over his shoulder to Dani. She pressed her lips together and shrugged. “What is this?”
“I think Shay broke into our house. She’s been a decorating mood lately.”
He rolled his eyes. They didn’t lock their doors. They didn’t need to inside the den. Studying the line of lights, he noticed there was a gap every few feet. In that gap was a white piece of paper. Interesting. Dani had set Shay up to do something. Had this been what Dani was keeping from him? Sneaking behind his back to surprise him with something…
He whirled around. Anticipation flared from within. “What is this?” he asked again.
Dani shook her head. “Just follow it. Don’t ruin the surprise.”
He let out a growl but turned to look at the first paper. It had a single word on it. Follow.

He picked up his steps, reading each note that led to their bedroom.

Surprise.
When he entered the bedroom he saw a box wrapped in pink and blue paper. Another note laid on top.
Congrats. It’s a…
His insides rattled with a mix of emotions. He had an idea what the surprise was. If he was wrong, he’d be disappointed. Glancing back at his mate, he slowly faced her. She wrung her hands in front of her and stared at the box.
When she lifted her gaze to his, her eyes flashed a little brighter, indicating her leopard was watching him from within. His heart beat faster. “Are you?”
She nodded. He lunged for her, wrapping her in his arms and picking her up off the ground. Happiness danced in his soul. Dani wrapped her legs around him and buried her nose into his neck. “I was so worried you’d changed your mind.”
“What? No way. Why would you think that?” He kissed her shoulder and held her to him. “I can’t even begin to express what I’m feeling.”
Dani lifted her head. “I can feel it through our bond. But you’ve been dreaming and seemed to distance yourself. I thought…I was being insecure.”
He hugged her again and buried his nose into her neck. “I’m sorry. I thought I pushed you into this when you weren’t ready. Graham said I was reading too much into it. That my empathy was picking up your fears and my insecurities. Leave it up to my brother to talk sense into me.”
She sagged into him. “We really need to talk more.”
“Yes. And I’ll do better.” He lifted his head. “How are you feeling?”
“I feel great. Better now that we talked.” She kissed him, then spoke against his lips. “Open the box.”
“What’s in it?” He lowered her to her feet.
“I don’t know.” She sat on the bed, picked up the box, and handed it to him. “Whatever it is, it tells us the gender of the baby.”
He glanced at the box then back at Dani. “Do you know?”
She shook her head. “I want to. But if you want to wait, I’ll open the box later and not tell you.”
A chuckle escaped him, and he tore open the box. Inside was a pink blanket with little white cats on it. His vision blurred, and his nose tingled. Dani stood and glanced inside.
Setting the box back on the bed, Nevan claimed his mate’s lips in a sensual kiss, then dropped to his knees. He lifted her sheet and kissed her belly. “I can’t wait to meet you.”
“We have to think of names. I was thinking of using Sara as a middle name.”
He lifted his gaze up, his heart swelling with love for his mate. “Mom will cry when we tell her that. What was your mom’s name?”
Dani’s eyes watered. “Grace.”
He stood and hugged her. “How about Sara Grace.”
She threw her arms around him and sniffed. “I love that.”
“I love you. My mate and the mother of our daughter.”
Her features brightened, and she smiled wide. “I love you too. My mate and father of our baby girl and all our future children.”
