The Unicorn's Dearest Omega

She was just a little bean back then. A cute, self-propelled bean with a tuft of hair and an admittedly very stinky diaper.

That was the story of our lives.

"Is that all really true?" Makayla asked. She had grown into exactly what I thought she would, a mighty Amazonian Alpha woman-- a few inches taller than Neil even. That didn't detract from her femininity, because she was a damn beautiful daughter. Nonshifters were intimidated by her, but everyone from the wolves to the cranes to the dragons wanted a piece of her. However, she had her own diminutive Omega girl by her side, sitting on her shoulder.

Here I am today, going on 44. Neil and I have been happily mated for almost 21 years. Jonathan's dust in the wind, and I still lay flowers at Jason's grave. Michael's grown up to become a lawyer of all things (I never would've expected that from him!), but he's one of those late Millennial lawyers who still has some attachment to his childhood in that he still keeps up with Pokémon and Harry Potter and a whole range of other things. And no, he didn't get back with Jessica from elementary school. He found a buff Alpha to call his own. Hey, maybe we can tell that story someday too!

To my daughter, however, I said, "Oh yeah. Actually, I downplayed a lot of things. Jonathan was a lot worse."

Makayla had a shock of blue hair in front of her eyes and the round facial expressions of a cat. She was listening to me, trying to get my story for her project on the rights of Omegas in the late 1990s. I had always told her about how much more nakedly insensitive things were back then.

Also, I actually had a head full of hair! Those were fun days indeed. But just like I said to myself all those years ago, it's time to move on and look forward to better days.

Neil, who just wants to get a few final words in, so pretty-please let him

When Makayla came to me to talk about the episode with Jonathan, I didn't embellish anything and laid it to her straight. Bringing up those memories was a bit hard for me because of how much Tommy and I loved each other. 21 years now, we've been going strong. Every day I wake up and look at him and think he's the most beautiful person on Earth. I'd do anything for him. And, when the sweetest fruit of those days wanted to know the history of why she was planted, I couldn't mince words.

  "And what of Artemis?"

Now that was a name I hadn't heard in a long time! "Ah, if I recall, she moved away a while ago. To England, I think.” It had been such a long time since I thought much about Artemis, even though she was always there in the back of my mind. It was kinda sad, what happened to her. The insanity of this town, so perfectly hidden behind its surface tranquility and vibrant nightlife, built up in her life. It started when some big fight happened between my Dad and a bunch of Grover punks in her shop not long after Tommy and I mated and got crazier from there. “But she's still doing well, though I haven't talked to her in years." So much happened in the past twenty years that it was addicting to reflect on it, but I couldn’t waste away in my thoughts forever.

Makayla looked past me to her two little brothers, and said, "Why didn't you want to move out of Brooks Creek with them?"

I smiled. "Because this is my home. I guess I'm just too stubborn to move."

She smiled at me too. "So there's nowhere else you'd rather be?"

"Nope. Not another place on this Earth."

Tommy and I kissed each other and all three of us ended the retrospective with a big hug. And when we broke, we all went to sip our cups of Tommy's pumpkin spice latte.

This was written way back in 2017 but never sold particularly well, and I’ve decided to drop off for a while. I decided to reuse several names from that book, so I wish to say it now: Brooks Creek and Nightfyre are not in the same universe!

Also, keep an eye out for the second installment of the Brooks Creek Omegas series! It should be coming very soon. We’ll be partying like it’s 1999 in Book 2: A New Millennium’s Omega
