A friend from church suggested her mother, Teresa Crumpton of Authorspark.org. Teresa did far more than edit. She encouraged me, volunteered help in formatting and answered endless dumb questions most authors already know the answers to from writer’s groups, classes or their own research. I was (and am) a babe in the woods regarding the book writing business, having devoted my life to other pursuits. I severely tested her patience with my ignorance and questions. There would have been no book without her help and time, large portions of which she gave without remuneration.
I try to pay attention when God puts people in my path. On a rainy day walking in Virginia while visiting my daughter, Lindsay Heider Diamond stopped her car to talk with me as I walked under my umbrella with my pack. She became my Cover Artist and brought her talent in Graphic Design – Illustration – Fine Art from www.lindsayheider.com.
Technology itself has been key to writing. Technology is great … when it works. I am grateful to my son, David, who tries to keep his mother’s computer working.
My son, David, and my daughter, Sara, along with their spouses and my grandchildren put up with my life being absorbed both with hiking and then the writing of this book. They all fill my life with joy and love. My friends too, have put up with my one track mind and focus.
Susan Alcorn, author of We’re In the Mountains, Not Over the Hill, and newly released Healing Miles: Gifts from the Caminos Norte and Primitivo gave her time to read the book and write a blurb for the back cover.
In spite of a conflict with her own canoe adventure, Julianne Baker, Naturalist/Guide Yellowstone Forever, Yellowstone National Park/Nature Journaler on Writing the Wild.com also found time to read my book and write a blurb for the back cover.
Many, many people encouraged me to write this book and even more sent notes on Facebook or wrote the old fashioned way or spoke to me in person to encourage me. Their encouragement daily made a difference.

About the Author
Mary has been a lot of places and done a lot of things. After all, she is 77 years old. Besides turning her hand to writing of her hiking adventures, this Triple Crowner has been in the Peace Corps, a Physical Therapist with a specialty in Pediatrics, an Army wife, a Pastor of a church for 16 years, a gardener and retired. She is the mother of two and grandmother of 10. (the outdoor grandma) In her spare time she preaches and plays the cornet.
