I stared down at her. “Davina, you know if I stay here, I’m not sleeping on the couch, right?”
She leaned into me. “Yes, I know that.”
I got lost in her whiskey eyes. “Are you sure you want me to stay?”
She nodded slowly. “Yes, Trevor, I want you to stay with me tonight.”
I wrapped my arms around her waist and kissed her deeper than I had all night. She clung to me, and as much as I wanted to continue, I broke it off as rain began to fall on us, and thunder rumbled off in the distance. “Let’s go get Devon and get him settled, and then we are going to take this back up from right here.”
She gave me a shy smile and took my hand, glancing at the sky. When we knocked softly on Lucy’s door, she opened it with a sleepy baby in her arms. She glanced between the two of us. “My, what a beautiful couple you two make.”
“Thank you, Lucy,” Davina told her as I took Devon from her arms.
“He just finished eating, so I’m sure he will go right down for you.” I glanced at Davina, hoping that statement was true. I wasn’t going to be very patient tonight, not when I knew what was waiting for me.
“Thanks again, Lucy.”
“You are very welcome. I hope you two enjoyed the wedding.”
“We did.” I handed Devon off to Davina and collected his seat and diaper bag.
“Aren’t you going to put him in?” Lucy asked.
Davina and I shared a glance, and she replied before I could. “No, he’s going to be staying at my place tonight.”
“Ah,” Lucy smiled widely as she glanced between us. “You all have a wonderful evening.”
“Thanks again, Lucy,” I told her as we left. Lucy winked at me right before she closed the door, and I chuckled softly before catching up to Davina.
By the time we got to Davina’s place, Devon was already asleep. Were we that lucky?
I took her keys and opened her door, holding it so she could slip past. “Can you get the bassinet? It’s in the hall closet.”
I quickly found it and wheeled it out to the living room. Davina slipped Devon into the bed, and he fussed for all of two seconds.
She stared down at him as I came up behind her, wrapping my arms around her waist and kissing the back of her head. She put her hands over mine and sighed.
“You haven’t changed your mind, have you?”
Lightning flashed outside the living room window, and we both looked at it before the accompanying sound vibrated the room.
She turned in my arms, staring up at me. “No. Take me to bed, Trevor.”
Chapter 24 – Davina
There was no fighting destiny. All the signs led up to this moment, and with the storm over our heads, I wanted to believe that it was Carol’s way of saying this was right.
Trevor wasted no time lifting me in his arms and carrying me to my bedroom. His gaze never faltered from mine, and as he let my body slide slowly down his, his eyes smoldered. Trevor held my face between his palms and slowly bent to touch our mouths together. A crash of thunder echoed through the room, and the kiss deepened.
His arms wrapped around my body, and for a few moments, we stood there kissing intensely. I was to the point that I was about to beg him for more when his lips left my mouth and he began to scatter kisses over my face and down my neck. I whimpered at the warm touch, clinging to his arms to hold myself upright.
Trevor slid his thumbs under the straps of my dress, and more slowly than I cared for, shifted them until they slipped down my arms. His chest, which had pressed to mine, shifted back, and the dress lowered. His mouth followed, running straight down to the line between my cleavage. His hands shifted my dress, cupping my breasts, and I gasped at his touch, my head falling back as he peeled one cup back and latched on to my nipple.
I dropped my arms, and the dress continued to fall from my body. With a little shimmy and small tug, the dress landed in a pool at my feet. His hands caressed my body, wrapping around me to hold me tightly to him. The difference between my naked skin and his tuxedo was rather exciting as my core clenched with need.
I pushed his jacket from his shoulders, and he helped shrug out of it, letting it fall to the ground with my dress. His hands left my body, but not his mouth as he lavished kisses back up my neck, and he removed his bow tie. I was already working on the buttons of his shirt, and between the two of us, we made quick work of it. He pulled back only long enough to yank his t-shirt over his head.
My hands splayed over his wide chest, loving the heated feeling of his skin as I ran them down to his waistline. He helped me with his pants, and he toed off his shoes and kicked them to the side. His hands glided down to my hands, and he stepped back, holding my arms out to the sides so he could look at me from top to bottom.
“You are so fucking beautiful, Davina.” I felt no modesty as I stood there because I knew that what he said, he truly felt. His words caressed my heart, making it take that final shift from falling—to in love with him. “So. Fucking. Beautiful.”
He brought our bodies back together and began to kiss me urgently. His erection pushed against my stomach, begging for attention. My hands went to his hips, and I peeled down his boxers so that he could spring free. The silky touch of his hot skin against my stomach made me shiver as I realized how much I was looking forward to making love to him.
He walked me back to the bed, laying me down gently before he leaned down and removed his socks, then running his hands down my legs and taking my shoes off so slowly that I almost grew frustrated. He kissed each ankle, then each calf, slowly gliding his hands up my legs where he kissed my knees and then my thighs. My eyes closed, and his hands brushed over the tops of my thighs, his thumbs teasing the juncture ever so slightly before stopping at the edge of my panties.
“May I?” he whispered, and I nodded.
He removed them painstakingly slow and then once again kissed his way back up. My core clenched, eager for his touch, and this time as his thumbs skimmed the area, they shifted closer, and I gasped. My head lulled to the side, my eyes rolling back into my head as he leaned forward and kissed the inside edge of my thigh, pushing my legs apart and then running his tongue over my fevered flesh. I jerked in response as my nerve endings sent out sparks of pleasure through my body. He went back for more, my hands twisting in his hair as I held him there, needing more.
I’d never been greedy before, but with Trevor between my legs, and knowing that he wasn’t going anywhere tonight, I wanted to keep him in place as long as I could. My sex-deprived body screamed for release, and he was quick to deliver. The explosion was so extreme that I thought my own personal lightning bolt had honestly struck me.
As I recovered from it, Trevor slowly moved up my body, kissing my stomach, my ribs, lavishing my breasts again, and then returning to my face. He paused before he kissed me, a question in his eye, and I pulled his mouth to mine. I knew some women might not want to taste themselves on their lover’s lips, but it was part of the process. We were sharing bodies, sharing love; nothing was off limits.
Our tongues dueled as his body covered mine, the weight of his frame pressing me deeper into the mattress, making me feel cocooned and safe. Suddenly he lifted and shifted off of me, and my eyes burst open.
“Where—”
He grinned at me as he grabbed his pants and dug around in a pocket. I laid my head back on the bed, feeling like an idiot for not thinking about protection. God, it had been so long, and the fact that he had thought about it and I didn’t, just showed how long it had been for me.
He was back a moment later, and instead of sheathing himself, he brought our mouths back together for a long, drawn-out kiss. He got up on his knees between my legs, and I watched him roll the condom on with a practiced hand. My mind shifted, and I shoved the thought away of just how much practice he might have had.
He leaned over me, kneading my breasts hungrily as he suckled on them. My hands held his head to one and then the other, begging for more, begging for all of him. He lowered h
imself onto me, making me once again feel safe under his weight, and lined himself up to enter.
When he paused, my eyes opened, and I found him watching me. “Are you sure?”
“Yes, Trevor, I want you in me.” I whispered the words between us, and he shifted his hips, filling me slowly. I arched into him, taking him all the way in, loving the feel of him deep within me. He closed his eyes, tensed his body as thunder rumbled around the room, and I watched him as he tried to remain in control.
He began to move slowly while kissing me, touching everything that he could. I clung to him, memorizing the feel of his body as I ran my hands along his back, over his buttocks, and back up along his sides.
He went back to his knees after a few moments of the slow movement, and then hiked one of my legs over his arm, bringing us in closer contact as he reached between us and rubbed on my sensitive bundle of nerves. I moaned, tossing my head side to side as the feeling built again.
“Touch yourself,” he commanded as he lifted my other leg and put his arm under it to hold it up. I did as he asked, running my fingers over the slick skin as he pushed in deeper, harder.
“Jesus, you are so fucking hot.” He groaned as he looked down between us. His words only turned up the heat building between us, and I continued to pleasure myself as he pumped in and out. I paused, knowing that I wasn’t going to last much longer when he growled, “Don’t stop, Davina, I want to feel you explode around me.”
I whimpered as I continued, my gaze hazy as I looked at him through slit lids. His gaze jumped from where our bodies were joined to my chest and then my face. He reached up with his hands, bringing my knees further to my chest, and pinched a nipple, making me gasp with pleasure.
“That’s it, baby, that’s it.” His hips moved faster, harder, and sounds came from my throat that I didn’t know were possible as I began to ride the wave of ecstasy. He lowered my knees slightly, grinding his pelvis against me, then pulling out quickly. He pushed my hand out of the way, covering me with his hot mouth and flicking his tongue until I once again lost control, thrashing under him as I hit the crest and fell over.
I hadn’t even come back down before he was back on his knees and entering me again. The orgasm still rolling through me as he began to build me back up with his thumb. My body jerked as he carried me higher. My hands fisted the sheets beside me, and my chest arched up, my head pushing down into the pillow.
“Come with me, Davina, now.” He hissed, and my body reacted to his demand as I felt his body tense and jerk within mine.
His name fell from my lips, and I saw stars around me just as lightning cracked above our heads and thunder immediately exploded. My eyes flew open, and he stared at the charm on my chest before locking his gaze with mine. I reached for his face, and he lowered himself to me, still rolling his hips forward as our mouths once again touched.
We slowly stopped moving our bodies and released each other’s mouths as we paused to calm. Both of us were breathing heavy, and it took a moment for that to return to normal. Once we had, Trevor rolled his weight to the side, removing himself from my body. He pulled me toward him, so we were facing each other.
“Can I just say that was almost extreme.”
“Are you talking about the sex or the lightning?”
He smirked, and his gaze dropped to the necklace between us. “Kind of fitting that you are wearing a lightning bolt.”
I chuckled. “It’s Carol’s. I bought it for her. She loved thunderstorms, always wanted to sit back and watch them roll in and over.”
He smiled, but it was kind of sad. “Yeah, that I did know about her.”
“You did?”
He nodded. “She told me that on our weekend. There was a storm, and she made me sit by the window and watch it.”
“Hmm,” I murmured as I began to grow sleepy in the aftermath of pleasure.
He cupped my cheek, a frown line between his eyes. “Do you think it’s odd that the day we met, it was storming, and that tonight we have a major storm?”
My eyes popped open. “No. I’m surprised that you remembered it was storming the day we met.”
He chuckled huskily. “That is a day I will never forget, Davina.”
“Why?”
He touched my face, running a finger along my jawline, around my cheek, and over my nose before he locked eyes with me. “Because it’s the day that Devon came into my life.”
I smiled. “I’m glad that we found you.”
He cupped my cheek. “I am too, Davina. Because it’s not just Devon who came into my life, but you too. I’ll never forget that day.”
I blinked, not sure what to say.
“You seem surprised that I would say that.”
“Maybe I am,” I answered.
“Why?”
I found myself frowning. “Trevor, can I ask you a serious question?”
“Yes.”
“Why are we here?”
“Why are we here? Um, I thought it was so we could have sex.”
I rolled my eyes. “Yes, of course, for sex. I mean, why are we really here? Is this all it’s going to be, a weekend of romance? Did you just get caught up in the moment with the wedding and all? On Monday, will you be on to something else?”
He pulled my face closer to his. “You are so much more than a weekend of romance, Davina. You’re a lifetime.”
Chapter 25 – Trevor
She stared at me, her eyes flicking back and forth between mine, her lips parted in surprise. “What are you saying?”
What was I saying? Was I trying to admit to her that I was falling in love with her? That while we’d made love, she’d cracked open that last part of me that no one had ever had access to and now it lay wide open for her? Was I ready to even admit that to myself?
“I’m saying that this is more than a weekend, Davina.” Okay, I could admit that much, because I did mean that.
“It is?”
“Yeah, it is. Is that too hard to believe?”
She frowned. “Maybe.”
I laughed softly. “Why do you say that?”
She gave me a droll look. “Because you yourself admitted that you don’t get involved with people. That you go on a few dates, spend a weekend with them, and then move on.”
“Yes, I did say that.”
“What has changed? You’re still going to be traveling, so why would you suddenly want to be involved with someone?”
I sighed. “I have Devon now, Davina. Things are different.”
She popped up on her elbow. “Do you want to be with me so I can move into your house and take care of your son? Is that what this is?”
For a moment, I didn’t move. I was surprised that she would think so low of me. When I didn’t reply right away, she quickly twirled to the side of the bed and stood. I tried to grab her, but she was too far away. “Davina, that’s not what this is about.”
She glared back at me. “Oh, really? Do you want to know what I think? I think that you wanted to woo me into your bed and then try to get me to move into your house so that I could watch Devon. Then while I was living in the in-law suite, you’d tell me that things wouldn’t work out with us, and you’d go back to your old ways.”
“Davina—”
She held her hand up. “Then I’d be there taking care of my best friend’s child, while you ran around having your romantic weekends.”
I pursed my lips, frustrated with how quickly this all went to shit after one of the best nights of my life. “That is not even close.”
“Bullshit!” she hissed toward me and spun, disappearing into the bathroom.
I flopped back down on the bed. Jesus, I was trying to tell the woman that I wanted a future with her. I didn’t want to go back to my old ways. My life was different, and I wanted Devon and her in my life. Did I want to stop traveling? No, but that didn’t mean that for the first time in my life, I didn’t want someone home waiting for me to arrive.
I found a tissue on the side of the bed an
d discarded the condom before pulling on my boxers. The longer I waited, the more antsy I became. I was tempted to barge into the bathroom, but I didn’t think that would go over very well. Instead, I began to collect my clothing, laying the items in a pile on the bed.
I had just retrieved my last item when the bathroom door opened, and she stood there in a robe. Her hair was not quite its typical mess, but still on the wild side after our time in bed.
“Good, you’re getting dressed. I think you should go,” she said as she crossed her arms over her chest.
I walked toward her, noticing the necklace was no longer around her neck. “Davina, come on. I think we need to talk.”
“No, I think we are done. I’d like you to leave.”
I tried to reach for her, but she backstepped. “No, please leave, Trevor.”
I swiped my hands over my face, trying to think of something to say, but then suddenly, I wondered why I was even trying. Obviously, she thought so little of me that she wasn’t willing to hear me out or trust that my feelings for her were real.
“Fine, you want me to go. I’ll go.” I huffed as I turned around and shoved my legs into my pants, quickly fastening them before I grabbed the t-shirt and yanked it over my head. I pushed my arms through the sleeves of the tux shirt and then sat down to put on my socks and shoes. The entire time, she stood there staring at the floor in front of her.
“Davina, this is not how I wanted this night to go.”
She lifted her eyes to me momentarily before they shot off, and she began to blink. Was she trying not to cry?
When she didn’t reply, I collected my jacket and turned to her one last time. “Can we please talk? I don’t want to leave with things like this between us.”
Her gaze zapped to mine, and the voice that came out of her mouth wasn’t one I recognized. “There is nothing between us, Trevor. It was just sex. Thanks for that. I guess I now see why you do it so often, get off and then walk away.” She shrugged like it was no big deal.
“God damn you, Davina,” I snapped back as I took three steps to get right in front of her. “Don’t you dare talk down on what we just shared. That was more than a hookup, more than a one-night stand. You mean something to me.”
