“To sign up.”
“As?”
“A police officer.”
A wide smile slowly formed on her beautiful face. “But your job, your father…”
“That’s not what I want for the rest of my life.”
“But you’re good at what you do,” she protested.
“You don’t think I’ll make a good cop?” he asked, confused himself.
“No, I do. I…” She flung herself into his arms. “Adrian, will you marry me?”
He relished the feeling of her tight, luscious body against his. “That’s my line,” he murmured in her ear before licking her lobe.
She shivered as he pulled away and dropped onto one knee.
“I wanted to do this last night,” he said, reaching into his pocket and producing the ring box.
Keira’s eyes filled with tears.
“Well?” he asked.
“I asked you first!” she said. A tear slipped down her cheek.
“Yes.”
“Yes!”
It was a good thing the room had cleared out already because they celebrated their engagement in quickie fashion and then rushed to Adrian’s for round two, a much slower, more romantic dance of love and promise.
Chapter 6
Every werewolf in all of Hazel Park was here, a month later, for the wedding. Kiera wasn't nervous at all. Why would she be? She was alpha, and she was going to marry the werewolf of her dreams.
Instead of a white dress, she had opted for a copper-colored one with many layers and capped sleeves. The hue perfectly matched that of her wolf. Instead of a veil, she had woven flowers into her hair. The dress ended a few inches above her knee, and the sweetheart neckline was accented by a heart-shaped garnet necklace.
Pamela Harrington, her best friend, hummed the Wedding March. She had just gotten married to Mark two weeks ago. Unfortunately, that meant she had moved to Toledo, but of course, she had returned for Kiera’s wedding. She fiddled with Kiera’s curls and readjusted a flower.
“You look ravishing,” Pamela said. “Picture perfect.”
Unsurprisingly, Pamela had brought her camera along. Normally, she only snapped pics of crime scenes, but she took a couple of Kiera and then some of Kiera and Mr. Hawkins.
Kiera’s father had died years ago, and she had asked Adrian’s father to give her away. She had gone to see him the morning after they had proposed to each other, wanting to make sure he was all right with his son’s choices.
“Why do you think I allowed him to use up all of his days,” Mr. Hawkins had said gruffly. “I could see the writing on the wall. He’s gone over you, and you make him happy. His heart was never truly in banking anyhow. Yes, he thrived, but that’s Adrian. He does nothing half-ass, and you’re the same. You might get on each other’s nerves at times and butt heads, but you’ll work through it.”
“Thank you.” She had no doubt she and Adrian would get through everything, considering they already had lived through so much.
Her father-in-law grinned at Kiera. “There’s never been a more beautiful alpha.”
She flushed as Pamela moved into position to walk down the aisle first as matron of honor. “There haven’t been many female alphas.”
“Male, female, you’re still the most beautiful. I’m proud to call you my daughter.”
Kiera kissed his cheek, the music started, and Pamela walked down the aisle. Once Pamela reached the front, it was their turn. Every face was familiar, including Alexis and several of her girlfriends—Mandy, Claire, and Olivia. Kiera already knew Mandy a little, but getting to know Claire and Olivia had been a lot of fun. Alexis had wanted them all to hang out some before the wedding, and Kiera had enjoyed herself tremendously.
It wasn’t as if she had no friends herself. She had a fair amount on the force and outside it too, but the past five years had caused Kiera to pull away from them, too focused on doing all she could to keep werewolves and humans in Hazel Park safe.
Now, that was her full-time job.
The crowds of people standing on either side of her prevented her from seeing Adrian, but now, she was finally almost at the top, and she drew in a sharp inhale.
Adrian was wearing a white tux with a deep brown bowtie and vest that perfectly matched his wolf. His eyes glowed as he grinned at her, and she smiled back, drinking in his handsome form. She was surprised he had been able to find a tux that could contain all of his rippling muscles. He had an amazingly strong body and a heart of gold. She loved him with every fiber of her being.
Her father-in-law kissed her and gave her hands over to Adrian’s. Her almost husband leaned over and kissed her quickly.
“Not yet,” the minister admonished as the crowd chuckled and cheered.
When it came time for the vows, Keira went first. “I didn’t know what to think of you at first. I wasn’t in a good place then. Life here had changed so much after the death of Melvin. None of us were unaffected, but you, you morphed into a hero. You stepped up when it got hard. You made the tough choices. You succeeded. And you claimed my heart. I think that’s most important.”
Some laughs broke out from those gathered, and Adrian grinned then opened his mouth.
She shook her head. “I’m not finished yet.”
More laughter sounded.
“I love you, and we can help to rebuild Hazel Park, make it safe and happy for all.” Kiera winked. “Now, you can go.”
Adrian’s laugh rumbled in his broad chest. “Kiera, where do I begin? You give me strength. If I’m a hero, you’re a superhero. You amaze me constantly, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”
“That’s it?” she teased.
Grinning, he shrugged. “What can I say? I’m a man of few words.”
The minister lifted his hands. “By the power vested in me by the light of the moon, you may now kiss your mate, alpha Kiera.”
They had shared hundreds of kisses already, but this one blew them all away as the alpha kissed her werewolf love for the first time.
Chapter 7
The reception was off, and Adrian had just driven them to his place. No. To their place. Kiera would finishing moving in tomorrow. They wouldn’t be able to go away on vacation until things at Hazel Park settled, but Adrian had a feeling it wouldn’t be too long of a wait.
He parked, climbed out, raced around to open the door, and helped his bride out before sweeping her off her feet. She let out a shocked gasp and giggled, swatting his shoulder.
“You big brute,” she teased.
He growled. “I can be a brute if you want.”
“Please,” she murmured, looking up at him from under lowered lashes.
She looked so breathtaking there under the glimmering light of the moon that he wanted to take her right there, pinned against the car, but he refrained. There would be plenty of other time for that on other nights. Right now, she would be made love to in their bed.
With long strides, he marched over to their house and opened the door. He hadn’t bothered to lock it, knowing he would carry her over the threshold. A quick sniff told him no one had broken in, not that he thought anyone would break into the alpha’s house, especially not on her wedding night.
Easily, he carried her up the stairs and gently laid her on the bed. He kissed her, licked her, teased her as he removed her dress, her bra, and shudder at the realization that she wore no thong, no panties.
Whereas he was tender, Kiera was a little more insistent as she tugged and yanked off his clothes, and his erection popped out to say hi.
She stroked it, staring deeply into his eyes. “Take me,” she whimpered.
“But—”
“Now.”
He gripped her hips, guided her off the bed, and kissed her soundly. His cock rubbed against her flat stomach, and he eased a hand between them to touch her folds. She might not want foreplay, but he wanted to see how wet she was, and she was soaking.
A howl emitted as he turned her around and leaned
her over the bed as he rammed into her from behind.
She let out a shriek and cried out, “More!”
He pounded into her, fast and furious, slapping her ass, tilting her head back to kiss her deeply, giving all of himself into her. His hands wandered over her back, massaging her, and the next time he slapped her ass, she came, her walls squeezing him so tightly that he had no choice but to climax too.
Kiera wiggled her ass, shoving him back, and she maneuvered herself to turn around, still on the edge of the bed, him still standing. She shifted and rocked back and forth until she positioned herself just right and eased back onto him. Her strong, lean legs wrapped around him, pulling him closer, and he saw he entered her deeper than ever before.
Again, his hands wandered over her amazing body, paying special attention to her pert nipples and full breasts. When his fingers trickled down to play with her clit, she gripped the sheet, arched her back, and erupted with a loud howl.
Adrian had never felt happier or more satisfied than he did as he worked to make Kiera come again and again, whether she was riding him and squeezing his cock or he was giving her oral or any of the other six positions they went on to try that night. He was hers, and she was his forever and always.
