Ex Marks the Spot (Harlequin Next)

Andi couldn’t think of any spot more fitting for their celebration. They were both veterans, proud of their service, happy in the life that had come after.
Dave underscored that new life when he curled a knuckle under Andi’s chin and tipped her face to his.
“You didn’t last very long behind the counter, either, Madam Mayor.”
That was true! Andi still wasn’t quite sure how it had happened, but two months ago she’d made another right oblique and marched off in a direction she’d never anticipated.
“One term on the town council and the outgoing mayor talks me into running,” she muttered. “I can’t believe the fool citizens of Gulf Springs elected me.”
“The citizens of Gulf Springs know a good thing when they see it. So do I. You won my vote, Armstrong.”
“Thanks. I think.”
Her duties didn’t consume that much of her time. She still put in several hours a day at A Great Read. But Carol had taken over most of the daily operation, ably assisted by Karen.
To Andi’s relief, her sister had expressed only heart-felt joy that she and Dave had found each other again while Carol herself pressed ahead with a divorce. The shop had become her haven, just as it had Andi’s.
Dave, however, had found his own niche. As soon as word of his pending retirement leaked, Lockheed Martin asked him to head their Air Operations Center at Hurlburt.
Andi hadn’t been surprised by the offer. The giant aerospace contractor was lucky as hell to get someone with his qualifications. The salary, however, had made her eyes pop.
Best of all, Dave traveled rarely and then only in short bursts. Most of the time he was home.
“Are you sure you’re happy flying a desk?”
“I’m happy flying anything, Armstrong, as long as we do it in formation.”
She searched his eyes, seeing the love, feeling the joy, and stretched up on tiptoe to brush her mouth over his.
“Me, too, Armstrong.”
