No matter how horrifying the court would prove to be, Ash had Voski. The prince’s aspiration for his mate proved true. They would be together. United against whatever Faerie threw their way.

Holding each other’s hands, they returned to Faerie three months later when only the barest curve began on Ash’s stomach. One slight and easily hidden by his clothes. Before the court - the ladies and gentlemen in all their fanciful attire and feigned cheer, Voski presented Ash to his mother and father.

Frowning down at them from her chair, Queen Teguhi sighed. “And what, pray tell, kept you so long?”

  Voski’s brows rose. “Mother?”

“Do you think it was an accident that your mate was the warlock whom I had found to take you in?” she asked, cocking her fair brow.

As the prince struggled between his desire to be true his emotions and the habit of doing whatever he could to please his mother, Ash stepped forward, glaring up at the throne. “Love takes time. Mates may find themselves bound, but I have seen how easily such weakly tethered bonds break. They’ve withered before my sight more than once, but ours - ours is stronger. Better for the time for the time we took.”

Here, the king chuckled. “Is that so? I had not heard of bonds breaking. You must have lived a rather exciting life! Come! We shall drink!”

“That will have to wait,” Voski cut in, offering a sincere smile to his mate in gratitude. “Father, he is with child.”

The whole of Faerie’s court erupted into joyous cheer and celebration. Even the stone-faced queen graced them with a soft smile. Her delicate hand rose, cutting off the jubilation.

“You are, I admit, far more talented at seeing and manipulating the strings of fate. The best I could foresee was when you two would meet, and five years hence was far too long to wait to bring such a gift as you to Faerie,” she proclaimed, and the king took his wife’s hand as the pair shared a smile.

“Here, here, my good wife. As you always, you are right,” the king said, pressing a kiss to the back of his wife’s hand.

Giving her husband an indulgent look, the queen informed her son and his mate, “You were foreseen to meet in five years at some musical gathering where your second cousin Taron’s mate will be performing with his ensemble.”

“Ensemble?” Ash murmured, looking to Voski.

The prince’s jaw dropped. Flushing, he avoided his mate’s gaze as he explained, “Taron is mated to Oliver Duval of London Frost.”

“Wait...Oliver Duval of London Frost? Renowned drummer - named sexiest man alive last year, Oliver Duval?” Ash pushed, and the prince grew redder as his mother giggled like a schoolgirl.

The queen fanned herself. “You would think the prince might have been suspicious when I introduced you when he would have been safer with a known warlock mated into our extended family!”

“You hate Oliver and Taron,” Voski pointed out.

With a shrug, his mother offered nothing confirming or denying his statement. “I hate to see wasted talent. All those children being raised in the mortal world.”

“Children? Oh my god!” Ash grabbed Voski’s arm. “I’m related to Oliver Duval! He’s like super secretive about his private life, and I now know he is mated with children! Oh fuck, he’s a warlock, isn’t he?” Voski barely had a chance to confirm before his mate let out a victorious shriek. “I can get pregnancy advice from Oliver Duval! He struck out on his own when he was young just like me! Did he leave the guild behind? Was he not a part of the guild?”

Smiling at his mate, the prince ignored the whole court and kissed his mate. “I’ll make sure you meet Oliver. Taron’s brother mentioned they were expecting their fourth soon.”

“I had hoped to avoid his influence by preventing your meeting at the event,” the queen informed them with a sour frown.

Ash could only laugh. “I’ve been a fan of London Frost since their indie days. You were not going to prevent me from meeting Oliver Duval.”

Leaving the queen to her court, the pair retired from the court. They strolled through the castle, making their way to the gardens where Voski once found solace. Where others had often exhausted him and often turned his sanctuary into just another tedious place where the Faerie court was constantly watching him, Ash fit perfectly with the peaceful warmth of the garden. Another wonderful pillar of support who offered him strength when everything became too much.

They wandered through the garden. The brilliant flowers bloomed bright beneath the glow of Faerie’s sky.

“I don’t think I’d ever get used to constant clouds,” Ash murmured, staring up at the glow.

  “The sun was wonderfully warm.”

The warlock nodded as he cuddled close, pulling his mate’s arm around his shoulders. “And no stars too, right?”

“We aren’t trapped here. Going back is as easy as side-stepping,” Voski assured his mate.

Wrapping his arms around the prince’s neck, Ash guided the fae to sway. A dance amongst the flowers as gold gazed into green. “Anywhere is fine as long as I’m with you.”

“I just don't want you to feel trapped,” the blond told his mate.

Ash smiled. “Believe me, when I want to take a holiday, I’ll make sure you know.”

  “Good.”

They kissed amongst the flowers, hopeful for the future which lay before them.

  Epilogue

Five years after the pair met, Voski climbed into bed beside his mate. “Happy anniversary, darling.”

They had celebrated calmly. Though there were no ends to those willing to watch their two sons, both Ash and Voski were protective, remembering the pressures of their own childhoods and not wanting their children to experience the same. A night in with the boys had been everything the pair wanted, and with the two settled in their beds, the husbands had enjoyed some time together before turning in to their own.

“Love you,” Ash whispered, pressing a kiss to the fae’s lips.

“Five years ago today, my mother introduced us, forcing us together over five years early,” the prince drawled, and the warlock laughed.

“I’d thank her more often if I didn’t think it would go to her head,” Ash joked.

Reaching into his bedside table, Voski took out a box. “Even if she hadn’t interfered, we would have met. Fate might not be kind to all, but it gave me you, and my mother’s impatience gave us five more years together and two wonderful sons.” He reached out, setting his hand on the curve of his husband’s pregnant belly. “Soon to be three.”

Ash laid his hand over his mate’s. “The best five years of my life.”

Holding out the box, Voski smiled. “It seemed wrong to let the date when we would have met come and go without recognition.”

Understanding sparked in the warlock’s eyes. Taking the box, he opened it to reveal the tickets for an upcoming London Frost performance in Los Angeles. The warlock cheered, tackling his husband. Stradling Voski’s lap, Ash grinned over the tickets as his mate’s hands explored the soft curve of their third child.

“I can’t believe it! You’re fucking amazing!” the warlock proclaimed, raining kisses down on his love’s face. A thought sparked, causing him to sit up. “Didn’t Taron just announce they were expecting again?”

Voski nodded, humming softly as he rocked up against his mate’s pert backside. “It’s early days for them. The tour will be over before Oliver’s showing.”

Setting the tickets aside, Ash sat up, reaching behind to align his mate’s cock with his dripping entrance. “Four tickets though…”

“Thought it about time for the boys to see the stars,” the prince murmured, groaning at the end as his mate sunk down onto his hard, throbbing member.

Starting slowly, Ash rose before dropping down. The wet heat of his body encased Voski, and as he bounced faster and faster, the fae caressed the soft curve of his gravid stomach, moaning in bliss as he and his mate made love.

Three days later, the pair stood in the crowd as London Frost played. T
heir eldest son, four-year-old Benji, sat on Voski’s shoulders with noise-cancelling headphones to cut the loud music. On Ash’s shoulders, their three-year-old Aleksandr waved his hands, screaming in excitement though he also wore headphones.

Voski leaned over, kissing his mate. “I love you,” he called above the roar of the music and the crowd.

Returning his lover’s kiss, Ash whispered, “Love you too,” against the fae’s lips.

Beneath the bright stars in the outdoor stage, they held hands, letting their fingers entwine as the music washed over them, reminding them of all fate had given them and all they had gotten that fate had once had the potential to deny.
